2. RESIDENT INSTRUCTION

A. Program of Instruction: AAEC 4990 – Special Topics in Ag and Applied Economics: Economics of Poverty. This three credit class was joint-listed as HACE 4900. The course was developed through a grant from the UGA Poverty Initiative and involves students in the research project, “Why Dropouts Happen? Exploring Education, Homeownership and Poverty? (Offered Spring 2008).

AAEC 4800/6800 - Water Resource Economics. This five credit class is designed for upper level undergraduates and M.S. students. Course development has included the design of a set of reading covering the course topics, a course web site, and distance learning techniques (1997-2001). Currently offering course through UGA Independent Study.

AAE 4990- Special Topics. Spring 1998 course preparing a team of students to participate in a mock negotiation session regarding the Tri-State Water Allocation process.

B. Course Description:

AAEC 4990 – The course on poverty and the role of education and housing in both reducing and contributing to poverty in America. The seminar includes speakers involved in poverty issues as well as readings and class discussions. Students are involved in the funded research project and participate in the design and analysis of survey data. The course concentrates on the economic and social aspects of low-income America.

AAEC 4800 - A study of the theoretical and applied economic aspects of the demand, supply, development and management of water resources. Special emphases on river basin and project planning, benefit-cost analyses, water demands and multiple use management of water resources.
