Medicinal Mushrooms (Part 2)For Cancer Care and Prevention

November 2015

In This Issue:

Heroes Against Cancer Community Newsletter

I n last month’s newsletter, I had the opportunity

to introduce our loyal subscribers to three

medicinal mushrooms that science has shown

possess unique healing properties and amazing

anti-cancer potential. In Part 2 of this powerful

series, I’m excited to introduce you to four more

mushrooms that I believe will help you and your

family to stay healthy and cancer-free.

Historically speaking, mushrooms have been used

medicinally by civilizations dating back thousands

of years. So what I’m about to share with you isn’t

without empirical precedence. Ancient cultures relied

on healing fungi for all sorts of therapeutic purposes,

and only in the modern age have mushrooms

somehow been downgraded from natural healing

medicine to merely a food ingredient.

But the good news is that there’s a resurgence of

scientific interest taking place on the mushroom

front. I’m here to tell you that there’s a lot to be

gained health-wise from learning what the latest

science has to say about these peculiar but amazing

organisms. The information I’m about to share with

you is critical as far as cancer prevention is

concerned, so pay attention: your health and well-

being could depend on it!

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus)As I explained in Part 1, medicinal mushrooms are

“superfoods” by nature, meaning they’re densely

packed with many of the most important things

your body needs to stay optimally healthy:

macronutrients, micronutrients, antioxidants,

vitamins, and minerals. They’re a cut above most

other foods, possessing some of the world’s highest

known levels of immune-boosting compounds.

The chaga mushroom, also known scientifically as

Inonotus obliquus, is no exception. This unusual

polypore mushroom is regarded by the respected

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Integrative

Medicine Service as a traditional healing remedy

that modern science has affirmed both stimulates

the immune system and kills cancer cells.

Included among chaga’s scientifically-backed health

benefits are its ability to prevent and treat cancer;

stimulate immune function; reduce chronic pain

symptoms; support gastrointestinal health; and

normalize cholesterol and blood pressure levels.

What makes chaga particularly amazing from an

immune perspective is its ability to masterfully

govern how the immune system responds to various

changing stimuli. When an immune boost is needed

to combat a harmful invader, the compounds in

chaga mushrooms know exactly what to do to get

the job done. When an immune response is too

strong (such as in the case of an autoimmune

disorder), chaga is also there to bring it back down

to normal levels.

In immunotherapeutic terms, this makes the chaga

mushroom a biologic response modifier, or BRM.

This is exactly what cancer patients need to kick

their natural immune responses into high gear to

eradicate the disease. Neither chemotherapy nor

radiation treatments are capable of exerting this

critical BRM response, which is what allows the body

to heal itself naturally via the immune system.

A 2011 paper published in the International Journal

of Medicinal Mushrooms sheds further light on this,

revealing that extracts of the chaga mushroom show

potent anticancer effects in vitro, stopping cell

tumors from reproducing, morphing, and spreading.

A few years prior, researchers from China identified

chaga extract as exhibiting powerful anti-

proliferative and apoptotic (programmed cell death)

effects in the human hepatoma (liver cancer) cell

lines HepG2 and Hep3B. Using some of the most

comprehensive diagnostic testing methods

available, researchers found that chaga extract

weakens cancer cells, prevents them from growing

and spreading, and even triggers their death.

In order to get the most out of chaga, you’ll need to

find an extract that contains the highest levels of the

mushroom’s most bioactive constituents, which

include key polysaccharides, triterpenoids, lanostane

phenolic compounds, and melanin. I recommend

the following two brands as top contenders:

The chaga mushroom grows on birch trees in cold Northern climates

thetruthaboutcancer.com 3pageNovember 2015

Dragon Herbs Wild Siberian Chaga is a concentrated,

powdered extract of chaga that contains 32 percent

chaga polysaccharides by volume. Studies have

shown that mushroom polysaccharides are what

most effectively drive the immune system to go

after cancer cells.

North American Herb & Spice Chag-o-Power wild

chaga extract is a raw chaga emulsion that boasts

highly bioavailable nutrients and some of the

highest natural levels of the antioxidant enzyme

superoxide dismutase (SOD). SOD is considered

one of the body’s “master” antioxidants that

minimizes cancer-causing oxidative stress.

If you live in the Northern hemisphere and have birch

trees in your area that have not been sprayed with

pesticides and/or other chemicals, you can also learn

how to identify and harvest chaga yourself for free!

A popular way to consume chaga is to break it into chunks and boil it to make chaga tea

Maitake (Grifola frondosa)Another medicinal mushroom worthy of

consideration is maitake. Similar in appearance

to a pinecone, maitake literally means “dancing

mushroom” in Japanese. As legend has it, ancient

Samurai would actively seek out this precious

fungi from deep within mountain forests. When

they found it they would jump for joy because of its

extensive healing capabilities.

The Maitake mushroom resembles a pinecone and is also known by the names hen-of-the-woods, ram’s head, and sheep’s head

Maitake mushrooms are a staple food in many Asian

cultures, and for good reason. They’re an amazing

anti-diabetic food that’s rich in disease-fighting

antioxidants. Maitake mushrooms also help regulate

cholesterol levels and have been shown in multiple

scientific studies to fight cancer tumors.

Just like chaga mushrooms, maitake mushrooms are

non-toxic, which means you can consume therapeutic

doses of them without having to worry about

harmful side effects. Maitake mushrooms also make

a great meat substitute.

As with chaga, maitake contains high levels of

immune-boosting polysaccharides that studies have

shown exert an immunomodulatory effect against

cancer. A 2009 human clinical trial published in the

Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology

reveals that maitake can help rid postmenopausal

women’s bodies of breast cancer cells.

Page 4: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 4pageNovember 2015

In a study, 34 postmenopausal breast cancer patients

were assigned to take daily liquid doses of maitake

at 0.1, 0.5, 1.5, 3, or 5 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg)

for three weeks. Peripheral blood samples from these

women were collected seven days prior to the study’s

launch, just before starting the protocol, and again at

days 7, 14, and 21 after its launch.

In the end, it was determined that maitake is a

powerful biologic response monitor much like chaga

that’s capable of both enhancing and inhibiting the

immune system, depending upon what the body

needs to fight a particular disease.

Maitake may also be an effective remedy for bladder

cancer. Researchers from New York Medical College

(NYMC) found that therapeutic doses of maitake

combined with vitamin C is a powerful remedy for

this common condition. Patients who took it saw a

90 percent death rate of their bladder cancer cells!

Vitamin C so enhances the cytotoxic bioactivity of

maitake that NYMC declared it to be effective as a

sole, rather than complementary, treatment for

bladder cancer.

Mushroom Wisdom Inc. makes an amazing liquid

maitake extract that contains highly concentrated

levels of proteoglucan compound D-fraction. This

powerful beta-glucan compound (a type of

polysaccharide), which is found in many medicinal

mushrooms, has been scientifically shown to fight

cancer tumors by activating immune system

macrophages, T cells, and “natural killer” (NK) cells.

Mary’s Herb Garden sells a liquid maitake tincture

that uses a special “double extraction” process to

capture maximum amounts of the mushroom’s

most potent immune-regulating nutrients.

Shiitake (Lentinula edodes)The shiitake mushroom ranks among the most

widely cultivated edible mushrooms in the world.

This East Asian fungi provides incredible immune

support as well, supporting healthy blood platelet

aggregation, as well as possessing powerful

antibacterial and antiviral properties.

Shiitake has been extensively studied for its role in

preventing cardiovascular disease, and also contains

special biological predecessors to a protein known

as interferon that inhibits viruses from replicating

and spreading throughout the body.

As with the other mushrooms previously mentioned,

shiitake mushrooms are rich in beta-glucans, a class

of long-chain polysaccharide compounds noted in

the scientific literature for being powerfully anti-

carcinogenic. Beta-glucans activate the body’s

complementary immune response system and

enhance its use of macrophages and natural killer

cells, which are critical for blocking tumors from

forming.

Although commonly used for food, shiitake mushrooms have powerful medicinal properties

Shiitake also contains a special sugar molecule

known as lentinan that’s been extensively studied

for its ability to enhance functions of the immune

system responsible for inhibiting cancer growth.

Lentinan was shown in a 2008 animal study,

Page 5: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 5pageNovember 2015

published in the journal Advances in Therapy, to help

improve the survival rates of patients with various

forms of cancer.

Lentinan also works to strip pathogenic bacteria

and viruses of their ability to proliferate, further

protecting the body against disease.

A human intervention trial conducted by researchers

at the University of Florida found that healthy

participants who consumed just one cooked shiitake

mushroom daily for four weeks experienced major

improvements in gamma delta T-cell functionality.

These same individuals also saw noticeable

reductions in inflammation, a leading cause of

cancer and other serious illnesses.

Japanese researchers conducted their own inquiry

into shiitake using mice as subjects. They came to

the same conclusion about lentinan: that it exhibits

strong anti-tumor benefits.

Mice given doses of a lentinan polysaccharide

preparation containing just 1 mg/kg of lentinan

(some were given much higher doses at 25 mg/kg)

experienced “almost complete” regression of tumors,

with no signs of toxicity.

In Japan, shiitake ranks among the top two

medicinal mushrooms used in alternative cancer

treatment (the other top mushroom is Agaricus

blazei, which I discussed in Part 1 of this series).

This says much about what this potent fungi is

capable of when it comes to supporting immunity.

One shiitake preparation I highly recommend is

Host Defense Shiitake Extract, a 100 percent certified

organic shiitake extract sold in liquid form. Host

Defense also sells a Shiitake Mushroom Patch that

you can grow at home! It contains select strains of

sterilized, fully colonized shiitake mushrooms that

can be harvested once every two weeks for up to

four months.

You can grow your own shiitake mushrooms at home with a mushroom patch

Fungi Health also offers a powdered extract of

shiitake that you can use to make your own tinctures,

tonics, teas, or even soups. Fungi Health also sells this

same powdered extract in capsule form.

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum)Arguably the oldest and most prized of the

traditional healing mushrooms, reishi is considered

in some cultures to be the “queen of mushrooms”

due to its incredible healing potential. For over 4,000

years, the reishi mushroom has held a special place

in the natural healing arts. Not only because it’s a

powerful immune booster, but also because it’s

adaptogenic and hormone balancing.

Adaptogens are non-toxic herbal compounds that

help the body respond and adapt to stress-inducing

stimuli. They work by normalizing and balancing the

adrenal glands to help minimize the effects of

disrupting life circumstances that would otherwise

take a major toll on the body, both physically and

Page 6: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 6pageNovember 2015

mentally. As stress is a notable contributor to chronic

diseases such as cancer, adaptogens are a critical

component of any anti-cancer regimen.

Reishi (also called lingzhi) are known as the “queen of mushrooms”

Reishi mushrooms also contain an exceptional

triterpene profile. Triterpenes help support and

regulate the endocrine system, which is your body’s

manufacturing system for hormones. Triterpenes are

ultimately what help give you energy during the day

and rest at night. They’re the wind in your sails when

you need to get things done, and the calming solace

you need when it’s time to de-stress, rest, and get a

good night’s sleep.

Numerous laboratory studies and pre-clinical trials

have found that reishi triterpenes show immense

promise in treating cancer by up-regulating the

immune system. Both laboratory and animal subjects

have confirmed the anti-cancer benefits of reishi.

Chemotherapy and radiation treatments deliver

non-targeted, systemic doses of lethal poison that

harm both healthy and malignant cells. Reishi, on

the other hand, is a non-toxic, selective anti-cancer

food that cancer patients have used with great

success!

In one study looking at its benefits for inflammatory

breast cancer (IBC), immunodeficient mice given

reishi extract for 13 weeks showed demonstrable

reductions in tumor growth and weight. These

benefits weren’t just limited to IBC. Reishi was found

to be a powerful natural therapeutic for many other

forms of cancer as well!

Since reishi is traditionally consumed as a brewed

tea, one of the easiest ways to incorporate it into

your diet is to buy an instant reishi product like

Four Sigma Foods Mushroom Drink or Mushroom

Coffee. Host Defense also sells a potent reishi extract

in capsule form that contains only the highest

quality freeze-dried, certified organic reishi.

The Raw Food World also offers a line of highly-

potent reishi spore products that, in my opinion, are

some of the best on the market. Each of these

products contains concentrated extracts of reishi

spores, the part of the mushroom that contains the

highest levels of anti-cancer, antiviral triterpenes.

Mushroom Supplementation: Choosing the One for YouWhile I’ve given you some of my top product

recommendations in each mushroom category, it’s

important that you understand the different ways

that mushrooms are prepared and sold, and how

each method stacks up in terms of potency and

bioavailability.

Mushrooms are typically sold in raw and extract

form (both as liquid and powder). Some mushrooms

are even sold “infused” into other food and beverage

products.

Raw mushrooms might taste great in food, but

believe it or not, this form isn’t the best way to

Page 7: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 7pageNovember 2015

unlock their diverse therapeutic benefits. Many of

the polysaccharides, antioxidants, and metabolites

found in medicinal mushrooms only become

“activated” through special extraction and

concentration methods that make them digestible

and maximize their bioavailability (like the products

recommended above).

Powdered mushrooms are better than raw

mushrooms in this regard, but they’re still not

the most potent when it comes to bioavailability.

Liquid mushroom extracts are typically the best,

as these have been subjected to solvent extraction

mediums such as hot water or alcohol that pull

all the nutrients out and concentrate them to

maximum potency. High-quality liquid mushroom

extracts will typically bear labels that clearly indicate

their nutrient content (i.e. “35% polysaccharides,”

or “15 mg ergosterols”).

Mushrooms can be dried and ground into powder form

Just to be clear, raw mushroom emulsions like the

Chag-o-Power liquid chaga product I recommended

above are still considered to be extracts. North

American Herb & Spice uses steam distillation

and spice extracts to extract the most beneficial

nutrients while leaving the enzymatic properties

of the mushroom intact.

Proper extraction methods such as steam

and alcohol are what unlock all the bioactive

components that make a mushroom medicinal.

So be sure to verify this before purchasing any

mushroom product not listed here.

Infusion is another option for taking advantage

of the health benefits of medicinal mushrooms.

Since mushrooms are common in traditional foods,

some manufacturers sell extracts that have been

infused into coffee or tea (I mentioned this earlier

with Four Sigma Foods).

Dr. Daniel Nuzum, who was featured in “The Quest

for The Cures” and “A Global Quest” will soon be

releasing an immune supplement with 6 medicinal

mushrooms (cordyceps, reishi, coriolus, maitaki,

shitaki, and agaricus) plus fucoidan (extracted from

seaweed). The supplement is called “7M” and is

manufactured by Epigenetic Labs. Based on Dr.

Nuzum’s successful history as a nutritional product

formulator, I can’t wait to try it, and I’m sure that

this will become the staple of my immune system

supplementation once it’s available to the public.

It’s also a good idea to check with product

manufacturers whether or not their mushroom

extracts have been purity tested for heavy metals,

radiation, and other environmental contaminants.

Mushrooms tend to accumulate these toxins

(especially from open-air soils), so I encourage you

to research and ask questions before buying any

mushroom products. When it’s your health on the

line, it always pays to do your homework!

By Dr. Daniel Nuzum, D.O., N.M.D.

Inflammation: A Main Cause of Cancer (Part 2)

A s I discussed at great length in Part 1 of

this two-part series, chronic inflammation

is a devastating health condition that’s

responsible for many of the most prolific diseases

afflicting modern man, including cancer. It often

hides in the shadows undetected, and by the time

it starts to show tangible symptoms, it’s typically

already developed into a more serious health

condition requiring critical intervention.

If you caught the first part of this series (pages 13-22

in the Oct HACC newsletter in your member’s area),

you already know that most conventional remedies

for chronic inflammation fail to address it at its root

cause. This explains why millions of chronically ill

people who suffer from inflammatory health

conditions are desperate for real solutions. You also

now know that increasing your dietary intake of

omega-3 fatty acids and reducing your intake of

omega-6 fatty acids is one solid way to help mitigate

the systemic inflammation that often leads to

chronic disease.

But there’s a plethora of other dietary and lifestyle

factors that impact your body’s inflammatory state.

And in keeping with the promise I made to you in

Part 1, I’ve unpacked these for you here in Part 2 so

you can make more informed choices concerning

the foods you eat, the supplements you take, and

even the mindset and thought processes you

subscribe to on a daily basis that could be harming

you physically.

Foods that Inflame: What to AvoidIn Part 1, I primarily addressed the issue of fats

and oils, divulging the “bad” kinds that you should

avoid to keep inflammation in check. I also provided

you with healthy alternatives that help combat

inflammation while nourishing your body with anti-

inflammatory nutrients like EPA (eicosapentaenoic

acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).

Now, I’d like to focus on other pro-inflammatory

foods and food ingredients that science has shown

are highly damaging to the human body. In nearly

every instance, these foods are heavily processed or

otherwise chemically modified to provide immediate

sensory gratification at the expense of your long-

term health.

Refined SugarThis includes common ingredients such as high-

fructose corn syrup (HFCS), “sugar” (which on

ingredient labels typically refers to the small, white

sucrose crystals we’re all familiar with), glucose-

fructose syrup, and even “evaporated cane juice,”

which is still a type of refined sugar.

Refined sugar is pro-inflammatory and contributes to weight gain, type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

Page 10: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 10pageNovember 2015

Fred Hutch (formerly known as the Fred Hutchinson

Cancer Research Center) warns that consuming

refined sugar is a major risk factor for weight gain

and obesity, type-2 diabetes, and cardiovascular

disease. Consuming refined sugar also contributes

to an increase in advanced glycation end-products,

or AGEs, a type of harmful protein that the immune

system tries to break apart by sending out

inflammatory cytokines.

GrainsMany people aren’t aware that grains contain “anti-

nutrients” like lectins and mineral-binding phytates

that provoke an inflammatory response in the body.

Traditional grain preparation methods like soaking

and fermenting help remove these substances, but

modern methods typically don’t.

A 2013 paper published in the journal Nutrients

found that anti-nutrients in cereal grains increase

intestinal permeability and provoke malabsorption

of both macro- and micronutrients. These triggers

initiate an inflammatory response that, over time,

causes systemic immune damage, which can result

in conditions like inflammatory bowel disease (IBS),

chronic fatigue, arthritis, asthma, and other health

conditions.

Wheat GlutenAlso a grain, modern wheat, and especially the

gluten it contains, tends to be highly inflammatory.

In many people, wheat gluten and other wheat

components like lectin provoke an immunoglobulin

E (IgE) allergic reaction that, over time, can snowball

in serious health conditions like asthma, Celiac

disease, rhinitis, and contact urticaria.

Research published in a 2013 issue of the Journal of

Nutritional Biochemistry found that removing wheat

gluten from one’s diet helps improve key factors

associated not only with weight gain but also with

fatty acid oxidation and lipolysis. Put simply, a

gluten-free diet helps improve blood sugar

homeostasis and minimize the expression of pro-

inflammatory molecules and receptors throughout

the body.

A gluten-free diet can help improve blood sugar levels and reduce inflammation

Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMOs)Biotechnology is everywhere these days – in food,

drugs, and even clothing! Most soy, corn, canola,

cotton, and sugar components and their derivatives

are now made from GMOs, and independent

research has confirmed that these substances are

an inflammatory nightmare.

Epidemiologist and biotechnology expert Dr. Judy

Carman has been researching GMOs for many years,

and she warns that these ubiquitous additives and

the chemicals with which they are sprayed provoke

inflammation of the stomach and intestinal lining,

and have repeatedly been shown in independent

inquiry to damage vital organs.

Are You Living an Inflammatory Lifestyle? This is by no means an exhaustive list. But it captures

Anxiety and DepressionSomewhat of a “which came first: the chicken or

the egg?” conundrum, anxiety and depression are

increasingly being linked to chronic inflammation.

Some research suggests that these mental

conditions are a cause of inflammation, while others

purport that they’re a result. In either case, your

frame of mind is intricately connected with your

physical mind.

Dr. Gary Kaplan is an osteopathic physician from the

Kaplan Center for Integrative Medicine in Virginia

who specializes in this particular field of study. His

conclusion, after combing through the evidence and

observing patients in his clinic who’ve come to him

with inexplicable depression, anxiety, and even

chronic pain, is that these conditions often result

from an underlying inflammatory condition, typically

in the brain.

Anxiety and depression are often linked to inflammation in the brain

These cerebral effects, he explains, are the result

of overactive microglia immune cells, which are

believed to be a driving factor behind increasingly

common health conditions like chronic fatigue and

insoluble pain symptoms.

interest of protecting your health. You should also

take note of your lifestyle habits, which may also

be contributing to systemic inflammation in ways

of which you’re not even aware.

StressResearch has shown that chronic stress literally

alters your immune system in such a way that your

immune cells think they’re fighting some kind of

trauma or infection – even when they’re not. When

these immune cells enter your bloodstream in

this altered state, they provoke an inflammatory

response that literally alters your genetic expression,

potentially leading to chronic disease.

An animal study published in the journal

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

found that a stressful lifestyle contributes to the

up-regulated production of pro-inflammatory bone

marrow monocytes, which circulate throughout the

body lighting inflammatory “fires,” so to speak, in the

arteries and vital organs.

Lack of SleepRest is important both for stress relief and systemic

healing. When you don’t get enough of it, your body

goes into overdrive by releasing many of the same

inflammatory cytokines associated with poor diet,

which is why it’s important to maintain regular sleep

cycles of at least six, and preferably eight, hours of

sleep every night.

Research published in the journal Best Practice

& Research Clinical Endocrinology reveals how

mediators of inflammation increase dramatically

when normal sleep patterns are disrupted. Even

just one full day of missed sleep can trigger this

inflammatory response, as can getting only four

hours of sleep in a night rather than eight.

Early Detection for Chronic InflammationDr. Kaplan’s hypothesis is a rational one based on

what we currently know about human physiology. If

chronic inflammation is characterized by an aberrant

immune response that damages bodily tissue over

time, which it is, then it only makes sense that

chronic inflammation of the brain results in systemic

damage there just as it does elsewhere throughout

the body.

Recognizing that the early stages of chronic

inflammation are often symptomless, it’s important

to catch this silent killer early and do something

about it before it’s too late. How is this done? Thanks

to advancements in modern medicine, we now have

effective diagnostic tools that enable us to identify

factors of inflammation so we can nip them in the

bud using the methods I’ll further outline below.

Specialized blood tests will look for factors of chronic

inflammation like high sensitivity C-reactive proteins

(hs-CRP), fibrinogen, tumor necrosis factor-alpha

(TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin-6

(IL-6), and interleukin-8 (IL-8). Many doctors will

also order blood tests that evaluate erythrocyte

sedimentation rate (ESR) and plasma viscosity, both

of which serve as monitors of inflammation.

Specialized blood tests are used to detect factors of chronic inflammation

Poor adrenal function, or adrenal fatigue, is another

indicator of inflammation. Your adrenal glands are

what regulate your body’s stress response, which I

early mentioned is a significant inflammatory factor.

The acclaimed Dr. Daniel Kalish recommends having

your adrenal function tested using a saliva and urine

protocol, or by undergoing a hair sample analysis

(along with the rest of his proven “Kalish Method”).

Dr. Kalish emphasizes the interconnectedness

of stress, adrenal function, cortisol levels, and

inflammation as part of his protocol, and I’m in full

agreement. In order to truly ascertain where you

stand, it’s important to not only identify inflammation

through proper testing, but also to bolster your

adrenal function which will help mitigate it.

Food and Lifestyle Solutions to Chronic InflammationIt’s also critical to make appropriate changes to

your diet and lifestyle, even if you don’t get tested.

Adopting an anti-inflammatory diet and anti-

inflammatory lifestyle habits is something every

individual should do as a matter of practice. After

all, prevention is the best medicine. Not treating

a chronic illness after it develops. Here’s what I

recommend to my clients in the categories of food,

lifestyle, and supplementation:

Food Earlier I warned you to avoid refined sugars, grains,

wheat and GMOs because these foods are pro-

inflammatory. This might seem daunting because

one or more of each of these is found in nearly

everything sold on grocery store shelves these days.

But if you have the time, and more importantly the

discipline, it’s not as difficult as you might think to

make better food choices.

Page 13: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

Rather than opt for “cheap” carbohydrates in the

form of processed grains and sugars, for instance,

instead choose complex carbohydrates in the form

of cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower,

Brussels sprouts), leafy greens, fermented vegetables

and other cultured foods, and “slow-burning”

carbohydrate foods like sweet potatoes.

Dr. Mark Hyman talks about this extensively in his

book Eat Your Medicine, noting that a majority of

one’s diet should be composed of low-starch, low-

glycemic vegetables that are rich in fiber. These

include the aforementioned greens as well as many

others including cucumbers, asparagus, and

dandelion greens.

Certain whole grains such as quinoa, amaranth, and

buckwheat (which doesn’t actually contain wheat,

by the way) may be an acceptable part of a healthy

diet, but only in very small amounts. The bulk of your

diet should be composed of:

• Complex carbohydrates from fresh, organic

vegetables and legumes.

The bulk of your diet should come from fresh, organic vegetables and legumes

• Clean protein from pastured, grass-fed, organic

meats; almonds, walnuts, and other nutrient-

dense nuts (preferably soaked or sprouted first

to make them more digestible); pastured eggs

(whole, not just the whites!); protein-dense

seeds like chia and hemp; wild fish (preferably

from remote areas of the ocean far away from

heavy metal pollution and radiation, i.e. the

Pacific waters near Fukushima in Japan); and

bone broth made from pastured, organic

animals.

• Fresh fruit is also acceptable, but again, make

sure it’s organic. Even more importantly, make

sure it’s the right kind of fruit. High-sugar fruits

like grapes and bananas aren’t as beneficial as

blueberries, for instance, which contain much

higher levels of anti-inflammatory compounds

and disease-fighting antioxidants.

Choose lower sugar organic fruits such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, or black raspberries which are high in antioxidants

Herbs and Spices No anti-inflammatory diet would be complete

without anti-inflammatory herbs and spices. Many

contain antioxidant phenols that help block

glycation and the formation of pro-inflammatory

advanced glycation end products, as well as help

repair the intestinal damage linked to chronic

inflammation.

Some of the top contenders include:

• Cloves - This effervescent spice ranks among

the most potent anti-inflammatory spices in

the world, according to a study published in

the Journal of Medicinal Foods.

• Ginger - One study suggests ginger is as strong

and effective as many non-steroidal anti-

inflammatory drugs, except without the harmful

side effects!

• Turmeric (curcumin) - This is one of the most

powerful medicinal herbs on the planet, and

one I believe belongs in everyone’s diet.

• Cinnamon - Cinnamon is loaded with powerful

antioxidants and may lower blood sugar in

people with diabetes.

The “cinnamon” sold in most grocery stores is usually not true cinnamon. Look for organic, non-irradiated “Ceylon” cinnamon

• Oregano - Numerous compounds in this

common cooking spice, including thymol and

carvacrol, help reduce levels of pro-inflammatory

cytokines.

• Marjoram - A study published in the American

Journal of Chinese Medicine found that this tasty

Mediterranean spice not only heals gastro-

intestinal ulcers but also repairs damage

intestinal walls. This is where pro-inflammatory

substances enter the body and cause serious

damage.

• Sage - Studies have shown that sage supports

healthy immune function and exhibits strong

anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also inherently

anti-cancer!

Lifestyle

Practicing healthy lifestyle habits goes hand-in-hand

with eating right. You can consume all the anti-

inflammatory foods and herbs in the world and still

be prone to damaging inflammation if you’re not

adhering to a healthy sleep schedule, for instance,

or if you’re constantly stressed beyond your body’s

capacity to overcome it.

My recommendation is to develop a healthy work-

life-sleep balance that’s consistent, and stick to it.

Healthy habits make for a healthy life, which is why I

recommend following these simple steps every day:

• Sleep at least eight hours every night and try to go to bed before 10 pm, if possible. Your

body’s rhythmic patterns are dependent upon

proper sleep, which is the time when your

immune system is regenerated and human

growth hormone (HGH) is produced.

• Exercise every day to get your blood pumping

and your hormones flowing. High-intensity

interval training not only helps improve

immunity and HGH production, but also helps

normalize blood pressure and blood sugar

levels.

Page 15: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 15pageNovember 2015

• Take the time to pray or meditate. Clearing

your mind of the stresses of the day and

focusing on the things you’re thankful for, for

instance, is a great way to set your body at ease

and minimize inflammatory stressors.

Daily prayer or meditation reduces inflammatory stress

What About Anti-Inflammatory Supplements? As a final note, I’d also like to recommend some

powerful dietary supplements with a proven anti-

inflammatory track record:

• Zinc has been shown to both lower systemic

inflammation and protect against cardiovascular

disease.

• Magnesium decreases C-reactive protein levels

and helps protect against metabolic disease.

• Gotu Kola is a “wonder” herb due to its anti-

inflammatory, antioxidant, and wound- and

tissue-healing properties.

• Melatonin is a natural hormone that your body

produces to induce sleep, but it also helps

improve injury recovery and muscle

regeneration, not to mention its ability to quell

chronic inflammation.

• Vitamin D offers so many health benefits that

it’s difficult to know where to start! But as far as

inflammation is concerned, this one is a must.

• Probiotics help regenerate intestinal microflora

that protect your intestinal lining against

inflammatory invasion.

• Resveratrol is a polyphenolic component found

in grapes and red wine that studies have shown

counteracts systemic inflammation.

• Essential Oils, and specifically those of thyme,

clove, rose, eucalyptus, fennel, and bergamot,

are scientifically proven anti-inflammatory

compounds that work better than NSAID COX-2

inhibitor drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen.

My hope is that this series on inflammation taught

you a lot about this important subject, equipping

you with the information and tools you need to

make positive dietary and lifestyle changes to

reduce your inflammatory risk and ultimately avoid

diseases like cancer. Stay tuned, as I’ll be tackling

other important subjects in future newsletters to

help you live your best life – disease-free!

What’s in Your Tap Water? Understanding & Minimizing Your Risk

of Carcinogens in Drinking Water

W hen most people get thirsty, they go

to their tap or refrigerator for a drink

of water without giving it a second

thought. But what if you discovered that what was

in the tap water you used every day for drinking,

cooking, and washing could potentially harm you?

Sadly, studies have found that potential cancer-

causing agents are in almost every municipal water

system in the US!

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), an

environmental watchdog agency, has done the

testing and the results are frightening. Out of 201

systems tested across 43 states, “probable human

carcinogens” were found in every sample tested.

That means that the chemicals used to clean and

treat the water for public consumption are harmful

- despite being declared safe for drinking by the very

government agencies who are meant to protect us.

The EWG wants the government to clean up its act,

our water treatment systems, as well as the sources

from which water is received. Removing known

sources of tap water pollution would lessen the need

for harmful chemicals such as chlorine being used

to treat our water. Contaminants in the water supply,

including organic particles from animals, fallen

leaves, etc., can react with chlorine and other

chemicals used during treatment to produce toxic

byproducts. These byproducts aren’t tested for, nor

are they monitored.

Manufacturing and Pharmaceutical Contaminants Found in Drinking Water Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is a disinfection byproduct

that is 1,000 times more toxic than chlorine. This toxic

chemical is used in the making of plastics, paint,

adhesives, textiles, printing ink, and much more.

There are no safe levels and DBP (along with other

cancer-causing phthalates such as butyl benzyl

phthalate (BBP) and di (2-ethyhexyl) phthalate

(DEHP) has been detected in drinking water samples

around the country.

Approximately 1 in 5 Americans are drinking water treated with toxic chloramine

Water treatment plants use a combination of

chemicals. The most toxic is chloramine, a blend of

chlorine and ammonia. Approximately 20 percent

of Americans drink water that’s been treated with

chloramine.

By Ty Bollinger

Page 22: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 22pageNovember 2015

The Environmental Working Group found “probable human carcinogens” in every water sample taken across 43 US states

The EPA says it doesn’t know whether chloramine

itself is carcinogenic, but their IRIS document for

NDMA, a DBP (disinfection by-product) of chloramine,

states that it’s a “probable human carcinogen.” In

reality, there are more than 600 DBPs of chloramine,

and little is known about most of them.

Here are other contaminants often found in drinking

water:

• HAAs – Haloacetic acids may cause liver disease

in test animals, but as a human carcinogen it’s

known to cause low birth weights, sperm

toxicity, and neurological issues.

• VOCs – Volatile organic compounds lead

to central nervous system issues, drowsiness,

and irritation of human skin and mucous

membranes.

• THMs – Trihalomethanes cause cancer in lab

animals and trigger the production of free

radicals in the human body and are associated

with bladder cancer, developmental problems,

and gestational dysfunction.

These tap water pollutants cannot be removed by

boiling, distilling, or evaporation. They also produce

vapors that can accumulate in small spaces such as

bathrooms and kitchens.

Other chemicals in our water supply are just as

disturbing and there may be hundreds, if not

thousands of them present in municipal water

supplies. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

only regulates nine pollutants but they represent

less than two percent of the unwanted chemicals

in the system.

In one report, over 100,000 man-made chemicals

were detected in the water from public treatment

systems. Other chemicals can include toxic

herbicides, pesticides, and pharmaceutical drugs

such as statins, anti-depressants, hormone

treatments (replacement therapy and contraception),

and antibiotics.

One source of water pollution is medication present in urine as well as unused drugs flushed down the toilet

That doesn’t even take into account the approved

mass fluoridation of our water supply that has been

linked to cancer and neurological deterioration by

hundreds of studies.

Page 23: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 23pageNovember 2015

The (Avoidable) Dangers of Fluoride in Our Water Supply For more than 50 years, much of the world (including

the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New

Zealand) has embraced a policy of lacing public

water supplies with a chemical substance known as

fluoride that mainstream dentistry claims is helping

to prevent tooth decay.

But the science seems to suggest that this policy is

not only outdated but woefully misguided, and that

fluoride may actually be a major risk factor in the

development of cancer and other health problems.

After pouring through the evidence myself, I’m

also convinced that consuming synthetic fluoride

chemicals via municipal drinking water is not the

best option if you’re trying to remain healthy and

cancer-free. The risks far outweigh any “perceived”

benefits, and yet most Americans who live in urban

and suburban areas have no choice but to drink

and bathe in water that contains what can only

be described as an industrial waste product with

a laundry list of potential health risks.

Cancer-Causing Toxins in Fluoride A 1936 issue of the Journal of the American Dental

Association stated that fluoride at the 1 ppm (part

per million) concentration is as toxic as arsenic

and lead. This is the exact amount of fluoride that

is dripped into municipal water supplies across the

USA! Fluoride inhibits enzyme activity, paralyzes

white blood cells, and causes collagen to break

down. Enzymes, the immune system’s leukocytes,

and collagen are all fundamental in fighting cancer.

And all three are adversely affected by fluoride.

Fluoride is the chemical byproduct of industrial

processes like phosphate fertilizer mining and

production. The fluoride gases released during

the manufacture of synthetic fertilizers used in

chemical-based agriculture are trapped by large

“wet scrubbers” that turn them into liquids and/or

powders, which are then hauled off to municipal

water departments to be injected into the water

piped into your home.

Sounds appetizing, right? This is the inconvenient

truth about fluoride that you won’t hear about in

the major media. But it’s an important primer for

what I’m about to explain to you concerning the

health effects of this noxious class of chemicals,

and how they differ from the earth-based fluoride

minerals found naturally in some water sources.

Some water contains natural sources of fluoride. This is not the same as the harmful fluoride added to many municipal water supplies

The synthetic fluoride chemicals added to many

public water supplies throughout the US come

in three forms: hydrofluorosilicic acid, sodium

fluorosilicate, and sodium fluoride. I won’t get into

the details of each of these, but suffice it to say that

all of them are entirely unnatural and pose serious

risks to human health.

The EPA, which regulates the use of fluoride in water,

is conflicted about its use. While admitting that

fluoride chemicals are derived from industrial waste,

Page 24: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 24pageNovember 2015

the agency maintains that the amounts of it used

in water are safe for human consumption. But even

some scientists at the EPA have raised objections

concerning its use, citing research showing that it

can be harmful even at the amounts used.

What you need to understand about fluoride is that

it’s not pharmaceutical grade, and does not undergo

any type of purification before being added to water.

This is problematic in and of itself because many

other harmful chemicals such as arsenic and lead are

oftentimes present in addition to the fluoride. These

chemicals, as you may already know, are both known

carcinogens.

The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) released

the results of tests it conducted back in 2000 on

fluoridated water, which found that up to 40 percent

of the fluoridation chemicals tested contained

detectable levels of arsenic. Some samples were

found to contain as much as 1.66 parts per billion

(ppb) of arsenic.

A 2009 study published in the Indian Journal of

Dermatology found that dermatofibromas, a type

of breast cancer tumor, are directly associated with

arsenic exposure. Based on the findings of this study,

the researchers involved declared that arsenic “may

represent the cause of the majority of cases of breast

cancer.”

Separate research has also identified fluoride

chemicals as corrosive agents in leaching lead

from piping. Lead, as you may already know, is a

recognized cause of brain damage and is linked

to lower IQ in children. Lead can also displace

important nutrients like zinc inside the body,

obstructing the normal enzymatic processes

necessary for proper cellular function and cancer

prevention.

Interesting to note, fluoride is also one of the

basic ingredients in both Prozac® (FLUoxetene

Hydrochloride) and Sarin Nerve Gas (Isopropyl-

Methyl-Phosphoryl FLUORIDE).

Ingesting Fluoride is a Recipe for Breast and Other Cancers The presence of both arsenic and lead in fluoride

chemicals is clearly problematic. But what about the

fluoride chemicals themselves? A closer look at the

scientific literature reveals that what you’ve probably

been told all your life about the safety of fluoride is

patently false.

Back in 1977, the International Society for Fluoride

Research (ISFR) released a quarterly report indicting

fluoride as a carcinogenic and mutagenic substance.

Fluoride builds up inside the body, it noted,

displacing beneficial nutrients such as iodine that

feed the thyroid gland and protect against disease,

especially cancers of the breast and thyroid. The

result is an onset of conditions including bone

cancer, thyroid cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer,

and others.

Dr. Dean Burk, the former head of the National

Cancer Institute (NCI), admitted that fluoridation was

responsible for some 10,000 cancer deaths, based on

the epidemiological research he conducted.

Many years later in 1990, the National Toxicology

Program (NTP), which is part of the National Institute

of Environmental Health Sciences, released a study

showing that male rats fed fluoridated water for two

years had an increased risk of osteosarcomas, a type

of bone tumor.

In more recent years, fluoride consumption has

been linked by researchers at Harvard University

to lowered IQ in young children. Fluoride has also

been shown to accumulate in the pineal gland,

a small gland inside your brain that produces

hormones, inhibiting the body’s production of

melatonin. Melatonin is an important hormone

for breast cancer prevention.

Researchers from Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) and China Medical University found strong indications that fluoride

may adversely affect cognitive development in children

On April 12, 2010, Time magazine listed fluoride as

one of the “Top Ten Common Household Toxins”

and described fluoride as both “neurotoxic and

potentially tumorigenic if swallowed.” In Europe,

fluoride is rarely added to water supplies. In Britain,

only about 10 percent of the population has

fluoridated water. It has been a controversial issue

there, with critics arguing people shouldn’t have

“medical treatment” forced on them. Truth be told,

in almost every country in the world (including the

USA), it’s against the law to “mass medicate” an entire

population with a substance that everyone admits

is toxic. However, in the US, we do it anyway.

Astonishingly, in 2011, the US Centers for Disease

Control (CDC) issued a report that admitted 40

percent of the children in America show signs of

fluoride poisoning. The CDC concluded that fluoride

levels need to be lowered in municipal water

supplies, reducing fluoride to 0.7 milligrams per liter

(the previous recommended upper limit was 1.2

milligrams per liter). Can you believe it? They actually

admitted that fluoride is poison!

Do you remember the huge volcanic eruption in

Iceland in 2010? According to BBC News (April 19,

2010): “The fluoride in the ash creates acid in the

animals’ stomachs, corroding the intestines and

causing hemorrhages. It also binds with calcium in the

bloodstream and after heavy exposure over a period of

days makes bones frail, even causing teeth to crumble.”

Removing Fluoride and Other Toxins from Your Water No matter how you look at it, fluoride isn’t beneficial

for your body. And if you’re trying to avoid cancer,

fluoride definitely isn’t something you want in your

food, your water, or any other part of your life -

including your toothpaste and mouthwash!

thetruthaboutcancer.com 26pageNovember 2015

Unfortunately, removing fluoride from water is

difficult due to its small ionic composition. The

average refrigerator or pitcher water filter simply

cannot capture it, so you need to look for other

options. Even most of the counter and under the

sink models don’t remove fluoride.

Bottled water is also not a foolproof option for

avoiding fluoride or any of the other toxins we’ve

discussed. Most of the water bottled in the US

comes straight from municipal water systems and

may be even more contaminated because of lesser

regulation. Bottled water may still contain

dangerous contaminants including nitrates, caffeine,

acetaminophen, and industrial chemicals. The plastic

bottles also contribute to environmental pollution

and can break down if exposed to direct sunlight,

infusing the water inside with even more toxins.

So what are the best ways to reduce your family’s

exposure to fluoride and other toxic chemicals in

drinking water? Here are my recommendations:

Buy a Quality Water Filter It’s not enough to simply funnel your tap water

through a basic Brita pitcher and call it a day. In

order to get as many contaminants out of your

water as possible, you’ll need a filtration method

that combines multiple advanced forms of media,

i.e. carbon, “activated” carbon, charcoal, ozonation,

and reverse osmosis.

A basic carbon filtration system will remove

chlorine, asbestos, lead, mercury, and even some

volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which include

things like paints, glues, and pesticides. But carbon

has a difficult time removing “inorganic” pollutants

such as arsenic, fluoride, and perchlorates (fuel and

fertilizers).

A good solution to this is to add another layer of filtration such as bone char, which can help

dramatically reduce fluoride levels in water,

according to the findings of a 2006 case study

published in the Journal of Water and Health.

If you can afford it, a whole-house water filtration system like those offered by Pelican Water Systems

will ensure that every drop of water running through

your home is purified to the maximum extent

possible.

If a whole-house filtration system isn’t an option

financially, consider investing in a smaller-scale,

best-in-class water purification system like Berkey

Filters, which offers an extensive line of home

drinking water filters, shower filters, portable filters,

and everything in between.

Another excellent option for your shower is the

Omica filter, which combines multiple forms of

purifying media including shungite (a rare form of

carbon), micronized zeolite, activated coconut shell

carbon, and a special copper/zinc blend to maximize

removal of chlorine, heavy metals, iron oxides, and

VOCs.

An Omica showerhead filter can remove many contaminants, but

does not remove fluoride

Page 27: Vol. 1, Issue 6 November 2015 Medicinal Mushrooms 2) For ... · PDF filemedicinal mushrooms that science has shown possess unique healing properties and amazing anti-cancer potential

thetruthaboutcancer.com 27pageNovember 2015

They might not be the cheapest options, but

reverse osmosis and distillation offer added

purification where these other filtration methods

lack. Both technologies capture hard-to-remove

chemicals like fluoride, arsenic, hexavalent

chromium, nitrates, and perchlorate, but they don’t

remove chlorine, trihalomethanes, or VOCs - hence

the need for the other filtration methods mentioned

earlier.

Purchase Purified Water If home water filtration systems aren’t in your

budget or aren’t feasible in your current lifestyle

context, the next best thing is to drink filtered or spring water, either bottled or from an advanced

filtration machine. Many natural food stores now

have full-service water machines that offer purified,

mineral-balanced drinking water that’s treated

through multiple stages of media.

FreshPure Reverse Osmosis Water is one best-in-class

example of this, offering some of the cleanest,

self-serve water for just pennies a gallon at natural

and organic health food stores nationwide, including

retailers such as Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, and

Earth Fare.

As I mentioned earlier, bottled water is not always

purified and has additional drawbacks. If you are

traveling or are forced to use bottled water, you can

check out the EWGs 2011 Bottled Water Scorecard

for more information on the best and worst bottled

waters.

More Ways to Reduce Your Exposure to Fluoride In addition to filtering your water, here are some

other steps you can take to reduce the amount of

fluoride in your body.

• A natural detox that includes the nutrient selenium will help stop the effects of fluoride

accumulation and flush it from your body. You

can find selenium in Brazil nuts (most highly

concentrated source), mixed nuts, sunflower

seeds, mushrooms, fatty fish and shellfish

(including sardines, oysters, tuna), liver, meat

and poultry, eggs, and cottage cheese. A good

food based selenium supplement is called

Innate Response. This is the selenium

supplement that my family uses each day.

• Tamarind (an ancient remedy in Ayurvedic

medicine) helps to flush fluoride buildup

through your urine when you use the leaves

to make a tea.

A 2002 study in India found that tamarind improved the excretion of fluoride

• Drink plenty of fluoride-free water and enjoy a dry sauna! This is an incredible method to

reduce toxins in your body overall because it

breaks them up from your fatty tissues so your

body can expel them.

• Switch to safer cookware. Non-stick cookware

concentrates the effects of fluoride and is a

known cancer-causing agent. Use stainless steel,

glass, or ceramic for safer cooking.

thetruthaboutcancer.com 28pageNovember 2015

• Avoid processed foods and beverages (especially soft drinks), which are

manufactured using fluoridated water. Choose

fresh, natural foods washed in filtered water

whenever possible.

• Use caution when choosing oral care products and either make your own or use brands without fluoride. Manufacturers of

fluoride-free toothpaste include: Auromere

Ayurvedic Toothpaste, Desert Essence

Toothpaste, Dr. Bronner’s All-One Toothpaste,

Jason Toothpaste, Nature’s Answer PerioBrite

Natural Toothpaste, and Spry Dental Defense

Toothpaste.

Make the switch to fluoride-free toothpaste

Making Drinking Water Safer for Everyone Current studies continue to prove that tap water

pollutants will have long-term effects on your overall

health and development. You must make a stand for

clean, uncontaminated water for your home and

family.

To determine if your city’s drinking water contains

synthetic fluoride chemicals, call your water utility

or look for a copy of your utility’s water quality report

online. This report will give you a breakdown of what

contaminants are present in your water, and let you

know how much fluoride is being added (or how

much is naturally present as calcium fluoride).

If your water does contain added fluoride, add your

voice to those looking to have fluoride removed

from your area’s drinking water. To find a concerned

citizen’s group in your area, Google “the name of your

city/town + anti-fluoride.”

Remember too, different areas will have different

chemical pollutants, so understanding what’s in

your water supply is important to determine the

best filters for your personal situation. Even if you

have a well, you must still be concerned about

the breakdown of piping systems as well as

contamination from run-off from manufacturing

or farming by-products in your area.

To recap, here are the best ways to ensure drinking water safety:

• Filter your water in as many ways as possible

• Store your water in glass containers versus

plastic

• Continue to lobby for stricter water regulations

in your area

You need water. You cannot survive without it. Make

sure you’re taking every step possible to ensure your

tap water is safe for you and your family to drink.
