Message from the Administration
Semester one has come and gone but not without some excitement. We survived a
“broken elevator”, an ice storm, cold temperatures and exams. Welcome to 2014, a
new semester, new courses and the opportunity to chose courses for the 2014/15
school year.
On Thursday February 6th and Friday February 7th all students will participate in
course selection assemblies. This is a time to sit with your child and discuss career
options and course requirements. New this year, students in grade ten and eleven will
participate in completing their Individualized Pathways Plan. Creating Pathways to
Success sets out the new career development policy for Ontario schools, which in-
volves the implementation of a comprehensive Kindergarten to Grade 12 education
and career/life planning program designed to help students achieve their personal goals
and become competent, successful, and contributing members of society.
The following beliefs and principals underpin the education and career/life planning
program. What students believe about themselves and their opportunities and what
their peers and the adults in their lives believe about them, significantly influences the
choices students make and the degree to which they achieve their goals. The education
and career/life planning program policy for Ontario schools is based on three core
beliefs:
all students can be successful;
success comes in many forms;
there are many pathways to success.
To view the Creating Pathways to Success document please visit the Ontario
Ministry of Education website, at www.ontario.ca/education.
If you have any questions regarding course selection or the Individual Pathways Plan
(IPP) please do not hesitate to contact the school at (905)660-1397.
In closing we wish all our students a successful semester two. Bring on Spring!

What a SLAM!
Grade 10 English students were stars at their Spoken Word Poetry Showcase this past De-
cember. 5 classes and dozens of students came together to prove that not only are they full of
insights and socially motivated speakers, but that they have the talent to capture the rhythmic soul
of Spoken Word. Snaps from Ms. Best, Ms. Adamthwaite, and Mrs. Peñafiel!
