Adhocracy is Vitalstatistix’s national artist hothouse, supporting the creative development of new experimental and interdisciplinary projects. Artists from around Australia join us to create, converse and critique in our beautiful home, Waterside Workers Hall.

6 ! 9 JUNE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY

LONG WEEKENDWATERSIDE

11 NILE STREET PORT ADELAIDE

This is how it works: selected artists spend the long weekend in an open studio environment developing new work which can span live art, performance, sound, installation, visual art and more. Audiences and peers engage with the artists and their creative process through a public program of artist talks and work-in-progress showings.

Each year we also host an artist-in-residence project, where guest artists works with ten South Australian collaborators on the development of a new work, for two weeks leading up to Adhocracy. This year we feature Crawl Me Blood by Halcyon Macleod and Willoh S. Weiland, presented in association with Aphids.

Adhocracy is a festival of ideas meets intense art camp meets magic house party featuring Australia’s most exciting established and emerging makers of Australian contemporary culture, art, performance and commentary, alongside a bar, food and great conversation for a fantastic winter’s long weekend.

WE ARE SEEKING PROPOSALS FROM ARTISTS ACROSS AUSTRALIA FOR THIS UNIQUE CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY. APPLICATIONS DUE 27 MARCH.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We’re interested in projects that:Explore ideas, research questions, provocations and concepts

Are culturally and socially engaged

Provide a methodology for genuine experimentation with ideas and forms over the four days alongside consideration of space, technology, interdisciplinary practice and community engagement, as relevant

Are a genuine collaboration between a creative team over the course of four days (yes, we will accept solo proposals if the project is a solo endeavour)

Enable audiences to experience part of the making process

Are new work in the early stages of development that can bene!t from a hothouse environment (or a substantial reimagining of an existing artwork if there is a strong rationale).

THE PRACTICAL STUFF

Adhocracy is a four-day event. The !rst day, Friday 5 June, is for artists only. The public program for audiences runs Saturday 6 to Monday 8 June. To be selected for participation you must be able to attend all four days. Artists are encouraged to present a talk or showing each evening of the public program.

Selected projects will receive a grant of up to $3000 each. Please note that in applying, you must be con!dent that you can undertake the project within this budget. Primarily this grant will be for you to pay yourselves, cover transport and accommodation costs if you are from outside of South Australia, and purchase some materials. You will also receive some additional production and documentation support.

Each selected project will be allocated a studio space at Waterside which can range in size and technical capacity. To be eligible, your project must be able to take place on site at Waterside. Adhocracy is an adventurous, intense experience and you will be sharing space and resources with other artists.

This is an opportunity for collaboration, experimentation, creative development, and, of course, feedback from Adhocracy artists and audiences.

For more on what Adhocracy is like, we highly recommend you check out the public program and short documentary video from Adhocracy 2014, which can be downloaded at vitalstatistix.com.au
