1 Starting the Analyst tool

The VM Analyst tool is not part of the standard installation. If you wish to install Analyst, run the file Setup_Analyst.msi, which is located in the \Resources folder on the installation media.

To start Analyst, double-click the VMAnalyst icon on the desktop.

Analyst opens the dialog New evaluation.

Enter the start and end dates of time period for analysis. Enable the time of day option if you wish to limit the time on the start date or end date to a specific time of day.

2 Authentication with the database

In order for Analyst to analyse alarm data, Analyst must have access to the VideoManager database.

If Analyst is installed on the same computer as the database (Management server, which is the computer where the Management service is running), use Windows Authentication. Otherwise, use SQL Server Authentication.

If you have selected SQL Server Authentication, the other entry fields in the database authentication area are activated.

You have three options for providing authentication data:

1. Use the local settings file Settings.xml (for details, see Section Settings file Settings.xml.) To do this, the option Use local settings for authentication must be activated.

2. Entries in the dialog

3. Login data from the system configuration file (XMLConf.xml)

2.1 Using the settings file

If you select SQL Server Authentication, the option Use local settings for authentication is automatically activated. Analyst will then use the data from the Settings.xml file. If the data in your case deviates from the standard, you can make changes in the dialog. Analyst will then use the data from the dialog.

2.2 Entries in the dialog

Under Database IP address, enter the IP address of the Management server.

The option Static SQL Port should be activated if there is a problem passing data through a firewall or a router. If the standard port does not work, a different port can be selected.

The User Name and Password refer to the database.

2.3 Login data from the configuration file

If the option Use configuration file is activated, a valid configuration file name is entered and the option Use local settings for authentication is deactivated, then Analyst uses the configuration data from the system configuration file.

3 Displaying camera numbers

In order for Analyst to use camera numbers in place of UIDs, it must recognise the system configuration file. This provides an association between the Analyst results and the cameras in the system.

In order for it to be able to read them, the option Use configuration file must be activated.

Select the file SMLConf.xml (with path and file name) by clicking the button. The file is located in the folder <data path>\Management (e.g. D:\Securiton\VideoManager\Management.) If the Management server is not on the same network, you can download the configuration file via FTP (from the Management server FTP). To do this, activate the option Via FTP and then click the Download... button. After the transfer is complete, Analyst opens a dialog (Save as) where you can save the file and copies the path to the entry field.

4 Settings file Settings.xml

The settings file Settings.xml is located at <Program path>\Analyst (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Securiton\VideoManager\Analyst). This file can be changed only if you have administrator permissions under Windows or start the associated editor with administrator permissions. It can be edited using the XML Notepad program, among other options (XML Notepad is included on the VideoManager installation media and can be installed using the Auxiliary programs option. It contains the following entries:

Parameter Standard Meaning

Version 3.2.0.0 Version of this XML file

LastChange 30.07.2012 Last change of the version of this file

DataBaseIP 127.0.0.1 IP address of the computer where the database is located

DataBaseUserName sa User name for the database

DataBasePassword ********** Password for the database

FTPInternalServerUser Admin User for the internal FTP server (used on the Management server)

FTPInternalServerPassword ********** Password for the internal FTP server (used on the Management server)

ShowDBSelection true If this parameter is set to false, the selection option for authentication with the database is shown greyed out. Only

Windows Authentication is possible in this case (and therefore only local analysis).

5 Analyses

After you have made all the required entries in the New Analysis dialog, click the button Start analysis. Analyst shows the Analysis by day first.

In the top left field, the dates and times for the start and end of the analysis range are shown.

A large part of the Analyst screen is the data area. Depending on the analysis selected (Analysis by day, Analysis by hour, or Analysis by alarm cause), the table contains the following values:

Number of alarms of a camera on 1 day,

Number of alarms in a particular hour (total for the same hour each day throughout the analysis period), or

Number of occurrences of a particular alarm cause.

In order to switch between the various types, click the corresponding button ( , or ) or select the corresponding command from the View menu.

The table area in Analyst is divided into the following areas:

Page 9: VM Analyst En

5.1. Analysis by day

Analysis by Day shows whether particular events or conditions on individual days cause a cluster of alarms. The content of the cell in the table is the sum of alarms for one camera on one day.

5.1.1 Summary of columns (values for one day)

Name Meaning

Total Total number of alarms for all cameras per day

Percentage (%) Percentage for an individual day relative to the total number of alarm occurrences

Average Number of alarms per day relative to the number of cameras

5.1.2 Summary of the rows (values for an individual camera)

Name Meaning

Total Total number of alarms for an individual camera over the analysis time period

Percentage (%) Percentage of one individual camera relative to the total number of alarms over the analysis time period

Average (per day) Number of alarms for an individual camera per day

Page 10: VM Analyst En

5.1.3 System variables

The numbers for the variables refer to the view in the Analyses section.

Number Meaning

1 Sum of all alarms for a system over the analysis period

2 Total number of alarms for all cameras per day

3 Number of alarms per camera per day (key variable for the video monitoring system)

5.1.4 Assessment area

The assessment area provides answers to the following questions:

How is a camera classified on the basis of the number of alarms per day: very good, good, satisfactory or unsatisfactory?

What type of alarm occurs most frequently for each camera?

What alarm cause occurs most frequently for each camera?

The totals of the assessments give a quick overview of the assessments in the overall view. The number of similar assessments is summarised in each case: how many cameras are classified as very good, good, satisfactory, or unsatisfactory.

5.2 Analysis by hour

The purpose of Analysis by Hour is to show clusters of alarms at particular times of day or night.

5.2.1 Summary of the columns (values for a particular hour)

Summary of the columns: values for a particular hour over the entire analysis period

Name Meaning

Total Total alarms for all cameras in a particular hour

Percentage (%) Percentage for an individual hour relative to the total number of alarm occurrences

Average Number of alarms for an individual hour relative to the number of cameras

5.2.2 Results in other areas

The values in all other areas are identical to the results for Analysis by Day.

Analysis by hour (exported table)

5.3 Analysis of alarm causes

Analysis of Alarm Causes shows which causes for alarms are particularly frequent.

5.3.1 Summary of the columns (values for a particular alarm cause)

Summary of the columns: values for a particular cause over the entire analysis period

Name Meaning

Total Total alarms for all cameras having a particular cause

Percentage (%) Percentage of a particular alarm cause relative to the total alarm occurrences

Average Number of alarms having a particular cause relative to the number of cameras

5.3.2 Results in other areas

The values in all other areas are identical to the results for Analysis by Day.

Analysis of alarm causes (exported table)

5.4 Filtering by alarm type

You can limit an analysis right from the start to a particular type of alarm (such as a detection alarm or video alarm). To do so, select the appropriate Type from the list or select All alarm types.

6 Exporting an analysis

You can export an analysis to an Excel file by clicking the button or selecting the menu command File | Export.

In the Export dialog, you can select each of the three partial analyses (by day, by hour, or by alarm cause), or a combination thereof.

By default, all alarms are summarised in one table (Excel worksheet) each. If you deactivate the option All alarms in one table, a separate table is created in the exported file for each type of alarm.
