consulted to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice for learners planning to enter employment directly in the science sector. Success in QMC’s Biomedical Science course could lead to BSc (Hons) degrees in Biomedical Science or Pharmacy for example.

How is the course assessed?You will study 13 Level 3 units over two years. The units have been chosen with a Biomedical Science focus. There are 10 coursework-based units and three exam-based units. Exams are taken in January and June with opportunities to resit if necessary.

What topics will I be studying? • Principles and Applications of Science - Exam • Practical Scientific procedures and Techniques • Science Investigation Skills - Exam • Laboratory Techniques and their Application • Further Principles and Applications of Science - Exam • Investigative Project • Contemporary Issues in Science • Physiology of Human Body Systems • Biological Molecules and Metabolic Pathways • Diseases and infections • Applications of Organic Chemistry • Practical Chemical Analysis • Biomedical Science • Medical Physics Applications

Will I need any specialist materials or equipment?No, QMC’s superb suite of Science Laboratories are extremely well equipped. You will need a number of course booklets and practical equipment but everything you require will be provided, you contribute towards these as part of your course costs.
