Though India stands first in the world in term of milk production and bovine population, average production still needs to be improved; this may be due low plan of nutrition, insufficient availability of good quality fodder. This has led to find alternate source of good quality unconventional feed/fodder efficient livestock production. The Animal Science Discipline is implementing Front Line Demonstation (FLD) programme on Azolla cultivation, which hold the promise of providing sustainable feed for livestock. Under this FLD Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Karda has organized training and demonstration on Azolla production on 29th Sept.20 14 at KVK campus. Mr. S.K. Deshmukh, SMS (Extension), Mr. T.S. Deshmukh, SMS (Agronomy) Mr. Pramod Deshmukh (DC, NABARD) and Dr. D.L.Ramteke, (P.A. Animal Science) were present during the programme. After inaugural speech, Dr. Ramteke guided the farmers on balance diet and its importance in better management of animals. He focused on use of Azolla feed and its production technology to increase in the yield of milk and as well as fat percentage. Mr.S.K.Deshmukh appealed the farmers to use this technology and spread it in their villages among the farmers. After technical session all trainees were visited to Azolla production unit at KVK campus. The Azolla plants were distributed among the selected beneficiaries under FLD programme. Farmer expressed satisfaction about the technology which can save their feed cost and also increase in milk yield and fat percentage of milk animals. we hope that the azolla technology will be taken up more widely by dairy farmers, in particular those who have too little land for fodder production. View of training and demonstration of ornamental fisheryKrishi Vigyan Kendra of Washim district

conducted Five days training programme for rural womenon Ornamental fish Breeding, Rearing and Culture whichwas sponsored by National Fisheries Development Board,Hyderabad. Twenty five rural women and youths fromvillage Karda, Ghobani, Mothagaon, Koyali, Kawtha andChikali of Risod block of Washim District wereparticipated in the training programme.

The training programme was inaugurated by Dr.R.L.Kale, Programme Coordinator KVK. Otherdignitaries on the dias were Shri. S.K.Deshmukh, Shri.R.S.Daware, Dr. D.L.Ramteke, Shri. N.B.Patil andProjectAssistant Rama Deshmukh were present. Dr. Kalein his inaugural speech appealed to participants to take thebenefit of facilities available at KVK to start their smallOrnamental fish rearing unit at their villages.

In the first technical session Rama Deshmukhelaborated the history of Ornamental Fishery through apower point presentation all aspects on identification ofspecies, Egg layer fishes, live bearer fishes, types ofaquatic weed and their role in Ornamental fishery etc.Importance of natural and artificial feeds was alsodiscussed in detailed. After the theory period all thetrainees were visited to Ornamental Fish Unit and FishFeed Mill established with the support of DST, NewDelhi at KVK campus. About 10 Kg feed wasmanufactured with the help of trainee and the operator.Trainees cleared all their doubts during the practicalseSSIOn.

During Valedictory function Dr. R. L Kale,explained about the strategy for marketing of Ornamentalfishes, cost of production and sale price so as to arrive at aprofitable solution while starting the small scale units. Hehas shown various photographs of Ornamental fish unitsestablished under NFDB scheme at farmers field throughpower point presentation. The proceeding conducted andvote of thanks was proposed by Ms. S.N.Watane.

2.Rhode Island Red 3.Giriraja 4.Black Austrolap for thecomparative study.

• Rearing of 1000 Japanies Quail for demonstration aswell as commercial purpose.

• Establishment of integrated ornamental fish unit at KVKcampus under National Fisheries Development Board.

• Renovation of fish seed rearing tanks under financialassistance NFDB.

Hello Shastradnya Programme:(Farmers-Scientist telephonic interactions) Four

programmes were conducted on need based topics -1. Integrated pest and disease management in pigeon

pea crop 51 farmers contacted on phone.2. Advances in chickpea and wheat production

technology 49 farmers contacted on phone.3. Pest management in pigeon pea and production

technologies for bengalgram crop 52farmerscontacted on phone.

listener farmers forwarded to ICAR reporter byExtension Education Discipline.

3. Documentation of integrated rainfed farming systemmodule is in progress with the help of Head Dept. ofExtension Education Dr.PDKV, Akola.

5. Kisan Mobile Advisery (KMA): Agro adviseryprovided to 43925 Farmers on crop production,weather, live stock awareness/ information etc.

6. Organised Training on protected cultivation atHorticulture TrainingCentre,Talegaon Dabhale (Pune) inconvergencewith CAlM andNABARD.

7. Initiated linkages for Soybean direct marketing to ADMsolvexplant ofAkola. FarmerscangetRs. 300-350/- more.

View of Milk collection established through intervention

Mop is one of the village in Risod cluster whereCAlM Project is being implemented by Krishi VigyanKendra, Karda. Earlier dairy farmers were selling their milkin Risod market which was very difficult and timeconsuming task for them.

As a project intervention, Mop village is linked withNisarg Dairy, Risod for milk collection by establishing oneJLG, who is operating thecentre and gettingcommission of Rs.1/- perliter.Now at present around400 liters of milk iscollectedat the Mop centre.

As an anotherintervention, one JLG with6members has been formed ~----~------------~and linked to Allahabad View of Dairy unit of beneficiarybank and the Banks lend two animals per member andCAlM also provided back ended subsidy of Rs. 25000/- toeachmember.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Karda has conducted meetingand trainings for dairy farmers and also provideddemonstration ofPhule Jaywant grass for green fodder andalso of Azolla as a concentrated feed to dairy farmers of thevillage.

At the initial level, heprepared bed for Azolla.Looking the result ofAzolla, he transfered theAzolla in Farm pond.Within the period of onemonth, the whole farmpond was covered wi th Farner's wife helping him in dairy farming

Azolla. At present he is providing 1-2 kg of azolla perbuffalo and reduced the cake (concentrated feed) upto 50 %.

As a result of same, the milk yield is increased by20% and the fat of milk is also increased from 1.5 to 2 %.Because of same, he is getting an additional return of Rs.150 per buffalo. At the same time he saves cost ofRs. 35-40per buffalo over cake. Farmers from nearby villages arevisiting to his farm.

This is one of the ideal success story of end to endapproach in dairy industry implemented by Krishi VigyanKendra Karda, CAlM project.

Farmers havesuccessfully implementedboth demonstrations at theirfield. As a result, the costover fodder and feed isreduced with increased inmilk yield and as well as fatpercentage. One of thefarmers Mr. Santosh

The Annual Zonal Workshop ofKVKs Zone - V wasorganized during 29th September to 151 October 2014 atKrishi Vigyan Kendra, Baramati, Pune. District Project Monitoring Committeemeeting ofNABARD sponsored Lead Crop Projectwas organized at KVK Karda campus on zo"Oct.,2014 under the Chairmanship of Dr.PradeepParate, DDM NABARD Washim. The otherdignitaries attended the meeting includesDr.R.L.Kale, (Programme Coordinator KVK),Mr.R.S.Daware, (SMS Plant Protection) andrepresentative from various banks.

At the out set Mr.R.A.Nitnaware, ProjectManager presents the progress report oflast quarterandproposed next quarter action plan of the project.Dr.Pradeep Parate expressed satisfaction towardsthe work done by KVK under this project and gavevaluable suggestion with reference to strategies tobe adopted in future for achievement of project

objectives.Mr.R.S.Daware deliveredlecture on technologies forseed production, IPM andother ptogrammes to beimplemented as a projectactivities. In the

coordinator presided over in the inaugural programmewhile Mr. T.S.Deshmukh, (SMS Agronomy) and Mr. R.S.Daware (SMS plant protection) were the guest of honour.

In the inaugural speech Dr. RL.Kale, emphasizedon activities carried out under various disciplines of KVKand urged fanners to adopt improved production,protection techniques. He explained the importance of croprotation and appealed the fanners to take rabijowar. He hasshown the power point presentation on jowar productiontechnology.

During technical session Mr.T.S. Deshmukh guidedfanners on crop production technology for the wheat &Gram crop. He told fanners to use improved diseaseresistant varieties and also advised on pre-sowing seedtreatment, management of irrigation, weeding andharvesting.

Mr. RS. Daware delivered lecture on variousdiseases, pests of wheat and gram crop. He advised farmersto use integrated pest management in crop by using birdperches, light traps and pheromone traps.At the ending session fanners raised various crop relatedqueries with experts. The programme concluded with voteofthanks proposed by Mr. RS. Daware.
