The church can play a cardinal role in moulding a child.by being inducted into Sunday school; a child learns many hidden values of life. Generally, parents underestimate their toddlers as too small to go to church. John the Baptist recognizes the presence of Christ even when he was in his mother’s womb. The songs and prayers that a child listens to are imprinted in his mind, as potent seeds that would sprout in the near future. Moreover, it is better to straighten a plant when it is a sapling rather than trying in vain to straighten it, once it grows into a tree. Sunday school also helps in increasing a child’s biblical knowledge. You can also be rest assured of your child’s friend’s circle as all his Sunday school friends would be of ortho-dox background.
Before parents assume the role of preachers, it is imperative that they first become practisers. They need to be change that they expect to see in their wards. Parents need to maintain a healthy bonding amongst them before they preach to their children to live amicably. Remember that your petty feuds are being witnessed by your children. In many homes, the child assumes the role of a mediator between the warring parents. Let’s not forget that it was because of a dominating and cruel father that Adolf Hitler became a tyrant.
Special emphasis need to be give by parents as to how they go about to train their children. Children need the proper care of their parents as every step in their life so that they get the feeling that they have to individuals to bank upon. It’s noteworthy to see how an eagle trains its little ones to fly. When the mother eagle feels that the opportune time has come to teach her children to fly, she carries them on her wings to a height of 3000 – 5000 feet. From such a height, she drops the eaglet. The hapless creature starts to somersault and flap its wings. This procedure is repeated till the baby eagle learns to fly.
Similarly constant presence in the upheaval of your wards life plays a vital role. Be strict when required and lenient when not. T.V. viewing hours need to be fixed. Personal computer should always be kept in dining rooms rather than in your child’s room. Moreover keep a tab on the sites they surf. Never shout at your children as this would create a pressure cooker situa-tion in them and they would be waiting for a situation to explode. Encour-age them when they fail and egg them on wherever they are weak. Remem-ber, imperfection is only human.
Another area of importance is Sex Education. It is a topic that evokes emotive and mixed reactions from everyone concerned. Lack of aware-ness results in various myths and misconceptions to be formed in the minds of Diseases (S.T.D.) are on the rise. Where there are taboos young people indulge in clandestine sex leading to unexpected consequences, as they are amateurs in it. They need to be told to be conscious if anyone touches their erogenous zones. Such an effort is wanting on the part of parents.
This training needs to be seen as lamp to be passed from generation to generation. If well lit this lamp can dispel all darkness and spread light in our life. Today this light is fluttering and darkness threatens to encompass it. The onus lies on the parents of today to inculcate proper values in their offspring. In nature we see that a plant in darkness would grow towards light so as to gain nutrition. Today’s generation needs to be trained to incline them to the truth. The Almighty has entrusted parents with a cardi-nal responsibility of raising their children in true faith. Children also have the obligation to obey their parents. Only when this becomes a reality would the world be a better place to live in.
