The intuitive interaction with simulation objects as well as the ability to move within the simulation environment ensure that the users find their way faster and get a better feeling for the size and context of the training object. By displaying additional content (augmentation) such as navigation aids, cross- sectional views or technical drawings, training content can be taught in a very targeted and efficient manner. VMT|VR – TAKES VIRTUAL MAINTENANCE TRAINING TO THE NEXT LEVEL

VMT|VR is available as an extension (plug-in) to our full-fledged Virtual Maintenance Trainer. There are no dependencies between the systems. This ensures that the VMT can be used at any time even without VR. Meaningful applications for VR are specific tasks which are clearly defined and offer the learner a benefit in addition to the already existing VMT

Possible examples are:

› Spatial and factual orientation training at the beginning of the training courses (Where is which component located? What are the names of various components?)

› Training of the spatial memory: observing and operating e.g. cockpit systems by turning the head, the body and moving the arms and hands.

› Joint training on the training object (“multi avatar” training)

› Boroscopic inspection of complex elements: for example, the students see a virtual aircraft engine in front of them and can fade in parts of it in cross-sectional view to get an idea of where the video head of the borescope is currently located.

Modern VR glasses, easy-to-use controllers and other accessories extend the classic VMT application and allow intuitive immersion in the virtual world.

With VR we extend a fully functional Virtual Maintenance Trainer. It offers access to all learning contents of the classic application and the VR extensions at any time.

Specific activities that are difficult to practice on a real system, for example, due to inaccessibility, can be trained very well via virtual reality.

BUILDING ON PROVEN CAPABILITIES

VR for VMT expands the range of applications of Virtual Maintenance Trainers and thus offers benefits for everyone who deals with the topic of „Virtual Maintenance“. Because the VR solution builds upon our proven Virtual Maintenance Trainer technology, both new and existing customers can benefit from this expansion.

SEAMLESS INTEGRATION

Our virtual reality application is seamlessly integrated as a plug-in into the existing VMT infrastructure. Interactions in the 3D desktop environment and in VR can be executed independently of each other or in combination, for example in team training mode. The performance of classic VMT software is not affected by the VR plug-in.

By using VMT|VR, students have the opportunity to understand common relationships between action and reaction in the virtual world (for instance, dismantling a difficult-to-access component in a bent over posture with the necessary tools in hand). Due to the more realistic and intuitive way of operation, compared to the use of keyboard and mouse, these interactions are learned faster and in a more sustainable way (interaction metaphor).
