2 /// ORMSTOWN VOICE /// FEBRUARY - MARCH

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Dear Fellow Citizens,

To start the year 2013, I would like to draw your attention to the municipality’s position on two current issues: municipal management and the violence directed towards elected officials and municipal employees.

It would be an understatement to say that, at present, some elected officials and municipal employees in our province, possess a less than perfect reputation and credibility. Nevertheless, the large majority of elected officials and municipal employees work extremely hard and often in unfavourable conditions to ensure quality services for all citizens.

In this context, the council and all municipal employees have adopted an unconditional policy of zero tolerance towards acts that do not conform to the municipal code of ethics.

Several acts and resolutions such as the control and handling of calls to tender and the employee code of ethics are already in place to ensure proper control for managing public funds in Ormstown and this policy will be ongoing.

With regard to violence, the Municipality of Ormstown will adopt a resolution at the next council meeting to the effect that violence towards its employees and elected officials is not an option and all types (intimidation, blackmail, threats, vandalism etc.) will be met with zero tolerance.

As of today, the Municipality of Ormstown says NO to violence and will take all measures to ensure respect of this fundamental democratic right.

In closing, it is important to understand that quality of life concerns all of us, and that everyone’s contribution is essential.

Jacques Lapierre, Mayor of Ormstown
