Summer has been slow in coming, especially with the arrival of the snow that we had for the days leading up to Pentecost on June 9th. It seemed for a while that nothing was getting accomplished, but once we reviewed our committee and vestry minutes we soon realized that we have really had made some wonderful additions and contributions to St. Francis so far this year. One of the most dramatic additions to our church had been a floor extension remodel that was done for the piano, organ and choir. We are still in the process of working out the kinks with speaker placement, volume and choir positioning, for the best interaction with the congregation. This last Sunday was an example of how music enhances the spirit of our service. I received numerous comments from both visitors and congregants that the music really touched their hearts. Visitors said, “you guys really do like to sing” and “we really enjoyed the service music”. On another musical note, we welcomed Pastor Inger Hanson, from Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran church in Jackson. Pastor Inger is leading a “Holden Evening Prayer” service at St. Francis, taking place on the 3rd Wednesday of the summer months. Gayle Lien has been instrumental with this wonderful, musically prayerful, service. Those that attended in June were touched by the new experience of song and prayer. Please join us in July and August, to see for yourself, how a musical service can enrich worship in your life. Tin Cup is taking place this month, with the race being held on July 20th. Please make your contribution to the Community Foundation of Teton Valley in the name of St. Francis of the Tetons Church. Letters have been sent out and contributions need to be received by 5:00 pm on July 26th. Please take time to read your letter and contribute as generously as you can this year. These contributions really do make a difference in our service to the community. Toni Hill is putting together a 25th birthday party for St. Francis, to be taking place on the 25th of August after the worship service. This is the date of the Bishop’s annual visit so Bishop Brian will be here to bless our special event. Mark your calendar and plan on attending this joyous celebration. God’s peace, Rod

Our Donation Dollars Making a Difference St. Francis is extremely grateful for
money that was donated to our
outreach programs this past year.
Money donated through private
donations and through the Tin Cup
has made a big difference in the
Special Education programs at Driggs
Elementary, Teton Middle and Teton
High Schools.
At the beginning of the school year
St. Francis was able to help buy an
Interactive White Table for Driggs
Elementary School, an Under Desk
Treadmill for Teton High School, and
ten Chrome Books for Teton Middle
School.
Our love and support reaches further
than just our school district. In recent
years St. Francis has joined with the
Community Resource Center so that
your dollars go where they are needed
most. Through the CRC we have been
able to help with rent and medical
relief within the valley. We also
currently support our St. Francis Boy
Scout and Girl Scout troops by helping
them purchase awards and supplies as
well as helping them with funds for
camp. Your money also goes toward
supporting a group of men with needs
at the Calderwood House in Driggs.
Whether you choose to donate
through Tin Cup or privately through
our church we use every dollar toward
helping those in need in our
community.
Please consider how you can help. We
are open for donations throughout the
year. If you wish to donated privately
please send your check to the church
with a note letting us know where you
would like the money to be applied.

A Prayer For Our Country From the Book of Common Prayer
Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee
that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will.
Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from
violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.
Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out
of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy
Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home,
and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of
the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of
trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
St. Francis Approved Vestry Minutes From May 14, 2019
Attendees: Rod Gust, Senior Warden; Steve Thomas, Wood Palmer, Peter Oslund, Ruth Lindstedt The meeting convened at 5:40 PM and an opening prayer was offered. Agenda March minutes approved as distributed. There were no minutes from the April meeting due to lack of a quorum. Old Business Letter to Hawtin Jorgenson regarding return of monies paid for design of front entry was signed and sent on May 6. Recognition gifts
On recommendation of Vestry members present in April, a gift appropriate to recognize Dan Neese for his gift of sanctuary lighting was explored. A flowering, non-fruit bearing crab tree has been recommended together with an engraved recognition plaque. It was moved and seconded to purchase a 10-foot tree and a recognition plaque and place the tree in the memorial garden near the columbarium. The motion passed.
Historically the parish purchases a personal gift several times a year to recognize Deb Adams ministerial service to the church. After discussion, Ruth offered and Wood seconded a motion to approve an expenditure for the purchase of gift certificate at MD Nursery and dark chocolates.
Smoke detectors have not yet been purchased as approved. Rod will purchase at Ace Hardware this week. Mission statement update:
Discussed the need for updated language in the mission statement. A proposal to expand the lead statement was also discussed. A motion to adopt the revised mission statement (see attached document) was seconded and approved.
A process for distribution of the revised mission statement to members of the parish community was considered and the following measures are planned:
The revised statement will appear as a service folder insert for one month with an invitation for feedback. The full statement will appear in the June Newsletter. The statement will appear periodically thereafter as a service folder insert and/or in the Newsletter.
Update regarding the floor extension into lower sanctuary for piano, organ, and choir was provided by Rod Gust. Work is to begin this week and be completed in 7 to 10 days. Rod is purchasing needed materials. Volunteers to assist are welcome.
New Business Pete Oslund recommended that greeter/ushers be reminded to familiarize visitors with the different worship books that will be used dur-
ing a service. Community outreach opportunity communicated by Lisa Wagener.
A Back to School event is being prepared by the Community Resource Center (CRC) on August 17th for needy students. The request is for donations of toiletries and laundry items by August 11th.
The Vestry voted to support this effort with a notice to appear in the written Announcements in Sunday service folder and placement of a donation box in the narthex to accept items. Monetary donations to support the purchase of appropriate items can also be made.
Fall in church attendance. Discussion occurred about some possible reasons for this and an acknowledgement that further reflection on the matter is needed.
Financial report: Ruth March Transaction Detail by Account ((TDA) was presented by Ruth. A motion by Wood and seconded by Steve to accept the re-
port as presented was passed. April TDA was presented by Ruth. A motion by Steve and seconded by Pete to accept the report as presented was passed. A check for $445.84 was issued to cover the Boy Scouts 2019 chartering fee from the Youth Program account. Ruth noted that this
expense will need to be anticipated in preparation of the budget for 2020. Boy Scout update: Wood
Request for SFT to host the annual Boy Scout dinner in April of 2020. A motion by Pete, seconded by Rod, was passed to extend this invitation.
Opportunity extended to visit special education area of Teton Valley school district: Ruth The school district welcomes a visit after school hours by church members to visit special education classrooms that benefitted from
SFT assistance to purchase equipment for students. Vestry indicated interest in doing this. Ruth will attempt to coordinate an appropriate date/time for a visit.
A motion by Steve, with a second from Pete, was passed to adjourn the meeting at 7:15 PM. A closing prayer was offered. Respectfully submitted, Ruth Lindstedt, Recorder
