News & Events within the community – Past & Upcoming

Gosh Fulia Nite

The much awaited Gosh Fulia Nite is approaching on Sat 10th August

2013 at Don Moore Community Centre. This year the theme is

Bula/Fiji Style and therefore all are encouraged to get into the spirit

and dress accordingly. Additionally, there will be access to a sound

system with some live singing, meaning Karaoke….Yahoo!! We

would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have purchased

tickets & pledged donations for supporting us.

World Cup Soccer Training

Training for the Kshatriya World Cup 2013 in Suva Fiji is well underway. There has been a steady

increase in player participation, however more players are required. There are now two (2) weekly

training sessions at various grounds:-

Saturday 3pm - 4:40pm

Sunday 10am - 11:30am

ALL Players regardless of their availability to travel to Fiji, are encouraged to participate as the

training sessions are serious but fun. Spectators of all ages are welcome to attend and support our

Sydney boys who are aiming to win back the Thakorlal Cup.

As planned the team did a bonding session which involved a weekend trip up the coast. This

provided a great opportunity for new and old players to form friendship and inspire team spirit. It

was a well-deserved break for some players who have been training hard, attending 90% of the

training sessions.

Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in Shravana month during full moon day or Purnima day. The best time to

tie Rakhi on Raksha Bandhan is during Aparahan which is late afternoon according to Hindu division of the day.

If Aparahan time is not available then Pradosh time is also suitable to perform rituals related to Raksha

Bandhan.

Raksha Bandhan rituals should not be done during Bhadra. Bhadra is malicious time which should be avoided

for all auspicious work. Most Hindu religious texts, including Vratraj, advise to avoid Bhadra time to tie Rakhi

during Raksha Bandhan festival.

It should be noted that Bhadra prevails during first half of Purnima Tithi. Hence one should wait for Bhadra to

get over before starting any auspicious work. In North India it is customary to tie Rakhi in the morning which

might not be suitable time to do it. The DrikPanchang's team believes that it might be due to ignorance. When

such information is easily available one should avoid tying Rakhi during Bhadra.

Some sources advise to avoid Bhadra Mukha and perform Rakhi ceremony during Bhadra Punchhaif it has to

be done during Bhadra in early morning. However our team was not able to find any authority to validate this

belief.

To avoid doing Rakhi ceremony at an inauspicious time it is advisable to check some Panchang like

DrikPanchang.com to find the right time to perform it. We list all Shubh timings which are available to tie Rakhi

for most cities across the globe.
