DO YOU KNOW what 4-H does?

The main goal of 4-H is to

Grow More Confident,

Capable Young People

4-H grows confident, capable,

and caring kids with the life

skills to thrive in today's world

and succeed in their boldest

dreams for tomorrow. Working

in partnership with 110

universities, 4-H programs are

research-backed and offer life-

changing experiences to youth

around the world.

As the youth development

program of the Cooperative

Extension System of land-grant

universities, 4-H is the nation’s

largest youth development

organization, empowering six

million young people

throughout the United States.

Cooperative Extension of 1862

and 1890 land-grant

universities provide the

leadership to engage young

people in 4-H in all 3,007

counties of the United States.

The impact of the Cooperative

Extension partnership is

profound, bringing together

National Institute of Food and

Agriculture of USDA, land

grant universities and county

government to resource

learning opportunities for

youth.

The caring support of adult

volunteers and mentors inspires

young people in 4-H to work

collaboratively, take the lead on

their own projects and set and

achieve goals with confidence.

4-H’ers chart their own course,

explore important issues and

define their place in the world.

4-H’ers stand up for themselves

and their communities.

These pivotal experiences

build a foundation of leadership

and skills for success in their

future careers.

The 4-Hs

Head, Heart, Hands, and

Health are the four Hs in 4-

H, and they are the four

values members work on

through fun and engaging

programs.

Head - Managing,

Thinking

Heart - Relating, Caring

Hands - Giving,

Working

Health - Being, Living

4-H Mission

4-H empowers youth to

reach their full potential,

working and learning in

partnership with caring

adults.

4-H Vision

A world in which youth and

adults learn, grow and

work together as catalysts

for positive change.

Project

FeederWatch Anyone with an interest in birds

can participate in the Cornell

Lab of Ornithology's winter-

long survey of birds that visit

feeders. The information that

FeederWatchers collect helps

scientists track movements of

winter bird populations and

long-term trends in bird

distribution and abundance. As

a FeederWatcher you will

periodically count the birds you

see at your feeder from

November through early April,

reporting your bird counts to

the scientists either via their

website or on mail-in forms.

Learn more about how to

participate at FeederWatch.org.

Small Business

Financial

Management Series

Offered Locally December 3, 10 & 17

University of Missouri

Extension Center in

Jackson Registration is limited to 30. To

register, call 573-243-3581. This three part series, sponsored by

Montgomery Bank of Cape Girardeau

County is a nuts and bolts approach

designed to help business owners and

managers and the financial

management community understand

how a business gets money. It also

goes into the sources and uses of cash

and how to project accurately the

future cash flow of a business.

Classes start at 6pm with a

light supper provided. The first class

is on “Understanding Financial

Statements.” The second class is

entitled, “How to Control Cash Flow,”

and the last one is called, “Predicting

Future Cash Needs.”

Richard Proffer, regional

business specialist for the University

of Missouri Extension, says, “this

class is not an accounting class but

rather a class where we are sharing

practical business information in

everyday language.” He stressed if

you are like many business owners,

and either struggle with accounting or

do not like it, you will still feel

comfortable with this class.

The instructor, Beverly

Koehler, of Koehler Bookkeeping in

Jackson, places emphasis on practical

application not theory. She is the

owner of her own small bookkeeping

business. With several years in the

profession, she has a strong base in

practical knowledge in the subject.

Attendees will receive

several handouts designed to help

them understand and manage their

own business financially, and a

discounted offer for a financial

analysis of their business.

SBTDC/Extension business

programs, sponsored by the Small

Business Administration & University

of Missouri, are open to all interested

residents. Consideration for special

accommodations is taken, if

requested, one week in advance by

calling 573-243-3581 and asking for

Richard Proffer.
