The Burnaby Board of Trade held itsAnnual General Meeting on June 5th aspart of its Spring Economic Update andReception. The event, which took placeat the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, wassponsored by Scotiabank and featured akeynote address by their Chief EconomistWarren Jestin in addition to the regularAGM functions such as the Treasurer’sReport and the swearing in of the newand returning Board Directors.
“While much has changed [over thepast year], the things that count have
stayed the same,” said outgoing Chairof the Board Dick Kouwenhoven. “TheBurnaby Board of Trade has continuedto emphasize its commitment to a triplebottom line of social, environmental,and economic results, and continues toserve our membership through the bestpossible supports, programs, initiativesand benefits.”
Kouwenhoven continued on to notethat providing greater value to membershas been a key theme of the BBOT overthe past year, citing examples such asits improved communication channelsand new and better events, includingnew member orientations and political
speaker engagements.Swearing in of the Directors was
performed by City Councillor PaulMcDonell. New Directors this year areSoon-Jae Lee (KOTRA), Mike Kaerne(HollyNorth Production Supplies),Ryan Hoag (KPMG), and MiltonRichards (Simon Fraser University).Outgoing Directors include SimonChen (KPMG), Wilf Hurd (SFU), PeterLeitch (Mammoth Studios), and TatsuyaNakagawa (Atomica Creative Group).
Leza Muir (Pacific Blue Cross) takesover as the new Chair of the Board, whileCatherine Aczel Boivie assumes the roleof First Vice Chair.

The fourth annual Carnavaldel Sol will be hosted on fiveblocks of Granville Street indowntown Vancouver all dayJune 30th during the CanadaDay weekend.
The event will showcaseperformances by local Latinartists. This day long fiestawill feature an authentic LatinAmerican food court and
marketplace with games andactivities for children, a soccertournament and more.More than 50,000 peopleattended last year’s festival,garnering Latincouver a nation-al award for promoting Latinculture in Canada.
