Hi from Nat’l. Chevy, It’s mid-September, the leaves are changing, nights are cooling down, but days have still been in the low 80s. Fall has arrived. We have been working on some new kits for the cars – some are working good, others not so much. But we keep trying and hopefully will have good results. We’ll also have some new small parts like 1949-52 and 1953 & 1954 door handle retainers, 1949 hood emblem, 1949-52 emergency brake handle, and a 1953-54 chrome emergency brake han-dle. I just learned we’ll be out of stock on 1953-54 4-door sills until around Thanks-giving, so if you’re waiting, please be patient. Pricing and parts numbers for the new items will be available soon. Call if you need more info. I also just received notice that the 1949-52 rear gravel pan is now available. I don’t have a part number yet, but the prices will be $200.00. If you need one, they should be in stock by the time you re-ceive this. Business has been pretty busy but the season is almost over. It gives us a chance to catch up and ready for more orders. Thanks for the pictures that you’ve been sending me. I hope more of you can send some. Time to go. I’m working on a new catalog that hope-fully will be ready in the spring. ‘Til next time......

I own three 1954 Chevys: one chopped 210 Sedan; one BelAir with post; and one convertible, body is on frame & running, body is painted black laquer paint. I need to paint doors and front clip. I’ll send more pictures later. I owned my first car when I was 15 years old. Now I’m 50. Maybe by the end of 2013 the Convertible should be on the road. Then I’ll sell my pink salmon Chevy after that.

Cover Car Well, after years of playing with this car, it is finally to this point. I bought the car back in the late 80’s for $450. I put about 40 hours into it and then drove it daily. I then decided to make a third brake light out of a ‘53 tail light on it’s side facing to the rear and a ‘54 outer bezel to the front that sports a ‘55 Chevy hood emblem. 1961 Chevy hubcaps are on the 14-inch wheels. After that, I made a custom grille out of a ‘53 outer grille shell. I then furnished it with alternating ‘53 and ‘54 teeth. For $50 I found a fake continental kit off a ‘55 Ford and molded it to the trunk. The “CHEVROLET” script on the spare tire carrier was bent from a ‘53 dash script. Since we had kids on the way, seat belts were also installed from a S-10 pickup. For the past 7 years it was stored. As I am about to run for the position of Sheriff, I decided that this would be a great advertising car. I got it back out, got it running, then painted the doors white and had them decaled. On the right front fender is a 1947 6-volt siren. In front of the grille are two flashing red lights. The left side spot light also has a red lens added to it. To top it all off, there is a 102-inch whip antenna attached to the rear bumper and a 1947 MOTOROLA police radio. I knew that this car would get people’s attention, but I had no idea that it would get this much. At shows, I have a continuous loop of four different pursuits I have been in. Since my current radio number is on the doors, you hear 50-6 in action. That catches a lot of people off guard, but keeps their attention at the same time. Everyone comes over to the car at shows. Parades are the next step and with a new aluminum radiator and an electric fan from NCA, along with a new gas tank, I think that the car is more than ready for another life of patrol.

Rob AverbeckLewiston, MN Good luck on that Sheriff’s position. – NCA

The day the ‘53 was delivered.

1953-54 “Recirculating Heater & Defroster

We thought you might find it interesting to learn that the 1953 and ‘54 Chevrolets came equipped with 2 different types of heaters. By far, the most common heater we see is the “deluxe” air flow heater. (But we live in Minnesota!...) The “recirculating” heater is seen a lot more in areas of the country with a little bit warmer climate. The heater control valve was simply a “petcock” type of valve that was screwed into the water pump. (Close it in the spring, open it in the fall!) The “air flow” heater uses a heater control valve that is mounted inside the car, and opens and shuts itself as the temperature inside the vehicle changes.

The other primary difference between the two types of heaters is that the airflow heater uses outside air to warm the car, where the recirculating heater has no fresh air inlet. (It just recirculates the air inside the car.)

Make sure you know what type of heater you have, if the need arises to order parts. The deluxe heater uses a rectangular heater core, which we have in stock. The round heater core/motor assembly is pretty scarce...at least in our area of the country.
