CHUKKA TIMEKing’s Cup Elephant Polo in Hua Hin

The King�s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament caused a stir in the royalseaside town of Hua Hin once again this week as the annualtournament was held for the 12th time. Attended by teams from allover the world, plus celebrities, VIP guests and many Bangkok andlocal Hua Hin residents, the tournament provided a shock, with firsttimers Bangkok Bank emerging victorious as they overcameMercedes Benz 1310 in Sunday�s final.

Bangkok Bank were captained by former Olympian JamesManclark, who guided his younger team mates AlisterArchibald and Michael Goodwin to the ultimate prize.

The tournament was introduced to Thailand in 2001 byAnantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas and has grown to become oneof the biggest charitable events in Thailand, raising funds forprojects that better the lives of Thailand�s elephant population.



Saturday night�s gala dinner at Anantara Hua Hin Resort & Spahosted a gathering of top dignitaries and well known celebrities,with the night�s auction raising over four million Thai Baht,taking the total raised to date by the tournament to animpressive US$ 750,000.

Trans gender team Tiffany�s took part in the competition, andprovided a show at the Moulin Rouge themed gala dinner.Celebrity model and presenter Cindy Bishop participated in theevent, joining her husband Byron Bishop in the Mekhong team.

Notable highlights included Ladies Day, Children�s Day,a spectacular opening ceremony that featured traditionalThai dancing, an elephant buffet and a baby elephant camp.

Funds raised from this year�s charity auction will be donatedto various projects in Thailand and will include an extensionof the ongoing Thai Elephant Therapy Project being undertakensince 2009 in conjunction with the Chiang Mai UniversityDepartment of Occupational Therapy, with future clinics toinclude children with Down syndrome and other conditions.
