Vol. XI No VX Serving the Community Since 1903 October, 2016
Greeting my fellow Elks! Fall is officially here and football is in full swing and my team is already looking forward to a good draft pick next year. If you are a football fan, I hope your team is doing better than mine.
September was a pretty exciting month at the Lodge with the Queen of Hearts draw-ing every Friday night and the absolute fan-tastic Pig Roast that Ray Dameron, Chris Thomas and their crew spearheaded. The food was delicious, the band was great and
the beer was pretty darn good also. Additionally, we hosted the 2nd Annual Virginia Elks RV Rodeo and had about 22 visitors at the Lodge. They very much appreciated the hospitality that our Lodge showed them.
October looks to be just as exciting as September. We have the fall convention in Virginia Beach and the following week we have the annual Crab Feast. The Crab Feast will be held on the 8th of October and you can purchase your tickets from any Of-ficer, Trustee or at the bar. Hope to see you out there.
The lady Elks are doing a “Handbags for Hope” drive at the state convention and are looking for donations of new or slight-ly used handbags/purses to be donated with essential items that most ladies carry in their purse. Those items include, but not limited to chap stick, lotions, tissues, tooth brush, tooth paste and other toiletries. These handbags will be donated to less fortunate ladies who may not have a handbag to carry. Carol Baker is leading this effort for our Lodge so please pro-vide Carol or any of the other Officers or Trustee’s with items you would like to donate.
Friday nights have been going very well and we are trying to keep the momentum going. We are always open to suggestions and ideas of what you would like to see at the club. We are going to run a new Queen of Hearts game and simultaneously run a Crank it Up game which is a progressive pull tab game and the pot can get quite high rather quickly. Always looking for new people wanting to put their culinary skills on display so if you like to cook, please let me know and we can sign you up for a Friday night.
That’s all for this month. Until next month, take care of your-self and take care of your fellow Elks! Fraternally Yours, Tim Mead Exalted Ruler

Lodge 875 is in this year’s
Fredericksburg Annual Christmas Parade!
Our lodge has already registered to participate in the Fredericksburg Annual Christ-
mas Parade! This year’s theme is “The Sights and Sounds of Christmas”. This is will
be a highly visible event for our Lodge showing our willingness to support our commu-
nity. We have entered a truck and trailer that will be decorated in the parade theme.
Members riding in the truck and the trailer are a planned part of our entry. A large
Banner will precede our entry containing the Elks logo and our Lodge Number. Mem-
bers are needed to both decorate the Truck and Trailer and to be in the parade as rid-
ers! Please contact Bob Bennett (540-455-7599) to volunteer with the decorations and/
or to be a rider in this fun and exciting activity. All Riders will be asked to wear
Christmas themed attire. Our volunteers meeting will convene in October to talk de-
tails and identify tasks and due dates prior to the mandatory Fredericksburg Parade
Committee’s Meeting for all parade entry representatives in November.

ELKS FUNERAL RITUAL The Past Exalted Rulers, in an effort to honor our departed brothers and sisters, have formed a group of dedicated members to perform THE ELKS FUNERAL RITUAL at the visitation or funeral of a lost member.
Any family wishing to have this ritual performed for their loved one passing should contact PER Pete Decatur (540-273-7425) or PER Ray Dameron (540-760-1272). Timing is very important. As soon as the family decides these services are needed, please call.
FREDERICKSBURG ELKS PER ASSOCIATION
Members
Last month at our regular scheduled meeting on
12 September 2016, we initiated four new members. We
also welcomed a transfer to our Lodge from Florida. This
month we have 7 new candidates ready for initiation.
Keep up the great work bringing these great Americans
into the Elks Family and our Lodge. We still have much
work to do as our delinquents are at 6% of our member-
ship. The delinquent list is in this news bulletin. If you
are on this list, please consider paying your dues. If you need assistance paying your dues,
please contact me immediately. Mid-year notices were mailed last month along with an invoice
and envelope to facilitate members paying dues. You can also stop by the Lodge. I have your
2017 membership card waiting for you.
It is that time of the year we, as Elks, get busy with our Lodge Programs. Applications
for Most Valuable Student Scholarship are going online as we speak. For details and to
complete an application, visit enf.elks.org/mvs. Applications must be submitted online on or
before November 30, 2016. Additionally, college bound high school seniors who are children or
grandchildren of dues – paying Elks are welcomed to apply for the Elks National Foundation
Legacy Scholarship. These application must be submitted online on or before February 3,
2017. To obtain the online application, visit enf.elks.org/leg.
We are also warming up for the beginning of the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw
Contest for 2017. Watch for dates, times, and locations to be posted on the Lodge Bulletin
board soon.
Do a friend a favor and ask them to join the ELKS. As always, it is indeed a pleasure
and an honor to be your Lodge Secretary. Thank You!
Fraternally,
Diane M. Blesi

Notice Voting on Life Membership for Ronald E. Hall
In accordance with Sec 14.260, Elks Statutes Annotated, 2015, by an affirmative secret ballot of two-thirds of those present at a regular Lodge meeting, a Member in good standing may be elect-ed to a Life Membership when he has paid to a Lodge or Lodges required annual dues for a period of not less than thirty (30) years preceding his election, not less than the last ten (10) years must have been with the current Lodge, and he has attained the age of not less than sixty-five (65). Ronald E. Hall meets all the required qualifications. He has been a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for thirty two (32) years. Ronald E. Hall was initiated on August 5, 1985 and has been a member in good standing of Fredericksburg Elks No. 875 for same period. Ronald E. Hall’s age is 65. All Members must be notified of the election at least ten (10) days prior to the date of the meeting at which the vote shall be taken. The Exalted Ruler has set a date of 24 Octo-ber 2016 for voting on the Life Membership application for Ronald E. Hall.
Ronald E. Hall has been a member in good standing for over 32 years. During this period Ronald
has served our Lodge honorably and with great distinction. His character is above reproach. He
is a good citizen and honest, upright hardworking Elk and a dear friend to all that know and love
him. During his past 32 years as an Elk with Fredericksburg Lodge No. 875, Ronald has been in-
volved in numerous Elks Lodge fund raising events and special projects. He has assisted the Lodge
greatly fixing up and making much needed repairs to the Lodge’s electrical and plumbing system.
Ronald is worthy of the great honor to be favorably accepted as a life member of the Fredericks-
burg Elk Lodge No. 875.

Did You Know? In the 1860’s a few members of the theatrical profession, in the city of New York, formed a social gathering of congenial spirits into a sort of club known as the "Jolly Corks," which hardly deserved the name of organization, as they had little or no organization. They were made up of that stratum of humanity-the theatrical profes-sion-which for preceding generations had been stigmatized as "vagabonds"-those children of genius who have done so much to beautify and enrich the world. As they, in their day, were misunder-stood by the outside world, so was their offspring for many years misunderstood by this same outside world, and it was only in later years that the general public has come to understand the great fra-ternit which sprang from the loins of this once despised theatrical profession. And now, we are the strongest fraternal organizations in the United States. Go Elks! Now you know.

EYES ON THIS ELK MEMBER
Do you know this Elk member of the month? She is Linda Decatur and has been a member of our lodge for 15 years. She is married to Pete Decatur and they will be cele-brating their 50th anniversary on December 31, 2016.
Pete has been ER three times, District Deputy, Elks Lodge Drug Awareness Chairman, and is serving as the Virgin-ia Elks Association State Drug Awareness Chairman for the past 14 years.
They have three children. One son, George Decatur IV and wife Sandy have two daughters, Cindy Hughes and her husband David, and Crystal Hopkins and her husband Chuck. Would you believe this, they are all members of the Elks or the Auxiliary or both! That is great family participation. They also have two grandsons, George V and Matthew Decatur and two granddaughters, Madison and Morgan Hughes.
Linda was born in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Stafford High School. She has been living in Fredericksburg for 52 years. Linda and her husband have traveled to 49 states together but Linda topped off the 50th by going to Hawaii with girlfriends.
Her hobbies include crafts, scrapbooking, (which includes a bookcase full of albums), going to the dinner theatre, photography, and needlework. She worked at G&H Manufacturing Company, at-tended Germana Community College, and earned an Associate in Applied Science in Business and Of-fice. Linda also worked for the Internal Revenue Service. She has worked as an Independent Sales Representative for Avon for the past 38 years. Since her retirement, Linda has been busy enjoying life, entertaining family, traveling, and serving and volunteering in the community.
At the Elks Lodge she volunteers her time doing anything that involves children, decorating for events, taking pictures, and other various things. She also works at Bingo and at the Snack Bar.
Linda’s favorite things to do are being surrounded by her children and grandchildren on vacations and holidays. She always looks forward to their many family festivities. She has a zest for life and lives everyday as if it were a blessing.
A lot of people at the Elks Lodge #875 already know Linda, but if you are new, next time you see her, please introduce yourself to her and thank her for her hard work and generosity of her time.

Trunk or Treat
This year, Fredericksburg Elks Lodge will be conducting
its first Trunk or Treat event at the Lodge on Halloween.
This event will be opened to the public and offer parents
an opportunity to bring their children to a safe environ-
ment as an alternative to the normal door to door trick or
treating. We are presently looking for a church or school
to partner up on this event. We are also looking for people
willing to decorate their trunks and pass out candy to the
children. We will also have the Drug Awareness Trailer on
full display. A sign-up sheet will be located in the lounge
or you can contact me directly at [email protected]
to participate in this great event.
