During this rainy season, many parts of the country have faced the ravages caused by flash floods, cloudbursts and also incessant heavy rainfall at places. All such natural calamities result in great suffering and hardships to the people, especially the under privileged members of the society who have lost their homes, belongings and even livelihood. Scouts and Guides movement has always motivated its members to help the distressed brothers and sisters in their time of need by collecting donations in cash and kind by assisting the local administration in rehabilitation. In the past, at the time of disasters due to Floods, Cyclones, Earthquakes and Tsunami, the Bharat Scouts and Guides organisation has contributed its humble share as a gesture of fellow feeling and to strengthen the spirit of nationalism. I appeal our Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers and adult leaders of the movement that devastating floods have occurred in many states of the country especially in Assam, Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pardesh and Uttarakhand to come forward and provide your assistance in any form in serving the needy and badly affected by the natural calamity in this hour of crisis.

rd Our country has celebrated its glorious 73Independence Day in a befitting manner. I hope all our bonafide members of the movement have joined the celebrations by taking part in various programmes and activities at all level and had passed the message of patriotism.

thWe will also celebrate 5 September as “Teachers' Day” a mark of respect to the contribution made by teachers to the society. This day is celebrated in commemoration of the great thinker, philosopher, diplomat and the President of India and above all a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, on his birth day.

We convey our greetings to all teachers, adult leaders of the movement engaged in transforming knowledge, skill and values to the young minds on the eve of Teachers day as they educate and inspire them to lead a life of a good citizen to “create a better world”.

24TH WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE OFFICIALLY BEGINS THROUGH VIVACIOUS OPENING CEREMONY

45,000 young people from 150 countries of the world

scouting gathered, standing side by side to celebrate the

inwild and wonderful West Virginia. Cheers and

enthusiasm filled the Summit Stadium at the Summit

the crowd, representing one of the Jamboree's co-hosts.

The 2019 Jamboree is the largest outdoor educational

Craig Turpie, Chairperson of the World Scout Committee

addressed the young audience:

“World Scout Jamborees only happen every four years and tens of thousands of Scouts from all around the world attend each one. It is in times like these that we can show the world how people are able to live in peace and harmony. Scouts, you are shaping the next generation of global leaders.”

As part of the show, World Scouting announced the launch of a new interactive app, Nano app, designed to engage Scouts and other young people in taking action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A sensational atmosphere filled the show by various technological elements that were involved including high-tech NOVUS wristbands that lit up at different moments during the event. Given to every Scout, leader and volunteer present at this year's Jamboree, the NOVUS wristband allows them to connect with new friends, collect activity points, earn digital badges and explore new adventures across the campsite. The ultimate highlight that was used to conclude the opening ceremony was an outstanding drone show. Colourfully lit drones slowly aligned to form different symbols of Scouting that delightfully lit up the skies of West Virginia. The audience was wonderstruck as they looked up to watch the light show.

A VILLAGE FOR HUMANITY

Walking down its green hilly lanes, one notices the variety of small neighbourhoods that line its path. It is the Global Development Village (GDV). The neighbourhoods welcome visitors to explore a different world of learning to unlock a global vision.

Being a core educational experience at World Scout Jamborees since 1991, the Global Development Village offered a powerful interactive space featuring over 20 international organisations to give Scouts a remarkable global learning experience. Among the GDV neighbourhoods, World Scouting partners UNICEF, UNHCR, KAIICID, UN WOMEN, WWF and UN Environment were present at the 24th World Scout Jamboree, highlighting the main themes of the GDV, the 5 P's:

1 . P e o p l e2 . P l a n e t3. Prosperity4 . P e a c e5. Partnership (Youth)

At the Global Development Village, Scouts had the opportunity to learn about global issues and inequalities around the world and how Scouting can help provide a solution. Interactive activities taught Scouts to think globally and act locally, helping them take what they learn at the jamboree and translate that into actions in their own communities.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the main theme across the GDV that World Scouting's external partners and others have been reflecting in each of their exhibit booths and daily workshops. Scouts are able to join conversations, visit exhibitions, presentations, and be part of workshops led by experts from international organisations, leading them to earn a GDV Badge.

PICTIONARY, CAMPFIRES AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

With its vibrantly colourful interior, the Better World tent was an interactive exhibition of World Scouting's programmes at the 24th World Scout Jamboree. The educational space helped young people understand their contribution in creating a better world by offering them a chance to directly interact with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and learn what practical actions they can take to get closer in achieving a peaceful world.

An average of 2,000 day visitors also entered the

exhibition each day, exploring and learning about World

Scouting's programmes on the environment,

humanitarian action, diversity & inclusion, how scouting

keep Scouts safe from harm, creating a culture of peace

through dialogue and much more.

From learning, how to start a Messengers of Peace (MoP) project to create art for an anti-bullying campaign, activities at the Better World tent focused on broadening Scouts' knowledge on the variety of programmes that make up Scouting in different countries.

CULTURAL DAY ENCOURAGES SCOUTS TO EMBRACE DIFFERENCES, CELEBRATE UNITY

In high spirits, colourful sights, and harmonious sounds, Scouts from all walks of life gathered for a day of multicultural festivities at the World Scout Jamboree on 26 July. The Cultural Celebration Day embraced the cultural diversity of the Scout Movement and celebrated the unity of young people from around the globe.

On this day, the Jamboree became even more vibrant as participants wore colourful traditional attire, performed dances and shared the flavours of their national foods. Cultural dresses filled up the Jamboree, from Scottish kilts and Korean hanboks to Kenyan masaisuka, Japanese kimonos and India's Dholka, Kheer, Poha, Idly Sambar, BhelPuri, Dhokla, Khichdi, Pysum, varieties of sweets &namkeen and local food items. Scouts also showcased their heritage through many folklore dances and performances like the Indian Classical dance, Bharat Natyametc, Palestinian dabke, Brazilian samba, South African indlamu and the Mexican jarabetapatio that filled the day with on-going entertainment.

The activitiesoffered young people an opportunity to learn about and better understanding different cultures from around the world, forming life-long friendships with people from near and far. “Cultural Celebration Day was a reminder of the spirit and values of Scouting as an educational movement for young people that was inclusive to all regardless of gender, ethnicity or cultural background. The multi-cultural celebrations took place across the Jamboree basecamps during the day and culminated at night with a marvellous Unity Show that left 45,000 young people in awe. The spectacular evening show was filled with heritage, live performances and an

inspirational guest appearance.

The Unity Show focused on the heritage of one of the 24th World Scout Jamboree hosts, Mexico. A Marijachi band performance was complemented by colourful Mexican folk dancers, and the culture of Mexico was brought to light on stage.

The UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, Jayathma Wickramanayake, inspired thousands of young people with a powerful message:

“There are hundreds of reasons that divide us but there are millions of reasons that unite us,” said Jayathma. “In order to bring true sustainable lasting peace, it's not only politicians who should take leadership; it is the communities, especially the young people. I hope each one of you will be a champion of peace in your community,” she continued.

The crowd continued to cheer through the night as live performances stole the show and Scouts from over 150 countries stood side-by-side singing along to the uniting power of music. A World Scout Jamboree bridges cultures and boundaries to create a global educational experience that will last a lifetime.

ELECTRIC SHOW CLOSES OUT MEMORABLE 24TH WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE

The 24th World Scout Jamboree came to close during an st

energetic show on 1 August, 2019 evening marking 12 days of cultural exchange, skills building and memories for some 45,000 young people that gathered from over 150 countries to participate in the global event.

The ceremony kicked off with a marching band from the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (Old Guards), representing USA as one of the Jamboree's co-hosting countries. Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, then took to the stage to share an inspiring message of encouragement and motivation for young people to be the agents of change in their communities back at home.

“This Jamboree gathering is a beautiful reminder of how Scouting celebrates diversity and unity - a truly global city that is a perfect example of how the world should be,” said Ahmad and continued “Now more than ever we need young people to stand up and take action around the challenges facing our communities and planet,to promote human rights and act against injustice, to tackle climate change and promote gender equality, and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Ahmad thanked the Scouts of USA, Mexico and Canada, along with the local authorities, global partners and over 8,000 International Service Team volunteers for making the World Scout Jamboree a success. Together Scouts and volunteers from around the world built a city founded on unity and understanding, ensuring an unforgettable experience of international celebration.

are committed to service and helping others,” said Ban

Ki-moon addressing the thousands of young people in

the crowd.

th24 World Scout Jamboree Views

24th World Scout Jamboree was held in The Summit Becthel nd ndreserve, Glen Jean, West Virgina,USA from 22 July to 2

August 2019. 250 youth participants (appx.) represented India.

Summit Becthel Reserve, Glen Jean, West Virgina,USA. The theme of the WSJ was` Unlock a New World`.

S.P. Gowtham of Karnataka writes: After arrival at the Summit Bechtel National Reserve, we started pitching our tents and arranged our cots. Just after few hours of resting we were eager to explore the campsite. The pleasant atmosphere with greenery all around added energy to our exploration. The climate was very extreme – hot during the day and cold at night.

thWe received the official 24 WSJ scarf and badge. We also received our Novus and were glad to make friends with the scouts all around the world.

ndOn 22 evening we made our way to the Central Mondial with patriotism filled in our heart. We cheered for our country throughout the way. It was a wonderful experience for all of us to see the scouts all around the world coming to witness the Grand Opening Ceremony. It was a surprising moment to watch Bear Grylls with the Recycled Percussion to inaugurate the opening ceremony. The Summit BecthelReserve,Glen Jean, West Virgina,USA.

A lot of choices were kept open for the scouts to participate in adventurous activities. Without wasting our time we were engaged in most of the adventures with enthusiasm. To mention a few

Ø Rock climbing – where we realised the importance of flexibility and body control.

Ø Low Gear and BMX – which improved our

concentration and balance.

Ø Barrels and Bows – which improved our aiming skills

and determination.

Ø River Rafting – which helped us to come over the

obstacles of fear.

Ø Scuba Diving – where we experienced balanced

breathing underwater.

Ø Water Reality – where we learnt to compete in life.

Puneet S from R S unit, Bangalore South reports that living in

21st Century and exploring the areas were one of the

highlights of the Jamboree which had various activities like

building a robotic arm controller, superconductors reaching

temperatures down to -196 degree Celsius and even Tesla

Coils. Every Science Enthusiast should do such activities and

the exploration taught a lot of hygiene and safety in a camping

area.

A very interesting factor in the camping is Trading. The scouts

from India are very clever in trading. We traded with the fellow

scouts from America, Australia, Germany, Switzerland,

Canada, Japan, UK, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and many other

countries. Cultural Exchange was the key factor of trading. It

was an amazing experience to learn about the various cultures

and traditions of different countries.

Global Development Village is the place where we had an

opportunity to gain knowledge about different countries.

Art of Cooking is a unique experience in one's life. We were

given a chance to cook our food. We had to buy the groceries

from the food market and prepare a tasty food using it. We

realized the importance of food and decided not to waste it.

th26 July 2019 was more colourful as the scouts from various

countries had dressed up in their ethnic wear. On the cultural

day they dressed traditionally and made sure that people get a

chance to know India and its culture through our exhibition of

food and culture. People from many countries like America,

Canada, Switzerland, Japan and Australia visited the campsite

where Indian contingent camped and tasted the food and

witnessed our culture. They enjoyed our dishes. Other countries

also invited members of the Indian contingent to visit them and

get to know a lot about their culture.

We had a proud feeling to showcase our traditional wear. On

this cultural day, we presented a patriotic dance performance

to highlight the pride of our country. It was a very proud

moment for all of us to wave the Indian flag in the midst of huge

gathering.
