Vitamins are small molecules needed for many different processes in your body
Deficiency
A deficiency is a shortage of a certain vitamin or other nutrient.
Protein•Important growth and repair•Shortage causes kwasiorkor•Found in meat, eggs and fish
Vitamin A•Important for eye sight•Shortage causes night blindness•Found in Carrots, Broccoli, Green Leafy Vegetables
Vitamin B•Important for respiration•Shortage causes Beri beri•Found in, milk, vegetables
Vitamin C•Important for connective tissue•Shortage causes Scurvy•Found in Fruits
Vitamin D•Important for strong bones and teeth•Shortage causes Rickets•Found Egg Yolk, Milk, Exposure to sunlight

Minerals•Minerals are elements•Metals: calcium, iron• Non-metal: Iodine, Phosphorus•Needed only in small amounts
Calcium•Important for strong bones and teeth•Shortage causes Rickets•Found in milk, fish
Iron•Important for oxygen transport in red blood cells•Shortage causes anemia•Found in Liver, lean Meats, Kidney beans, enriched Bread, Raisins.
Iodine•Important for control of body activity rate (metabolism)•Shortage causes Goitre•Found in Sea food and dairy products
Phosphorus•Building block of DNA, and cell membrane•Shortage causes Hypophosphatemia•Found in Cheese and Nuts
Fibre (Roughage)•Important for easy defecation•Shortage causes Constipation•Found in fruits and vegetables, grains
Water•Important for Hydration, flow within your body•Shortage causes Dehydration•Found in almost anything
Water•A koala can live without drinking, all its water comes from its food•Its name means ‘no water’
