STAY

Romans 8:15 (NLT)So you should not be like cowering, fearfulslaves. You should behave instead like God’svery own children, adopted into his family–call-ing him “Father, dear Father.”

Galatians 4:6 (NLT)And because you Gentiles have become hischildren, God has sent the Spirit of his Son intoyour hearts, and now you can call God yourdear Father.

What mom can ever forget the surprise and joy ofhearing our little one first call us “Mama”? I rememberso vividly one day after my daughter had actually beencalling me “mama” for quite awhile, but just having theenormity of the title hit me. I was a MOM! I was re-sponsible for this little life who completely trusted andrelied on me!

When Rachelle, our first, was a newborn, I rememberthat feeling of every single decision being HUGE! Itseemed the day was filled with decision after decisionthat I had to now make as a mom, and there was noway to know what the “right” decision was. Little thingsthat never mattered before became life-affecting di-lemmas in my eyes. Now, I look back and laugh at myparanoia and worrying.

But that day at my aunt’s house when Rachelle calledme mama, it just hit again. Maybe it was because wewere coming upon our second cleft lip surgery or may-be it was just because I was with family that day, butthe overwhelming responsibility of being a parent hitme right between the eyes. The sweet joy of beingcalled by that wonderful name was still there, and I feltsuch warmth knowing that this little child trusted meand needed me.

I was also keenly aware of my need for God duringthose times. Thankfully, He never feels overwhelmedby our many calls out to Him as Father, but I think Hefeels the same warmth and joy of hearing us say theword “Father” when we call on Him. At that moment,as my daughter called me “mama” my heart cried out,“Father.” My need was great especially now that myresponsibility was great. As this little one completelyneeded and trusted me, I realized how I so totally andcompletely needed and trusted my heavenly Father.I turned and answered, “Yes, Rachelle. what do youneed?” as my Father embraced me and did the same.

Dear Heavenly Father, You are such a graciousand loving Father. I love Your spontaneous dem-onstrations of love toward Your children. I am so

thankful that You are always there, always hear-ing, always helping. Help me now as I continueon this blessed journey of parenthood. It is thehardest job You’ve ever given me, and some-times I just don’t know how to do it. Father, Ineed Your wisdom and grace. I need Your lead-ing in my daily decisions which can sometimesseem so huge. I want to be the best parent I canbe and make the right decisions for these beau-tiful children You’ve given us, but I feel so com-pletely inadequate at times. I sometimes marvelthat children grow up at all, but they do, andmine are.I know I find comfort in my friends who havebeen parents longer than I have and how theycan offer me wisdom and guidance on my jour-ney, but I am most grateful to be able to call onYou, the Everlasting Father, Who knows beyondanyone else how to parent with complete love.Oh, Father, what a blessing to call on Yourname! Amen.

(Excerpted from A Mother’s Look at the Father’sHeart: A 60-Day Devotional Book for Moms andDads by Terrie Brown)

In Honor of Mother’s Day“A New Title”

Think how much the Father loves us.He loves us so much that he lets usbe called his children, as we trulyare. But since the people of this

world did not know who Christ is,they don’t know who we are..

1 John 3:1, CEV

“Don’t bargain with God. Be direct.Ask for what you need. This isn’t acat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek gamewe’re in. If your child asks for

bread, do you trick him with saw-dust? If he asks for fish, do youscare him with a live snake on hisplate? As bad as you are, youwouldn’t think of such a thing.

You’re at least decent to your ownchildren. So don’t you think the Godwho conceived you in love will be even

better?Matthew 7:7-11, MSG
