    What is JJAP?

TheJapanese Journal of Applied Physics (JJAP)has been publishing crucial information onadvanced research topics in applied physicssince 1962. JJAP has grown as an internationaljournal and is currently widely circulated inmore than 50 countries around the world. Thecitation rate for published papers is rankedhigh among international journals in the field ofapplied physics. JJAP covers not only allaspects of modern technology, such as semicon-ductor devices, high-temperature superconduc-

tors, and magnetic recordings, but it alsocovers diverse areas such as plasma physicsand particle accelerators. Articles in the inter-disciplinary areas with potential technologicalimplications are strongly promoted.

    NEWS

JJAP Express Letterskeeps you rightup-to-date with all the latest researchin Applied Physics

Since our new section, Express Letters, wasintroduced in April 1998 in JJAP Part 2, wehave attracted numbers of articles containingimportant new data and we have created arapid-response publication system* whichguarantees publication in no more than 45days. (*from the date of receipt to the date ofpublication.)In 1998, the average publishing period was infact even faster, just 37 days.

Papers in the Express Letters section are re-viewed in consideration of the following: If thepaper deserves urgent publication, written incorrect standard English, scholarly and wellstructured. Papers accepted, pass immediatelyon to the production stage, to be published inthe earliest issue of JJAP Part 2: Full text of allExpress Letters are also published in theJJAPOnline.

HyperlinksJJAP Online has started mutual reference linking withAPS, AIP and IOPP. Since May 1999, JJAP Online hashyperlinks to journals; J. Appl. Phys.; Appl. Phys. Lett.;Phys. Rev. A to E; Phys. Rev. Lett.; J. Opt. Soc. Am. A &B; Opt. Lett. and J. Phys. Soc. Jpn.

NotesYou will find hyperlinks only to articles available online.

Requirements for access to hyperlinks depends on therules of individual journals.

Free Access Service toJJAP Individual Subscribers

A free access service to the SPIN database (SearchablePhysics Information Notices) is available. SPIN is abibliographic database of the most current abstractsfrom over 80 journals published by the AmericanInstitute of Physics. By accessing this service, you will getthe benefit of JJAP Online and the SPIN Database.

    JJAP PUBLICATIONS

JournalsPart 1 (monthly) -Regular Papers, Short Notesand Review PapersBesides regular papers and short notes, Part 1 includes review papers for thesubjects of recent interest in applied physics, authored by leading scientists.Publication usually takes place five months after papers are received. Inaddition, several special issues are published each year. These containmonographs published at international conferences, and up-to-date findingsby research groups. (List of special issues is availabe at http://

Part 2 (bimonthly) Letters and Express LettersThis section is intended for the rapid dissemination of important new researchresults. Publication following the receipt of a paper usually takes place within90 days for Letters and 45 days for Express Letters. According to dataobtained from the SCI Journal Citation Reports 1997 (ISI, Inc.), the impactfactor of Part 2 is ranked 6th out of 62 journals in the field of applied physics.Part 2 can be purchased separately.
