All copies must have the Competitor’s Name, Class Number, and Competitor Number, written on a small additional piece of paper,attached to the top left hand corner, on the first page of sheet music. This does not need to be typed but does need to be tidy. For example: RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR PERFORMERS 1 Doors open 45 minutes prior to the start of session and locks 20 minutes after the session has ended. 2 No paper or phone entries. Full payment must accompany entry. 3 Age shall be determined as at the 1st July 2020. Proof of age must be provided if requested in case there is a dispute. 4 No competitor may compete out of their age group, except in duo, trio, and group classes. Competitors must compete in the class of their oldest group member. 5 Time limits must be strictly adhered to and will be enforced: Under 12 Years: 3 minutes; 12-15 Years: 4 minutes; 16 Years & Over plus Open Classes: 6 minutes. Items exceeding the time limit in any age group may be penalised. The adjudicator will ring a bell and the competitor must stop and move off stage. (All maximum times) 6 Only names of items included on entry forms will be printed in the Programme and on Reports. Names of items cannot be added at any time after the closing of entries. 7 The competitions are not open to professional performers. A professional is any performer who has achieved this status by qualification or experience, and whose income and chosen career require being recognised as a professional. 8 The Committee reserves the right to combine, divide or cancel classes and scholarships according to entries received and will refund where applicable. Unless otherwise stated, the competitions will be organised and run under the Society’s usual well-established rules and conditions, a copy of which can be obtained on request from the Secretary, which will be sent by e-mail. 9 Stage - no person other than officials, and such competitor or competitors as the Stage Manager/Convenor directs, will be allowed backstage or at the side of the stage. Stage Manager/Convenor may allow some flexibility if requested but not, Special Award Classes or National Awards. 10 Protests - to be entered in writing within one hour of the Judge’s Award, and to be accompanied by a deposit of $20 as evidence of good faith. Deposit to be returned if protest upheld. 11 All competitors, spectators and other personnel involved, do so at their own risk, and the Society takes no responsibility for loss of or damage to personal property. 12 Videoing or photography of other competitiors is not permitted unless permission has been granted by the competitors parent/guardian. 13 Wanganui Competitions Society reserves the rights of applying and interpreting the rules of the Society. Decisions made by the Wanganui Competitions Society Committee are final. 14 Health & Safety Competitors and competition attendees must abide by the Health & Safety rules of the competition and the competition venue. If competitors are found to be breaching these rules, the Committee reserves the right to ask competitors to remove themselves from the competition venue. 15 By entering this competition – Competitors, Teachers, and those entering on behalf of Competitors declare that they understand the rules of this competition and will abide by them. Rules for PerformAble Classes: Classes for students who are ‘wired differently’ but have an equal passion and love of performing and who would not be able to compete in our other classes. Competitors can enter into these classes more than once to perform their desired piece, e.g. two times in DanceAble Ballet Class to perform a Classical Ballet and a Classical Barefoot. But competitors may not perform the same item twice. We will organise the classes to give competitors the best opportunity possible to perform. The classes are an open age, soloist class. If a competitor chooses to enter into our regular classes to compete, they are no longer eligible to compete in PerformAble Classes. If a dispute is made in regards to competitors entered in our PerformAble classes, a medical certificate explaining the diagnoses of a competitor may be required. Donations of Cups & Trophies: Cups and Trophies have been generously donated over the years and we know the students have appreciated receiving them, however the committee has decided that we have plenty of these awards, so if you would like to make a contribution to the competition, please sponsor a class ($25) or make a financial donation. Thank you!

Opera House Stage: The stage is 8.7 x 11.5 meters with black masking and black backdrop. Keep this in mind when planning items. Standard competition lighting is set – this cannot be changed. Costumes, choreography, and music should be appropriate for the age of the competitor and suitable for a family audience. N.B. Competitors will be issued with a free pass and must wear this to admit them free to all sessions. Any additional passes can be purchased via the online entry system when placing your entry. Or, you can purchase passes and programmes at the door of the festival.

RULES AND CRITERIA FOR ENTERING PACANZ

A. Performers will be 18 and under 25 years as at 1st of October 2020. B. Performers will introduce their items and they must sing them in the language in which they were composed. C. Each performer will perform a programme of a maximum of 15 minutes and no less than 12 minutes, including the introduction. There will be a total mark given for the complete programme. A penalty of 10 marks will be imposed if the minimum time limit is not met, or the maximum time limit is exceeded by 60 seconds or more. An accompanist is not provided. D. Each performer will perform a programme consisting of: D.1. 20th or 21st Century Art Song D.2. Aria (Opera or Oratorio) D.3. Own Selection The adjudicator will determine that a competitor has displayed a sufficient standard of performance to competently represent that Wanganui Competitions Society Inc at the National Finals. The standard required will be at the absolute discretion of the adjudicator but will include:

• A demonstration of adequate preparation • An authority of performance • A performance with a level of maturity commensurate with a national final competition of this age group.

Wanganui Competitions Society Inc can make up to two nominations. If the adjudicator considers that sufficient standard has not been reached by any competitor, then no nomination will be made. Wanganui Competition Society Inc is responsible for paying part of the entry fee to the National Young Performer Awards i.e. $75 incl. GST per Nominee. Each Nominee is responsible for paying the rest of the entry fee to the National Young Performer Awards i.e. $175.00 incl. GST. Only enter the Nomination class if you are seeking a Nomination AND are committed to attending and competing at the National Young Performer Awards in Palmerston North 16-18 Oct 2020.
