  • Programming Space

Through a series of garment studies of Sandra Bucklands Garment on the left a design strategy was deveolped that used modulations and sim-ple conceptual joinery to create an exhibition space for the entrance of MOCA in downtown Los Angeles. The modulation strategy uses scale in 3 different scales to allow for a transitional shift in spaces. The program-matic uses for the exhibition space include, sculpture spaces, art work spaces and live art spaces. The Oragami technique used allowed for a quick design method.

Bahamas Urbanism After a fieldtrip to the Bahamas we returned to Woodbury and began to work on creating some form of urbanistic feel to Cape Eleuthera, an Island of the Bahamas. We studies different areas of the cape including an island school, and the local residents community, as well as a failed resort marina attempt. The urban study proposed deveopment in four main zones: The resort area, the island school area, the buffer isolated area, and the local natives community. The area I zoomed in to focus on was located in the local natives community. After experiencing the envi-ronment first hand and conducting surveys, I found that there was a great need for a medical center. The proposed deveolpment was a herbal medical retreat. A retreat being that this proposal needed to be brining in income to th ecommunity.

  • Designing in Rome

Throughout the study abroad experience in Rome, Italy we deveolped a series of layers and through parametric studies developed an over all urban proposal for a site adjacent to the colloseum, where the Baths of Trajan and the Baths of Tritan were formally located. Basing off of the idea on Constants new babylon for the urban proposal the site was divided into sectors, quadrants, and zones. Within these zones different programs were divided, the program I was to develope was the sector closest to the colloseum, the recreation sector. The use of modulations was used as a formal and conceptual strategy for the development of the landscape and the buildable area within the sector. The outcome being a new architecture that is a ruin of its time, and not only complements, but challenges the colloseum.

  • Reciprocating TerritoriesAn inversion of land. While analyzing the conditions at the Mex-ican-American Border at Tijuana and San Ysidro, we came to the conclusion thatanything and everything can potentially help improve the living environment of human beings in this area, more so onthe Tijuana side of the border. During the research phase, different factors were analyzed including: trade, crimerates, pay rates, commerce, population and political impacts.

  • Design & BuildThe first semester of my Ungrad we were challenged as a group with the taslk of analyzing and creating a construct that represented the phenomenon of Sound. With a group of 4 students including myself we created an acousic chamber that required 2 individuals to make it function. One individual steps inside of the chamber to experience the phenomenon, while the second individual manipulated the sound through the exterior.

In this design build studio we worked with the non-profit organization Taking the Reigns. Our group was in charge of creating a kitchen prep space for the girls that would shelter them from the sun. The biggest challenge was our material limitations as we were limited to only using lath in our design and a few 2 x 2 We created a syste that landed into the adjacent garden to pull in water from a nearby source in the garden. The construct stilll stands and is accompanied by other constructs designed to benefit the organization.

  • Materials & Methods

In Collaboration with:Mayra Orellana, Tatiana Zavala, Melvy Gonzalez. and Gerardo Sandoval

In the materials and methods course we were assigned with the mate-rial, wood. We explored different malipuations that were possible with different forms of wood and decided to focus on the bending of wood. The design of the facade system was developed through the use of glue laminating to create the curved teardrops. Individual tear drops are held together by the tension of a wire. The individual tear drops are then bolted together to create the facade.
