Tom Grant In September, Swan Point Yacht and Country Club suffered a loss
in the passing of Tom Grant. Tom will be
missed by all who knew him. He not only
worked as part of the grounds crew but
was best known as our Saturday Starter.
He always enjoyed being on the golf
course; if he wasn’t working
you could find him and his
wife Carolyn playing a
round and enjoying the
beauty that is Swan Point sharing their
mutual love for the game of golf. The
Swan Point Team will truly miss Tom; he
was one of a kind.

Course News
As is consistent with the rest of the year, September proved to be challenging weather wise. With an
average of only six hours of sunlight per day, the best growing month of the year was basically lost
after what one could only describe as a long summer. The weather seemed to alternate between
rain or cloud cover. To quantify it, this year Swan Point has received 52” inches of rain already when
on average the course receives 43.6” for the entire year.
With the difficult weather it has been a
challenge to keep up with routine course
practices. Whenever there is a break in the
weather we will cut the fairways and rough
at every chance. With the forecast of rain to
continue we will need to mow occasionally
when wet. If this is the case, it is extra
important for cart rules to be obeyed on
those days particularly to protect the
integrity of the course.
As the bermudagrass begins to enter into its
dormant phase, the water usage by the
plant is cut in half, causing water to stick
around longer on the course. This will be the
case for the remainder of the year.
Looking ahead, the crew plans to concentrate on preparing for the fall/winter season in the month of
October. Projects include the low limbing of tree branches, marsh clean up, and getting out key
sprays on the bermudagrass.
As always if you have any questions feel free to stop me out on the course, come see me in the
shop, or shoot me a message.

ARC REMINDERS :
Fall is a great time to spruce up your planting beds. It is also an excellent time to clean out the weeds in
your beds, around your mailbox and in your ground cover. If it is tough to pull the weeds in your ground cover a good tip is to trim them with the weed whacker to the top of the ground cover. The best way to keep the weeds away is to spray them with weed killer. A little cleanup can make a huge difference in the beauty of your home
The Architectural Review Committee meets at 10:00 am, at the Clubhouse on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Requests must be received at the SPPOA office by 9:00a.m the Friday before a scheduled ARC meeting. Questions may be directed to the CMC On-Site Manager at: (301) 259-2100. Office hours are: 8- 3: T, TH & FR
(1) SPPOA BOARD MEETING: The Board meeting is tomorrow, Sept. 20th (7:00 p.m.) at the SPYCC Clubhouse. An agenda will be provided at the meeting. Each meeting has an agenda item for the SP property owners to ask questions of the Board in a forum set-aside for this activity.
(2) FLU SHOTS AT SP: On Thursday Sept. 20th (5-8 p.m.) SP resident Monica Ganter (Registered. Pharmacist) will provide flu shots at a location in the Clubhouse. Pleas bring ID and your Medicare card (if you have one), to assist Monica with the paperwork for administrating the shot. This is Mon-ica's 3rd annual service to the community.
(3) COUNTY-WIDE BOOKMOBILE AT SP: The Bookmobile next schedule visit is Saturday, October 13th (11:00-noon) at the parking lot in front of the SPYCC Clubhouse. The Bookmobile can generate library cards on a real-time basis, and stocks contemporary books/other materials (2006-2018) for adults and children. (5) NO SOLICITATION VIOLATION IN SP: To share with the community -- a tree company "Pine Cuts" was in the neighborhood recently, going door-to-door soliciting business by passing out flyer's and knocking on doors. We have contacted the company to remind them that SP is a no solicitation neighborhood. also partially within the critical area of Charles County - where trees (greater than 5 inches diameter not be cut w/o County prior approval [In a general sense, please check to make sure other vendors are reliable before allowing them to do work at your residence.]
(6) PAVING AROUND THE CLUBHOUSE PARKING LOT: Monday Sept. 24th thru Wednesday Sept. 26th the parking lot will be closed until the paving project is completed. The golf shop will be open, and a shuttle will be available to take you from/to parking at the Pool. The Clubhouse will be closed during the paving, However, the Midway Grill will be open each day, starting at 8:00 a.m. The Clubhouse reopens Wednesday, Sept. 26th 5 p.m. with Happy Hour and Dinner Specials.
