For 2020, St. Bernards is striving to hit a 4-STAR rating on all categories regarding the patient’s overall experience with the HCAHPS Patient Survey.

Overall Rating: 3-Star

GOAL

Hospitals can be a confusing setting for patients and their families. St. Bernards is no exception to this with the many changes and additions our medical center has seen throughout the years. While we have signage in place to help guide our visitors, the best way we can help ease their anxiety is by helping them find their way.

As employees of St. Bernards, we are expected to assist guests who appear to be lost when walk-ing down the halls by escorting them to their des-

tination. If we are not able to escort at that time, then we should hand them off to another employee that is able to assist.

Everything makes a difference to our patients and guests. You never know what someone's situation is and, by escorting, we can help alleviate some of that stress of being in the hospital.

IMPORTANCE OF ESCORTING Called to S.E.R.V.E.

Donors can choose to give through payroll deduction by selecting the amount they would like to give each pay period. Giving through payroll deduction allows you to give a little bit at a time while joining with others at St. Bernards who do the same. Those who donate will be entered to win a pair of Apple Air Pods!

If you refer someone for the “Job of the Week” and the candi-date is hired within a month, we will reward you with $250! St. Bernards employees must refer an external applicant to receive the $250, and the St. Bernards employee’s name must be on the application as the referral source. The $250 will be awarded once the new hire has been with St. Bernards for 90 days. If the applicant lists multiple internal references, the bonus will be shared between the referral sources.

Environmental Services Melissa Mashburn is always up and at it to clean the Emergency Department. She helps if someone needs it also tries to keep our hallways clean and the restrooms smelling fresh and clean. She really does care and we want to thank you here in the ED. The Emergency Department Team

Physical Therapy I was unable to get a discharged patient into car due to an old stroke they suffered from. After 30 minutes of try-ing, I called Physical Therapy for help. Fisher Wood came down to help! He along with Tim McNatt were able to get this patient in their car. I really appreciate Physical Therapy and all they do for their patients and the extra they do for staff. Diane Andrews, 2 Main

Telemetry As we were working to get 2 West ready to take observation patients several of the nurses were unsure how to work the telemetry monitors. Amanda Bell was extremely helpful and willing to come show the nurses how to work the systems for patients. She went out of her way numerous times, and took the time to help us, even though she didn't have to. She ensured the nursing staff felt comfortable to provide the safest care for these patients, while always doing it with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. That's really going above and beyond. Great teamwork spirit. She deserves 10 bravos. Cindy Daffron, 1 Main

My oldest daughter, Brynn, was diagnosed with cancer when she was 3 1/2 years old. The chemo stopped the cancer, but it caused significant brain damage. My husband and I were doing intensive ther-apy with her 7 days a week to try to help her regain some of her function. It was more than the two of us could handle. People from our community stepped up to help us. Neighbors, friends, church family and com-plete strangers were at our house three times a day seven days a week. Most of them helped with therapy, some watched our oth-er kids, and some helped with housework or cooking. The outpouring of love and help was a gift from God. We eventually moved away from that community.

When I was ready to re enter the workforce, I wanted to do something that would allow me to pay it forward. I couldn’t go back and re-pay those who had helped my family during a very difficult time, but I could try to help others. Nursing was the field that best fit my goal of helping others. I’ve never regretted becoming a nurse. In fact, sometimes I wish I could have done it sooner. There are angels among us everyday. Some days they’re here to help us. Some days they use us to help others. These days, the angels are in overdrive and so are we. I know every-one is exhausted and just plain over this COVID mess, but someday we’ll look back and realize how much of a blessing each and every one of us has been to others. Every day that you show up to work, you’re someone’s blessing.

Sessions will be held via Zoom on October 1 or October 15 at 11:00 am. Register today by calling 870-351-6831 or 870-530-0756. We are looking forward to hosting these groups in October!

Fun Things to Do with Family During COVID We recently made a cause and effect chain re-action course around our house. We used domi-noes, PCP pipe, marbles and other household items. We then set it off causing a little bell to ring at the end. My kids had a lot of fun coming up with creative ideas and constructing the course.

Shala Riney, Denials Management

One night we held a glow-in-the-dark paint party with our daughter. We bought glow-in-the-dark paint and canvas at Hobby Lobby and then set up a black light to help make it glow. My daugh-ter had an absolute blast doing this and we had fun paintings to keep afterwards.

Tiffany Horton, Employee Engagement

We did lots of tie-dye this summer and even did some reverse tie-dye using bleach.

Jill McBride, NICU

Make a jewelry necklace with a clip to use for masks. My granddaughter and I used beads, necklace string and clips from Hobby Lobby.

Zepha McMullen, Employee Wellness

Create a slip-and-slide with tarps and a water hose going down a hill. You can use shaving cream on the tarp to make it fun with foam and make the kids smell awesome.

Angela Benson, Employee Wellness

My boys and I took heavy whipped cream and placed it in a jar with a tight lid. We shook it vigor-ously for 10 minutes until it formed a solid ball—we made butter! We had a blast doing this and en-joyed getting to make toast with own delicious home-made butter. It was the best better we had eaten in years!
