GospelJesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not imagine thatI have come to abolish the Law or theProphets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them. I tell you solemnly, till heavenand earth disappear, not one dot, not one littlestroke, shall disappear from the Law until itspurpose is achieved. Therefore, the man whoinfringes even one of the least of thesecommandments and teaches others to do thesame will be considered the least in thekingdom of heaven; but the man who keeps
them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven.
‘For I tell you, if your virtue goes no deeper than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you willnever get into the kingdom of heaven.
‘You have learnt how it was said to our ancestors: You must not kill; and if anyone does kill hemust answer for it before the court. But I say this to you: anyone who is angry with his brotherwill answer for it before the court; if a man calls his brother “Fool” he will answer for it beforethe Sanhedrin; and if a man calls him “Renegade” he will answer for it in hell fire. So then, if youare bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother has somethingagainst you, leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first,and then come back and present your offering. Come to terms with your opponent in good timewhile you are still on the way to the court with him, or he may hand you over to the judge and thejudge to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison. I tell you solemnly, you will not get outtill you have paid the last penny.
‘You have learnt how it was said: You must not commit adultery. But I say this to you: if a manlooks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your righteye should cause you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose onepart of you than to have your whole body thrown into hell. And if your right hand should causeyou to sin, cut it off and throw it away; for it will do you less harm to lose one part of you thanto have your whole body go to hell.
‘It has also been said: Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal. But I saythis to you: everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of fornication, makes her anadulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
‘Again, you have learnt how it was said to our ancestors: You must not break your oath, butmust fulfil your oaths to the Lord. But I say this to you: do not swear at all, either by heaven, sincethat is God’s throne; or by the earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is thecity of the great king. Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hairwhite or black. All you need say is “Yes” if you mean yes, “No” if you mean no; anything morethan this comes from the evil one.’

For thosewho prefer to pray and reflect privately at home, I have also ordereda small reflection booklet to help you explore the richness of theScriptures in the serenity of your home. These small booklets will beavailable next Sunday for $5.00 each. This is a discount price and itwill help the parish greatly in paying for the bulk order. I have ordered150 copies. World Day of Prayer at St Michael’s,Friday 6th March at 11am. Every year World Dayof Prayer calls us to learn about a different coun-try & pray for its people. This year it is the coun-try of Zimbabwe & Christians there have preparedthis year’s service, which we have the privilege ofhosting at St Michael’s on the same day there willbe services of prayer around the world.The theme chosen for this year is “Rise! Takeyour mat and walk!” as we join in prayer formothers & their disabled children in Zimbabwe.

Mass to Formally Open the Cause of Beatification and Canonisation of Servant of God, Eileen O’Connor
The co-founder of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor, Eileen O’Connor has taken a major step forward to becoming Australia’s second saint after the Archbishop of Sydney, Most Rev. Anthony Fisher OP called on Catholics to submit evidence to support Eileen’s cause for canonisation. You are invited to a Mass which will formally open the cause. Thursday 20 February at St Mary’s Cathedral. 5:30pm Celebrant: Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP All Welcome.
