Notes from your editors

Hello Proviscope readers! New school year, new writers and most importantly… new editors! With that said, I would like to formally introduce Colin Martin and I, Isabella Altobelli, to all of you wonderful people out there so you can get to know us better throughout our articles filled with endless cre-ativity.

Since both of us are Seniors, we are always busy with college and scholarship applications, but we balance our time to do what we love… WRITING! With very high hopes for our future we try our best to excel in the classroom and to chase our crazy dreams. Personally, I would love to double major in Fashion Journalism and Business, with the hope of working at Vogue at some point in my future; going to school out in New York is also a dream of mine. Colin would love to major in Aviation. Although, he is not quite sure where he wants to attend college yet, going far away and traveling the world is his main focus.

We are very excited for the school year to take off and to share our ideas with the stu-dent body. However, most stu-dents view Senior year as “the year of lasts,” but we see this school year as an opportunity

to immerse ourselves with dif-ferent adventures and to try new things. So, instead of it be-ing the “year of lasts,” it is now the “year of opportunity.”

With that said, there is a great deal of potential this year with our new writers and we cannot wait to bring their

hidden talent to light. All of the articles range from ath-letic teams to summer memo-ries and even tasty fall recipes. There is something for every-one!

Does anyone else feel like summer 2016 was shorter than the ones in the past? Well, maybe it was- considering we started school on August 15th this year. Even though the summer seemed to fly by, I, along with many other Providence students were able to enjoy many fun and memorable times. As for me, my summer was filled with softball, but that gave me the opportunity to travel from coast to coast. I was able to stand in awe of the 9/11 Memorial in nYC and a couple weeks later, enjoy the beaches of Southern California. In addition to playing softball, I also enjoyed family get togethers and fun times with friends.

After talking to some of the other Providence students, I discovered that a lot of them also did some exciting things as well. For starters, nikki Zavodny (freshman) enjoyed an exotic trip to Aruba

where she parasailed over the clear blue ocean. next, Shannon Smith (sophomore) went to Florida for a volleyball tournament and was able to spend time at the beach. Steven Meyer (junior) not only enjoyed some time spent at the dunes, but was also honored at u.S. Cellular Field along with the 2016 Providence Celtic State Championship Baseball Team. Finally, Joe Pericht (senior) traveled to California to attend a San Francisco Giants game and biked over the Golden Gate Bridge.

As I gathered all my information I came to the conclusion that although our summer seemed too short, it was definitely one to remember. As school gets busy never forget that the tan lines will fade but the summer memories will last forever. As my favorite Disney character Olaf would say, “Winter is a good time to stay in and cuddle, but put me in Summer and I’ll be a happy snowman.”

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Many wish the different groups of people in the world would get along; there would be no wars, no poverty, and no discrimination. This may seem impossible, but all it takes is a helping hand. Habitat for Humanity was formed on the idea of making a difference in the world

. If you want to see the world change for the better, then sign up for Habitat for Humanity! The club has many activities in which you can help make a difference. A simple candy bar sale can help raise the money needed for the trip at the end of the year, where students and faculty lend a hand on building homes for those in need. A simple gesture can mean the world to someone in need of support. Join Habitat for Humanity!

There are so many new teachers walking the halls of Providence this year! They teach all different subjects and grade levels. We are so happy to welcome each of them to the Providence family. Let’s meet a few…

The first new family member is Mr. Lee Lundal. Mr. Lundal teaches Spanish 1 and Spanish 3 for Freshman and Juniors. He is looking forward to the new school year because his students are very attentive and eager to learn; he also enjoys teaching Spanish. One thing Mr. Lundal loves about Providence already is the warm atmosphere, welcoming spirit, and the students. When Mr. Lundal is not teaching, he enjoys reading books on uS History. One fun fact about Mr. Lundal that he would like to share with the Providence community is that he has enjoyed all of his travels, which include being fortunate enough to have visited 65 different countries around the world, even some on multiple occasions. Mr. Lundal is very excited to be new to the Providence family.

The next new family member is Mrs. Valerie Stoub. This year, Mrs. Stoub teaches English to freshman. She is looking forward to many things in this upcoming school year which include feeling at home, being supported by so many individuals, and teaching her students. She said she feels at home because she graduated from Providence and says “It is very nostalgic to see so many of my former teachers, who have made an impact on my life in so

many ways.” She also said she feels welcomed into a family, not just a new workplace, and has loved all the support she has received. Lastly, Mrs. Stoub is looking forward to teaching all her students. She has loved everything about her first week at Providence; the respect and maturity of the students and the curriculum she is teaching. Mrs. Stoub has stated that one thing she loves about Providence is, “The dedication to prayer and the family atmosphere”. When she is not teaching at Providence, she enjoys spending time with her three children and husband, running, or getting into a great book. Finally, one fun fact that Mrs. Stoub would like to share with the Providence community is she went skydiving once and never did it again after that. She is very ecstatic to join the Providence community.

Another new family member is Ms. Samantha Allen. Ms. Allen teaches American History and American Government to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors at Providence. She is very excited for the upcoming school year because she has such a great group of students and loves the school spirit here. All in all, she describes Providence as being a special place to be. One thing she loves about the atmosphere here already is the loving and welcoming community. She has seen so many random acts of kindness everywhere in the school in the last few weeks. During her free time, Ms. Allen likes to spend time with family and friends, watching musicals from the 40’s and 50’s and loves to bake anything with chocolate in it. YuM! Her favorite movie of all-time is “Singin’ in the Rain”. An interesting fact about herself is that she has

gone to Disney 16 times! She is a HuGE Disney fan, along with her family. She loves going to Disney because it brings her back to her favorite childhood memories. Her 17th trip is just around the corner in October.

The next new member of the family is Mr. Kenneth Micks. Mr. Micks teaches Spanish 1 and 2 to Freshmen and Sophomores this year. It is very hard for him to say goodbye to summer, but he is looking forward to this school year because it is easier for him to get into daily routines with school in session. Although Mr. Micks is still new to the school, a few things he loves about Providence already is the school pride everyone has, the helpfulness of all faculty and staff, and the respectfulness of his students. When Mr. Micks is away from Providence, he enjoys visiting with family and friends and traveling with his wife. They plan to hopefully visit Honduras sometime in the future. Some fun facts about Mr. Micks is that he enjoys traveling, camping, water sports, basketball, and skiing.

The last new family member is Ms. China Weil. Ms. Weil teaches Introduction to Catholicism to Freshmen and Old Testament and new Testament to Sophomores. She is very excited for this school year because she gets a chance to know the Providence family and learn more about the Augustinian values. One thing she already loves about Providence is how friendly and welcoming all of the faculty and students are. In her spare time, Ms. Weil enjoys watching college sports, golfing, reading, and watching “The Office.” One fun fact that Ms. Weil would like to share with the Providence community

is that she is the oldest of seven children in her family and she grew up on a farm in nebraska.

All in all, our new teachers are very happy and excited for this school year and new experiences at Providence. They are all very passionate and love teaching and we are very happy to welcome them into our Celtic home!

It’s the Great Musical:

Charlie BrownBy Jessica Baldys ‘17

This year, the Fall Musical will be “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” and it promises to be a fun and lively spectacle for the ages. The musical entails of the titular Charlie Brown (played by Brad Baldys ‘17) going about his daily life while trying to decide if he is as strong as his friends seem to think he is. Charlie Brown tries to fly a kite, capture the attention of the Little Red-Headed Girl (portrayed by Clara McKendry 18’), and write a book report the day before its

due date, all while contemplating his place in the world.

An interesting aspect of the show is that it will have two separate casts—although the roles of Charlie Brown and Schroeder (Will Karabel ’17) are the same, the roles of Linus, Lucy, and Sally in the “Green Cast” will be played by Jessica Baldys (17’), Claire Diamond (17’), and Devin Evans (18’), respectively. In the White Cast, Linus, Lucy, and Sally will be played by Lizzi Stack (17’), Christina Muraskas (19’), and Bailey Stajura (17’). The dual role of Snoopy will be played by Abby Schaefer (18’) for the Green Cast and Katie Saunders (18’) for the White Cast.

Rehearsals have begun, and the cast has made huge strides in the production. PCHS Theatre Club President Celine Stroup (17’) says that “Everyone is very excited” and that it is “Good to be working with new people” in reference to the newest members in the cast, crew, and pit. Overall, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is sure to be an entertaining production for all who see it. Make sure to read the Daily Announcements for updates on the show and information on how to buy tickets!

The marching band’s show for 2016 is entitled “What Do I Desire.” The theme is meant to have the viewers think, “What would I attain if money was not an option?” Periodically, throughout the show, a voice over from a speech will be heard to help the audience ponder the question. In addition to the band and guard on the field, there will be mirrors that surround the band to dramatize the self-reflection. The color guard silks will be a variety of colors to help give a dreamlike quality to the show. There are also many other tricks and surprises within the show! Come and see us! We perform during halftime at the home football games and we also have a variety of different competitions we attend. Come out and support the Providence Catholic Band! The band is under the direction of Mr. Rogers and the Color Guard

is under the direction of Mr. Ball and Ms. Garcia. Our upcoming competitions are Wheaton north High School on September 17, Andrew High School on October 1, Lincoln Way north and Downers Grove on October 8, and our home competition is on October 15. The

marching band is hosting our own competitions with over twenty-one bands represented. Bands start performing at two in the afternoon, starting with smaller bands in the beginning, and larger bands at the end. We then perform in the exhibition around nine thirty.

Are you nervous about starting high school? Are you scared about the high school cliques that you see in movies may be real? Trust me, high school may frighten you now, but once you walk through the doors on your first day at Providence, you won’t be scared at all.

You may be expecting lots of homework, crowded hallways, and tests every week because it is what you always assumed High school would be like. Then the first week of school comes around and it is true! The hallways are always jam-packed, you have tests every week and you do have lots of homework. But, I promise you that after the first few weeks of navigating through the halls, getting your homework planned out, and finding a study habit that fits you, things become much easier. One thing that I strongly suggest is to carry around your planner! Your planner helps you keep track of all the work you are assigned and so that you can turn everything in on time. Also, your planner shows the different schedules on certain days so you know what classes are on that day. Thus, another important aspect in maintaining sanity is that you should try your best to stay organized. Some ways to get organized is to place your books in the order of your classes. This is really helpful when you are rushing between classes. Lastly, I recommend color coding your folders and spirals according

to classes. For example, if your English notebook is green use a green folder for English.

I interviewed a current freshman, Mary Grace McGrath. When asked what advice she would give the other freshman she responded, “ Incoming freshmen should expect amazing, helpful teachers and a friendly atmosphere. Within a day, I felt like I was at home. I wish someone would have told me how much

fun I would actually have in class. I thought high school was going to be boring before experiencing it myself. If I could have one thing during the day, I would have an infinite-color high lighter pen that would change colors with my mind for easier note-taking. I

also like to have scissors to make foldables for vocabulary words. Before coming into his or her first year, an incoming freshman should tour the school, ask questions and be excited.” Even though we have new technology devices with us in class, it is proven that if you write out your notes down you are more likely to remember the information.

High school is hard work and includes many hours of preparation for tests, but do not just spend all your time just doing that. Get involved! Providence has many activities and sports you can join that include Proviscope, which is the school newspaper, and AYM, Augustinian Youth Ministry. It is strongly encouraged to join extra curricular activities, not only because it is fun, but you get to meet new people that you would not have met if you did not join a club. Providence is an amazing school with many opportunities.

The three month weekend has pastAnd thus begins the year of lastsI see moving people everywhere

Tired eyes and vacant staresFeet shuffle through the halls

Voices bounce off the wallsAnd it’s music to my ears

I look around and see family not peersLove is the sun and this school is one big glare

It warms my heart like unconditioned air Some wish school days away but I promise you I won’t

Because each day I wake up leave my house and come home

BuT I AM BuT A PAWN By Joseph nugent

Eight of my brothers in a line we stand. We are all waiting for our first command. My king and queen are in the back,Ordering us to attack.

The sixteen of us are as white as day,The sixteen of them are as black as night.Though try as they might,We know that we will win the fight.

The battle begins just after dawn. The noise of fighting is so near. This is a time, where I despise to be a pawn.Where the clangs and clatters I can hear,Are but a tile away from my ear.

The time is now, for the battle cry is strong, I know now that it won’t be long. It is not time to be casual,As I am about to move diagonal. And the first piece I took,Was a five point rook.

For it is now, that I stand alone,Noticing I am but polished stone. All around I look there is nothing,So at this time I see something.I see my only chance to not be a pawn,And to survive, off this hallowed lawn.

Then I run, slash and take no lip,As I take down a bishop. To a tile far from my own,Where I soon will not be recognizable, at my home.

The piece that seemed just right,Was of course the sacred Knight. Now with range like never before,I galloped across this sacred floor.

Now as the sun sets; The only unbearable thing is the evening light,And the only piece that the opponent has is his one surviving royal king. So, I strike the tall and opposing king. And all that is left is a piercing ring, And the silent fall of that solemn night.

The 2016 MTV VMAS aired on Sunday, August 28th, 2016 from Madison Square Garden in new York City. Just a quick recap for those who missed it: Drake honored his girlfriend, Rihanna, with this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Kanye West presented the crowd with yet another speech for the books. He also debuted his newest music video for “Fade.” Rihanna performed a show stopping medley. Britney Spears took the stage for the first time in years, performing “Make Me” with G-Eazy. Ariana Grande and nicki Minaj performed their new hit together called “Side to Side.” Beyonce stole the show and won eight awards including Video of the Year. DnCE won Best new Artist. Other winners also included Coldplay, Calvin Harris, Drake, and Twenty One Pilots.

Of course, all that is truly important is who killed

it on stage. Rihanna opened the show by performing her dance medley of “Don’t Stop the Music,” “Only Girl (In the World),” “We Found Love,” and “Where Have You Been.” Ariana and nicki followed with their performance of “Side to Side.” Future took the stage next and was followed by Rihanna again with a reggae-themed medley. nick Jonas, Ty Dolla $ign, and Beyonce all took the stage after. Britney Spears and G-Eazy then took the stage to perform “Make Me.” Lastly, Rihanna performed her third medley of the night. By far, Rihanna was the woman of the night with three performances and the acceptance of the Moonman given to her by Drake.

Harambe and bantu

By Henry Horak ’18 & Jack O’Connell ‘18

The recent tragedy of 2 brave gorillas, Harambe and Bantu, was America’s biggest summer upset. Harambe was a Western Lowland gorilla out of the Cincinnati Zoo, but he originally from Texas and was gunned down in cold blood on May the 28th of this year. Harambe was brought to Cincinnati for breeding purposes because Western Lowland gorillas are becoming extinct. Bantu was a Silverback Gorilla from Mexico City in the Chapultepec Zoo. He was 24 years old and very close to making his 25th birthday which is on September 20th. Both gorillas were a major source of happiness and joy for the visitors of both zoos.

Harambe was America’s favorite gorilla. Harambe weighed in at about 440 lbs (200 kg) and stood at

a towering 5’11”. A young boy fell into the Gorilla enclosure after telling his mom, witnesses say, that he “wanted to get a better look.” Harambe picked up the boy and was dragging him around and was savagely shot and killed. Many primatologists say that the zookeeper was right in choosing to shoot Harambe, but, ape expert, Dr. Emily Bethell was telling Mirror Online that in no way was Harambe’s body language threatening, but was rather in a protective state. There’s always another option and something else could’ve been done to avoid having to kill the beloved gorilla. Harambe did not deserve to die and may his soul rest in

peace forever. The question everyone wants to know is “Who would win in a fight?”.

Bantu was a hefty 485 lbs(220kg) and was a whopping 5’9”. Bantu was on his way to another zoo in Mexico when he was shot in transport because he was getting too rambunctious. He was in transport to mate with 2 other gorillas. He was not killed immediately by the gunshots, sources say, but he went into cardiorespiratory arrest as a result of the wounds and sedation. Bantu was a main attraction at the Chapultepec Zoo and many staff members were mournful at the loss of Mexico’s favorite gorilla. Bantu was considered a genuine, kind-hearted soul.

CHARLIEBy Magdie Bandyk ’18 & Jack McFarland ‘18

“People won’t always remember the words you have said to them, but they will remember the way you made them feel” is a perfect quote to describe Charlie Dunne. He didn’t always know what to say or how to say it, but always found a way of putting a smile on someone’s face.

Gone, but never forgotten. The senior editor of Proviscope had asked us to write a remembrance on our beloved classmate and friend, Charlie who passed away in May. After thinking how to describe Charlie, we concluded that he couldn’t be described in mere words. He is remembered by his actions and the way he made people feel.

On the football field, Charlie was not always the most athletic or talented player. But, what Charlie lacked, he made up with heart. Overall, no matter how tough the practice or the adversity the football team faced, Charlie was always there to support and lighten the mood. The football team can agree that he was not destined to be a pro football player but the teams’ comedian. Charlie always provided comic relief.

However, not only did Charlie affect lives on the football field but in and outside of the Providence Community. Charlie always gave a positive feel in the classroom. The spirit he embodied constantly lifted teachers and students. Often times, and usually not the right time, Charlie would let out side comments or jokes that made so many people laugh or smile throughout the school day. But not to forget, he was a very had working young man. He did what he was told and maybe complained a few times but he eventually got the job done.

For all of those who had the great opportunity to meet and know Charlie, know how great of a blessing it was and still is to have him in our lives. As cliché as this common saying is, “There is really no way to describe how we really feel about someone or how they have made us feel.”

Through the Lung Force Walk organization, there is a walk hosted on September 25th 2016 (the day after PCHS Homecoming) at 9:30am. It is located in Oak Brook at the McDonalds Hamburger university (2715 Jorie Blvd, Oakbrook, IL 60523). The walk has been set-up to raise funds to defeat lung related diseases such as lung cancer and other lung related

diseases such as asthma. The walk is three miles long and is in honor of Charlie Dunne. Email or text (Junior) Morgan Coyle, if you are interested in joining the team. All donations towards the organization are appreciated!

eleCtIon yearBy Ryan Sullivan ‘17

unless you have not watched the news in the past year, then you have missed probably one of the craziest events in the history of the united States. This chaotic event is the lead up to the 2016 Presidential Election. After more than a dozen candidates fought to the top, only two have accepted nominations to the Democratic and Republican Party. The first candidate is Hilary Clinton representing the Democratic Party. She served as the First Lady during Bill Clinton’s Presidency and later served, as the Secretary of State under President Obama. She has recently come under large scrutiny, because of the 2012 Benghazi attacks, as well as concerns over her private email account. Clinton’s running mate is also Tim Kaine. The second candidate is Donald Trump, representing the Republican Party. After decades of working in the real estate business and hosting the reality television show “The Apprentice,” Donald decided to start a campaign for his presidency in June 2015. Despite being a well-known businessman, Trump has largely been criticized for his controversial comments and a lack of political experience. His running mate is also Mike Pence. My view of this election is that if you are not a fan of Donald Trump or Hilary Clinton, then maybe you should consider voting for 3rd party candidates such as Jill Stein or Gary Johnson. Yet, I have always believed that you should vote if you are eligible. Voting is a freedom that Americans often take for granted.

purposeBy Mary Mathieu ‘19

Purpose is something that demands to be found.

One question that comes to mind when identify-

ing our purpose in life is:

How am I making a difference?

You may not know your purpose in life yet, but

that is OK. God has created each of us with a unique

purpose. A purpose that depends on us to fulfill it.

Every day we unwind our purpose more and more.

Kind deeds, such as lending a pencil to someone,

helping someone who dropped their books in the

hallway, or even smiling at someone you never

talked to before help identify our purpose. How do

these kind deeds relate to our purpose in life? They

relate to our purpose in life by identifying what kind

person we want ourselves to become. notice how all

these positive deeds are simple ones. It goes to show

you little things can make a huge difference. Any lit-

tle thing we do in our lives form us into the human

being we are. Therefore, never take “little things” for

granted. This is just one of many examples of identi-

fying purpose in this life.

The BuckeT LisT: Top 10 FaLL RecipesBy Isabella Bucciferro 2017

Fall is hands down my favorite season. But since I can’t resist a good fall recipe, I’ve compiled a list of recipes that everyone should make at least once during the fall:

1. Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Honey (This is not only healthy, but it is also delicious!).

2. Apple Cider Donuts (Can anything get better than donuts? I rest my case).

3. Hot Apple Cider (make this so you can put it in your donuts).

4. Pumpkin Pie (a classic that screams fall).

5. Mexican Hot Chocolate (basically regular hot chocolate but with some spice).

6. Toasted Pumpkin Seeds (these crunchy little seeds just make salads taste slightly more ed-ible).

7. Butternut Squash Soup with Crispy Bacon (This seems a little weird, but trust me when I say it’s so delicious...).

8. Caramel Apples (Again, nothing screams fall quite like getting caramel stuck on your teeth af-ter you eat one).

9. Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes (Any excuse to eat potatoes is good one… so just go make a big batch of this ASAP).

10. Stuffing (A staple of every Thanksgiving meal… Make a big batch and eat it at every meal for a week!).

CeltIC Golf Cross patHsOnly once a year, there is a golf tournament where both the Boys Varsity Team and the Girls Varsity Team

participate. The Providence Boys and Girls Golf Teams participated in the Providence Catholic/Homewood Flossmoor Co-Ed Classic. The Boys Team won the event. Ricky Costello was Medalist with a 68, Mike Cascino took 2nd with a 73. From the girls team, Alyssa Gromala placed 3rd with a 75 and Ellie Bilotta finished 8th with an 81.

CELTIC SPIRITThe PCHS Student Section can always be counted on to cheer on Celtic teams. The stands were packed and the theme was Red, White and Blue for the opening home football game on August 27 for a rare Saturday night game in New Lenox. The Celtics came up short versus East St. Louis, but came back the following week on the road to top St. John Vianney.

Providence Catholic Varsity Cheerleading, commonly referred to as “The Girls in Green,” is known for their excellence in the Illinois High School Association. Since 2011, the Celtics have crossed the State podium four times; 2011 finishing in third place, 2013 State Champions, 2014 as bronze medalists, and 2016 receiving silver medals. Lauren Bird (four-year senior on Varsity) exclaims, “Crossing the podium is a feeling like no other. When I hear our name called, receive my medal, and cross the podium, I feel pure joy and happiness.” Along with their State accomplishments, the Girls in Green have attained six Sectional Championship titles! Quite a collection!

Although their talent shines throughout their hardware accomplishments, the Girls in Green also focus on one of the core values at Providence Catholic High School, service to others. The Celtics have attended countless amounts of service opportunities, one of which being for Providence’s very own, Joey Harris (senior). For the past three years, the cheerleading program at Providence Catholic has been walking for Team Joey at the Hydrocephalus walk. “It is such a rewarding experience to help others,” Lauren Bird exclaims.

“My Favorite thing about being a Providence Catholic Varsity Cheerleader is cheering at Friday night football games. I love the game day atmosphere. It is so much fun getting the crowd pumped up, performing on the field, and cheering on the sidelines. It is amazing to see the Providence Catholic community come together to support our football team,” Lauren Bird remarks on Celtic game day experiences. On Saturday, August 27th, Lauren Bird and the ten other seniors (Cara Cox, Christine Follenwider, Amy Jensen, Sarah Kaley, Josie Marron, Hailey Radakovitz, natasha Tuminello, Lexi Vennetti and Maddy Watson) on both programs celebrated Senior night. “There is great chemistry between the seniors. We all support each

other and take turns leading the team. Cara Cox, Amy Jensen, Sarah Kaley, Hailey Radakovitz, and I (Lauren Bird) all attended CJB and have been cheering together for ten years. All eight of us were brought together through the Providence Catholic C h e e r l e a d i n g program as freshman and have been best friends ever since.”

The Girls in Green plan to continue their legacy. The team

consists of a strong senior class, determined sophomores, and ever-willing freshman. “Winning a State Championship is a team goal that we all have in mind. Although we cannot predict the future, we will be working very hard to help us reach our fullest potential going into the competition season to achieve our goal.” Follow the Providence Catholic Cheerleaders every Friday night on the sidelines and continue to cheer them on throughout their journey to state!

Another year and yet another State Championship, a 3-Peat to be exact! Celtic Baseball broke Illinois history by becoming the first program to ever win three State Championships in a row! Many of the graduated state championship seniors are now continuing their dreams playing collegiate level baseball: Mike Madej will be playing at Purdue University, Tom Kelly will be playing at Miami of Ohio, and Jim Jefferies will be playing at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Shawn Harper and Colin Airola are teammates at University of St. Francis, Zach Pych and Jackson Stulas will be members of the Parkland Community College team, Jackson Dvorak and Matt Waznis are off to South Suburban Community College, Reed McCool is also close by at North Central College, Matt Gruszkowski is playing for Loras College

and Connor Creed is at Joliet Junior College. With that many team members continuing play at higher levels it can easily be seen why we accomplished something no one else ever has! Good luck to all of this year’s college freshmen in their new adventures!

The 2016-2017 season has already begun with morning workouts for the team led by Coach Mike Pericht. Three times a week at 6 a.m., the team joins in the weight room to start lifting in preparation for opening day. Based on how much work the team is already putting in, I believe we will have another great season. With only nine seniors hoping to return to lead the team, it is a very different atmosphere than last year’s 21 seniors, but this small, tight knit group of guys plans to pick up right where last year’s left off. Below: Celebration erupts as the Celtics capture their 3rd State Championship for a state record!
