    People of the Parish

    F R O M F R . J O N E S

Dear people of St Martin’s, what a joy

it has been for me to serve this parish

over the last 14 months! I am truly

    thankful for the hospitality and

welcome I have received during my

    short tenure as your parish

administrator, and I truly wish that our

time together was not coming to an

    end.

I know that the set-up we had was

not always an easy one. Having a

    priest who has another full-time

position plus a family will always pose

a challenge for all involved, and I

know that has been the case at

St Martin’s from time to time. I truly

    appreciate your patience as I’ve

tried to juggle all three, and your

    understanding as sometimes things

    slipped through the cracks.

    Thank you!

I am confident that you all will thrive

under the leadership of Fr. Doke and

will enjoy his presence and ministry to

    the parish.

Please pray for my new ministry as

Director of Stewardship for the diocese

and for the success of our endeavors

to introduce the stewardship model to

all our parishes. It will be quite the task,

but I am confident that, with God’s

    help, we will succeed.

I look forward to being back at

St Martin’s at times in my new role,

and I look forward to all of us growing

further in our faith and in our ministries

on behalf of Jesus and His Church.

    Many blessings to you all!

PARISH SCHOOL AND YO UTH NEWS

MONDAY SCRIPTURE GROUP The Monday evening Scripture Group

    has resumed meeting on Monday

evenings at 7pm at church. For more

    information contact Barb Mertens at

893-4796. Everyone is welcome to join.

PARISH FISH FRY Planning for our Fish Fry in July: A Faith,

Fun and Fellowship Event on Picnic

Sunday is well under way. The event

will be held on Sunday, July 12, our

    regular picnic Sunday from12pm-5pm.

Thank you to Julie Clingman who

agreed to chair the event and all of the

people who have volunteered to plan

    and organize the various areas.

We will have a drive-thru meal of fried

fish, fried potato chips, coleslaw and

cornbread. There will be live music to

entertain those waiting in line, along with

opportunities to support the parish and

school by participating in a 50/50 raffle,

the Home and School Association’s UTV

raffle, and an online auction of quilts and

    other items.

The quilts will be on display in the gym

beginning the weekend of June 20-21.

Ways you can help with the event:

    Donate non-perishable items for the

    online auction. Generally these

would be items valued over $25.

Donate toward the cost of food.

    Volunteer to work. Contact Andrea

Fender at 893-3519 or 694-0586 if you

are able to assist with the event.

Pray for the success of the event

Invite your family and friends to

come eat and participate in the

    raffles and online auction

Help advertise by mentioning in your

    social media accounts

We are following the cautious approach

    used by Immaculate Conception Parish

in Loose Creek when having our

    drive-thru meal. As such, those

parishioners under the age of 18 and

over the age of 65 are not being asked

to work the event. However, we are

asking all parishioners to assist in some

    manner. We particularly encourage all

those not physically working the event to

pray for its success! Also, if you are

unable to work, please consider making

a financial gift to offset the cost of food.

EXCAVATING HELP NEEDED We have an opportunity to bring

fiber optic Internet to our parish

    campus. Centurylink has a fiber/high

speed cable buried across the street

from our church. The city is installing

a crossing light in front of our

    church’s west driveway in June.

At that time, the city will put in

conduit pipe so Centurylink can run

the fiber cable under the road to our

property. We are hoping to have a

trench dug from the shoulder on the

north side of the road to church and

from church to school in order to lay

conduit and fiber to equipment in

church and school. As such, we are

    looking for parishioners or businesses

    who have equipment that can

    perform the digging, laying of

conduit and running of cable to

help with this project. If you can

    help, please contact our principal,

    Mrs. Julie Clingman at

    [email protected] or

    Debbie Boeckman, our technology

    coordinator at

    [email protected] as soon

    as possible. By connecting all

buildings on our parish campus, we

    will consolidate from three Internet

accesses at 10 mbps to one Internet

access at 300mbps for a minor cost

    increase. This will provide much

    better access, will eliminate

    duplicate network equipment and

    will reduce network maintenance

time which is done by volunteers.

PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN St. Martin Parish School is taking

    applications for Preschool and

    Kindergarten students for the

    2020-2021 school year. To apply

    please contact the school office.

ST MARTIN’S GARAGE SALES St. Martins’ annual community-wide

garage sale is scheduled for June 26

    and/or June 27, 2020. We are again

asking for those who participate to

contribute $2 to cover the cost of

    advertising in the newspapers. For

more information or to pay the $2,

    contact Helen Kliethermes, 337 West

    Forest Lane (893-3693) or Virginia

    Bayne, 345 Verdant Lane (893-8761).
