Page 1 of 6 PRINCIPAL’S COMMENT Today is National P&C Day, and we are celebrating the hard-work, commitment and dedication of our many P&C volunteers over the past years. We are taking the time today to say a heart-felt thank you to each and every mum, dad, carer, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle and friend in our school community. Each class has made and displayed a sign or poster, either at the front of the school or in the assembly area, to say thank you from the students. The staff and students are very aware of how fortunate we are to have so many people who support the school and who are willing to work together for the benefit of our students. THANK YOU! School Plan At Beechwood Public School we are in the final year of our current School Plan, 2018-2020. The change, improvement or innovation outlined in the school plan is driven by two strategic directions: 1. Creating successful learners 2. High quality teaching The final year of a school plan is an incredibly busy and exciting time. The plan is dynamic and responsive, and pathways toward success may be altered, paused or changed for a variety of reasons. All staff have been involved in a variety of professional learning opportunities and we have continued to build upon our wellbeing, welfare and curriculum provision. Attendance As I have mentioned previously, late last year our school had an attendance audit. As a result, we have needed to make some minor adjustments to our attendance procedures. Late arrivals and early leavers: please ensure if your child is arriving at school after 9.00 am that you accompany them into the school office to be signed in. When leaving early, please first see the school office for a slip, then collect your child from their classroom. Your child’s teacher will need the slip to add to their files. Vol. 35. School Plan At Beechwood Public School we are in the final year of our current School Plan, 2018-2020. The change, improvement or innovation outlined in the school plan is driven by two strategic directions: 1. Creating successful learners 2. High quality teaching

The final year of a school plan is an incredibly busy and exciting time. The plan is dynamic and responsive, and pathways toward success may be altered, paused or changed for a variety of reasons. Principals’ Induction Conference Evidence around the world shows that investing in leadership at all phases of a school leader’s career will make a substantial difference to the quality of teaching and therefore the quality of student learning in our school. From the 19 to 21 February, I had the pleasure of attending the Principal Induction Conference in Sydney delivered by the Department of Education School Leadership Institute. This conference provided engaging, relevant and significant professional learning. This included leading high-quality teaching and learning across the school, enhancing student wellbeing strategies and ensuring that in our school community, every child is known, valued and cared for.

I was reminded of the importance of modelling lifelong learning to my staff and students. Conferences of this nature enable me to focus on quality teaching and leadership practices that have the greatest impact on teacher learning and therefore the outcomes of our students.

Communication Update We are always looking at ways of improving our communication with all members of our school community. Over the past few weeks Mrs King has been updating our school website, including adding several school practices and procedures documents. You can now view our school procedures around student leadership (School Parliament), school uniform, attendance and our anti-bullying plan. We will continue to add to these throughout the year as they are completed. Another area that you will see some changes in over the coming months will be this school bulletin. I have tasked Mrs Reid and Mrs King with the job of ‘revamping’ our bulletin with a new look and feel. Alongside that, we are doing our best to minimise paper usage across our school, so starting in Term 2 our school Bulletin will be paperless. The bulletin will be uploaded to our school website along with the SkoolBag App. This, along with my weekly ‘This Week at a Glance’, should keep you informed and up to date.

The cooking club has thoroughly enjoyed the cooking experiences we have had. Students have been very responsible with cutting and moving around the kitchen. Groups have been very inclusive with all members being given a role by the group leader.

Thank you to parent helpers, who oversee and check measurements but allow the students to do all the preparation and clean up themselves. Please contact the office if you are available to help any Monday from 12.50pm until about 2pm. Our fabulous creations will be for sale at the canteen the next day. Keep an eye out for announcements of what you can purchase.

Happily, I have already been told that a student made the Zucchini slice, he learnt how to make it in cooking club, for his family for dinner. They LOVED it!

If anyone has any garden produce they can donate to the cooking club, we will try to incorporate this into our recipes.

Happy, healthy cooking! Mrs Mc

Last Thursday, we were fortunate enough to have a visit from some of the team members of the Canterbury Bulldog’s. These players spoke to our students about the importance of ‘Respect’ and how it plays a big part in their personal and professional life. Miss Pollard – Class Teacher
