THEME OF THE CONFERENCE:
The research scenario of Civil Engineering is tremendously changing with latest trends emerging in all the streams. Studies on improving concrete properties, rehabilitation of existing structures, structural optimization, Computer Aided Analysis and design using Finite element Analysis are of growing importance. Climate changes and its impact on changing water levels, economy and future as a whole need to be focused. Growing global warming and effects of urbanization on the environment need to be addressed. The main objective of the Conference is to provide a forum for the discussion of research results, new developments and novel concepts in the fields of Civil Engineering thus paving way for the researchers to explore the latest trends. The Conference focuses on bringing together the researchers, professionals and scientists from R&D and educational institutions across the globe to share their views and recommendations. The Conference encased the following themes

CONTENTS OF THE CONFERENCE The conference received tremendous response from the authors across the country and around the
globe. We have received 93 technical papers including 8 keynote papers from eminent
international researchers Dr. V Rama Krishnan, Professor, south Dakota, USA, Dr. Geiger,
Germany, Dr. Indubhushan patnaikuni,Australia, Dr.Fang fwa, Singapore, Dr.B.Vijaya
Rangan,Australia, Dr. V S Parameswaran, Chicago, Prof. M R Madhav, India. The conference technical sessions started with a gracefull keynote address on “Development of
New Construction Materials for structural use” by Dr V Ramakrishnan, Regeants
distinguished professor South Dakota school of Mines & Technology. He has highlighted on the
use of corrosion free basalt fiber composite rebarsas reinforcement for concrete.
The keynote address of technical session -1 highlighted the durability studies of basalt
fibres in concrete by Dr.Indubhushan patnaikuni from RMIT,Austrlia The session was chaired by Prof.N Murali Krishna of OC Engineering hyd.The session also
showcased the research on Lateral Load Distribution In Nonlinear Static Procedures For RCC
Building, Dynamic Sensitivity Analysis of Structures Under Discrete Damaging Incidents, A
Study on the Effect Of Fiber Orientation on Simply Supported Laminated Plates , Performance
Study of Joints in Honey Comb Sandwich Panels Used In Light Weight Construction; Integrated
Shape and Topology Optimization of Cylindrical Shells, Integrated Shape and Topology
Optimization of Cylindrical Shells, Effects of Openings In Shear Wall on Seismic Response of
Frame-Shear Wall Structures.
In TECHNICAL SESSION -2 keynote LECTURE was presented by Prof Geiger on
Urban Storm Water Management trapped by manmade and natural changes The session consisted presentation of papers on Assessment of Dissloved Pollutants In Krishna
River Using Mass Balance Approach, Inverse Modeling to Soil-Water And Solute Movement
Parameters, Inverse Modeling to Soil-Water And Solute Movement Parameters, Multi Electrode
Resistivity Survey for Characterisation of Hard Rocks, Multi Electrode Resistivity Survey for
Characterisation of Hard Rocks, Sea Water Desalination using Cost Effective Technologies
In TECHNICAL SESSION -3 keynote LECTURE was presented by eminent International
expert in precast and prestressed concrete by Dr.V S Parameswaran on Materials and
Techniques for Repair & Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures
. and in session -4 Dr.B Vijaya Rangan Professor, Curtin university, Australia Expertise in
Geopolymer concrete addressed with his keynote on Geo polymer Concrete Applications. The papers in these two sessions showcased interesting research in the emerging trends in
concrete studies and new alternative materials which are the need of the Sustainable
development. Bio inspired solutions, Porosity and Permeability Studies on Magnetic Water
Concrete, Studies on Bamboo as Reinforcing Material in Concrete Beam, Light Weight
Aggregate Concrete replacing Conventional Aggregate with LECA etc
In session – 5 Professor M R Madhav,visiting professor,JNTUH and Professor Emiritus,I
IT,Hyd delivered a key note on Pullout in inclined inextensible reinforcement in Reinforced
soil wall and the session included the presentations on Soil Structure Interaction of Building Frames Supported By Foundations, Dynamic Analysis of
RCC Cantilever Retaining Wall with Different Parameters, Dynamic Analysis of RCC Cantilever
Retaining Wall with Different Parameters, Analysis of Earth Reinforcement Elements Using
Finite Element Method, Studies on Impact of Industrialization on Soil Quality Using Remote
Sensing and GIS- A Model Study etc. In session – 6 Professor Indubhushan Patnaikuni, Australia delivered a key note on
Critical issues during the concession review of studies on public–private partnership
projects.The session discussed various possible new techniques in Project management like
Multiple Decision Making Models, pestel analysis etc.
In session – 7 Dr.T. F. Fwa,Director, Centre for transportation & Professor, National
University of Singapore delivered a key note on Integrated Highway Infrastructure
Management System. The session had discussions on Comparative Study on Strength
Characteristics of Soil Stabilized Pavement by Using Flyash, Restoring Culture, Belief’s and
Heritage in Development of Sustainable Infrastructure, PRT System, Analysis for Motorbike
Accident on Helmet Wearing in Selected Stretches of Hyderabad City, Goods Travel Demand
Estimation Roller Compacted Concrete Pavements for Rural Roads in India etc.
In session – 8 Dr. Ramakrishnan presented a keynote on Global Warming and
Sustainability issues as related to Concrete Technology, On behalf of Dr.V.M. Malhotra from Natural Resources Canada, CANMET, Ottawa, Canada
The session resulted discussions on Earthquakes-Oceans-Tsunamis-Coastal Zone Management,
Refurbishment of Existing Buildings for Energy Saving, Stratigraphic Status of the Koderma.
Mica Belt, North-Eastern Seismic Status and Mitigation Requirements, Studies on Aquifer
Characteristics in Mathadi Vagu Basin , Zero Waste Management & Treatment Technologies for
Brewery Effluents- A Case Study of M/S.United Breweries Limited,etc. On the whole the three days were tremendous brain storming sessions on the research results
presented by various researchers across the globe and various parts of the country. I hope the
authors have noted the suggestions given by the chair persons to proceed in the right
directions.We have contributions from authors from MIT,Manipur, Orissa, NIT Rourkela,
Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Bangalore, BITS, Pilani Rajasthan and from various
parts of Andhra Pradesh.
It is understood from the feedback of all the participants that all the technical sessions
were very informative and the keynote addresses were appreciated by the participants, authors
and the faculty. We thank the Management, Principal, TEQIP – II for their constant
encouragement and valuable suggestions given in organizing this Conference successfully.

THEME OF THE CONFERENCE:
Concrete is the most using material in construction field due to it’s versatile properties. As the
Construction field developing a lot the world is looking for Sustainable and profitable materials.
The theme of this conference was divided in to 6 themes.
Durability: Mix Design, Novel test Methods Carbonation Resistance, Alkali silica Reaction,
Sulphate Resistance , Corrosion ,Permeability.
Sustainability: Sustainable materials for concrete, Waste materials usage in concrete Sustainable
design and Construction low cost materials & technologies.
Innovative Materials in Concrete and admixtures: Special cements, supplementary
cementitious materials in concrete Coarse and fine aggregates from other sources. Mineral and
chemical admixtures. Advances in Admixtures.
Nano-technology Applications in Concrete: Usage of Nano Engineering and Nano
modification of cement based materials.
Advances in Concrete Technology: High performance concrete, self-compacting concrete, Geo
polymer concrete,Pervious concrete, Bacterial concrete, Engineered Cementitious composites.
Innovative Construction Practices: Advances in Concrete construction equipment, innovative
formwork & false work ,Composite construction technology.
CONTENTS OF THE CONFERENCE:
The conference received tremendous response from the authors across the country 46 full length
technical papers are received including keynote papers . The conference technical sessions started
with a grace full keynote Lecture1 & Technical session -1 by Dr. P. Srinivasa Rao Vice principal
& Professor, Civil Engineering Department, JNTU Hyderabad. The session showcased the
research work going on different material usage in concrete and sustainability of the materials.
The keynote Lecture-2 & Technical session -2&3 was given by Dr. P. Rathish Kumar NIT
Warangal . The session showcased the research work going on different material usage in
concrete and sustainability of the materials. The keynote Lecture-3 & Technical session -4 was
given by Dr. P. N.Rao Professor BITS Pilani Hyderabad. The session showcased Different fiber
reinforced concretes, self-compacting concrete, Bacteria concrete. The keynote Lecture-4 &
Technical session -5 by Dr.G.Rajesh Kumar Professor NIT Warangal .The session showcased
Development of mix design for SCC(Self compacting concrete), Destructive and Non Destructive
tests on concrete. Technical session -6 by Dr. M.Janardhan Professor JNTU Hyderabad. The
session showcased Nano Technology applications, study on pervious concrete pavements.

Impacts which can be mitigated by suitable Engineering and management options. The main
The objective of the Conference is to provide a forum for the discussion of research results, new

reconstruction and thus paving the way to the researchers to explore the latest trends. The

length papers.The Conference was started with a great full keynote address on “Slope stability
of SH-1, Mahabaleswar,India” by Prof T.N Singh ,Head & Professor Earth sciences
Department, IIT, Bombay.
Key note address of Technical session-1 Highlighted the “use of Geospatial Technology For
Monitering And Mapping Urban Floods” by Scientist of NRSC, Hyderabad.The session
showcased the usage of Geo-spatial technology for monitoring and maping the urban floods.
Key note address of Technical session-2 Highlighted “Impact Of Climate Change On Water
Resources Engineering:Planning Aspects” by Prof K .Srinivasa Raju BITS Hyderabad.The
session consisted the research papers on Disaster preparedness ,Mitigation and Reconstruction of
Sustainable Society.
Key note address of Technical session-3 Highlighted Need for “Pre Earthquake Risk
Assessment of Buildings in Moderate -to -severe Earthquake Prone Areas in India” by
Prof.R.Pradeep Kumar ,Professor IIIT Htderabad .The session consisted the research papers on
building information modeling a reliable tool for construction.Structural health monitoring using
metal wire based piezo Impadance Transduce.

A Report on National Conference on “Recent Trends in Structural Engineering” 6

th January 2012 under TEQIP –
RTSE conference started with an inspiring and a very informative speech by Dr. K V L
Subramaniam, Professor & Head, IIT Hyderabad on 6th
Jan’ 2012. He highlighted the recent
techniques and developments in the field of structural engineering such as need for using the
innovative materials, necessity of designing earthquake resistant structures, current research that
is going on in the design of smart structures and innovative construction practices etc.
This was followed by a key note lecture by Sri P. Surya Prakash, Director, SatyaVani
Projects & Consultants Pvt. Ltd. who handled various prestigious projects in and outside the
country which include Snow world, Laser gallery, GVK one , Rapid Metro Rail etc. He
emphasized the various new structural forms, buildability and sustainability of the structures.
In the first technical session on 6th
Jan’ 2012 afternoon, various authors including
academicians, research scholars and consulting engineers presented technical papers. The authors
are from DSCE Bangalore, AIT Bangalore, FBA Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, Osmania
University, JNTUH, Chaitanya Engg. College, Vizag, NBKR Inst. of Science & Tech., Nellore
Dt. A cultural program was arranged in the evening by the students of Civil Engg. Dept.,
VNRVJIET.
The second technical session on 7th
Jan’ 2012 included technical paper presentations by
students from NIT Tiruchirapally, DSCE Bangalore, JNTUH, GPR Engg. College Kurnool, St.
Martins Engg. College, Hyderabad, Gurunanak College of Engg., Hyderabad, and VNRVJIET.
Besides paper presentations, events like Treasure Hunt using Survey instruments and Technical
quiz were conducted on the second day.
On the whole the conference focused on Recent Trends and developments in the field of
Structural Engineering and provided a platform for sharing the knowledge, discussing the
research results, new developments and novel concepts in the field of structural engineering. The
feedback of the participants was positive and the conference was successful in fulfilling the
ambitions of participants.
