This “corner” marks the start of a new year, one in which I hope will be very successful and fun for the Sierra Shadow Casters. The New Years Eve party not only welcomed in the arrival of 2006, but also said goodbye to 2005 in outstanding S.S.C. fashion. Consensus from everyone attending the festivities, some 60 to 70 people, was “great kick ass party.” To the people that made this happen I would like to give my sincere thanks for all the hard work. I would especially like to thank my wife Joyce for her outstanding effort in spearheading the food which was awesome, and in her untiring effort in the cleanup that started at about 1:30 and continued until about 2:45 am. I also want to thank Paula Hall and her sister Cathy for giving Joyce the necessary help that it took to make the party happen, from food prep to decorations; awesome job ladies. Thanks to Mirriam for the loan of some necessary hardware and table cloths, etc. and to Paul Hall for his help and great collection of photos that were posted throughout the banquet room for everyone’s viewing pleasure. There were some choice pictures of get-togethers and events that S.S.C. members participated in during the past year. If you weren’t in any of the pictures you probably weren’t at the New Years Eve party to view them anyway. Also thanks to the late, late, night owls, of which were very few, that stayed to help with the cleanup, namely, Rod Dixon, Rex Fouch and Paul Hall. To all these people my sincere thanks, a job very well done. To all of you who missed this event, what can I say, maybe start planning on it now, for next year. Mark it on your calendar, it’s the night of the last day of the year, 2006!

Ride safe and “ride for others,” Michael, President S.S.C.M.C.

Sierra Shadow Casters ended 2005 in regal fashion. Over 70 members and guests attended our New Year’s Eve Party at the Best Western in Mariposa. Those gathered enjoyed great food, great music and dancing, and had a great time. So much so, that it has been decided to make this an annual event! Just as importantly, there were no mishaps, accidents or incidents. What follows is a pictorial account of this memorable evening:

Here The Smocks and the Hansons are presented with “The Most Accommodating” certificates for their efforts though out the year in helping to make Club events run smoothly.

Gerd Stoecker is presented with a Recognition Cer-tificate for having made the most Breakfast Runs in 2005.

Rod and Carolyn Dixon are recognized as the “Most Active New Member In 2005” This energetic couple wasted no time getting their bike in gear and making every major SSC event since they joined last July. Not to mention, their help at these events!

As a little “aside” presenta-tion PA guy, Paul Hall springs an appreciation card on Michael signed by virtu-ally every club member thanking him for just being Michael and all he’s done to keep the SSC going strong. Joyce, club VP looks on in admiration of her sweetie!

Little did Joyce know that she was next! Paula and Paul presented her with a bouquet of roses and n behalf of the other members thanked her for being the “real” driving force behind the club as she keeps the Prez in line!!

The next morning SSC dignitar-ies presented Steve Knauf, owner of the Pizza Plus restau-rant with a Recognition Certifi-cate (as Steve couldn’t make the party.) Steve was recog-nized as “Most Supportive Non member” for his efforts over the year supporting SSC events.

Joyce and Paula present the Best Western staff with a bouquet of appreciation flowers for their help and pa-tients.

The first Biker Brunch of 2006 started at the Hitching Post on January 7th. Although a light group, we enjoyed a beautiful day with perfect weather. At 9:30 am, we departed for the Buck-horn Saloon in North Fork. The Grill offered prime rib, anyway you liked it, and several members ordered this delight. I guzzled down a breakfast burrito. Mark Aston showed up with his new Harley. This baby has all the extras; including road grit resulting from a pre-dawn sprinkle. Nasty parking is the only complaint.

The Biker Brunch By Bill Leidenroth

I thought I might offer this link for our list of parts houses and as a source for bikers to post their bikes and meet and talk too others with the same bikes. I posted on this site (Randel52) over a year ago and have done a lot of buying through their outlet in Livermore Ca. (local so to speak) check out the site and tell me what you think. From Honda to Harley and everything in between a great resource and I have meet others and talked to them about parts and fitment and reviews on products. give me a call if you what more info or I can tell you more details. During the winter months ahead the only gatherings for our club will most likely be our Biker Brunches. In an effort to please everyone, which, unfortunately, is impossible, we will schedule our first monthly Brunch on either the first or second Sunday. Our second Brunch will be held on either the third or fourth Saturday. Due to colder weather and the real possibility of black ice, we will be starting later in the day and will probably be going to lunch rather than breakfast. Your input is always welcome and suggestions will be seriously considered. However, let's try to keep our winter destinations above the fog and below the snow. Please email me at [email protected] with some suggestions. Thanks for your help, Bill

Rider of the Month

Featured Rider: Mirriam Wackerman It is hard to believe I have been a Mariposa resident for 32 years now. Upon arrival as a young teen, my thoughts were to finish High School and then get out of Dodge! The truth is, however, that I fell in love with the foothills in a matter of months. I still, upon graduation, did leave for 2 years. I’ve been back ever since knowing this was where I wanted to raise my family. I have two sons and one daughter, Jake 24, Michael, 22 and Lisa, 18. Being their mother has been one of the most wonderful parts of my journey through this world. The gift they are to me continues to give as I watch them move on into adult hood. I think most of you know my sweetie Jim Platto. He is the other gift in my life!! It is wonderful to have a partner you can ride a motorcycle with and belch in front of. I worked at Charles St. Dinner house for 23 years. While still employed there, I started my own business called, Simply Savoury Personal Chef & Catering. A desperate move triggered by necessity to earn more income for my children and me. It worked! And eventually I was able to leave Charles St. Dinner House & be fully self-employed. However, the dream of my own restaurant was still looming in the shadows of my mind. A few more years would pass before I would bring that dream out of the shadows. At last the right spot was available and I knew it was time, after much deliberation. I knew all to well that owning a restaurant would be a train ride I would never got off of once I bought the ticket and boarded. So now I have another baby in my life called Savoury’s Restaurant. This child, however, will never fully grow up. I tell guests that it is finally at the playpen stage and I can leave it with a sitter, but not for to long, as it is a very demanding little child. What a journey this has been. I am a very fortuitous woman having an occupation that I love! I have been a SSC member since its inception and am happy to be associated with this organization that came to be as a result of Michael and Joyce Dobson’s vision. I applaud them for there countless hours that have gone into making the Shadow Casters the fun loving and very giving club it is. I look forward to riding in 2006 with all you Si-erra Shadow Casters and my sweetie of course.
