The vice president of VIT, Vellore Dr. Sekar Viswanathan

has been appointed as the National level Co-Chairman of

the prestigious Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce

and Industry (FICCI) - Higher Education Committee.

VIT Vice President is the Co-Chair of FICCI-HEC

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is

an association of business organisations in India. Established in 1927, on the

advice of Mahatma Gandhi by GD Birla and Purushottam Das Thakurdas, it is

VIT is within the Top 500

World University Ranking by subject is one of the prestigious rankings

of QS, an international ranking agency. Subject ranking indicates the

strength of research output of a university in terms of both quality and

quantity. It also depends on perception about the University subject are-

as by academic and industry leaders. ‘h index’ and citations of research

publications are the other two criteria for subject ranking.

Three subjects of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), India are ranked

by QS in 2019. Two engineering subjects, Computer Science and Infor-

mation System, Electrical and Electronic Engineering are ranked within

the top 500 universities of the world and Chemistry, another subject of

VIT is ranked within the top 550. Other subjects of VIT are doing fine in

research and will be ranked by QS in the coming years as mentioned by

India to obtain the Accreditation Council for

Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP),

USA.

Bachelor of Business Administration Pro-

gram is accredited by Association of Char-

ABET & ACBSP accreditation for VIT

US News Global Universities Rankings (GUR)

ranked 1250 Universities from all over the world in

2018. US News ranked VIT as the best private institu-

tion among 30 institutions ranked from India. US

NABL accreditation for VIT Lab

Strength of materials laboratory is estab-

lished right from the inception of the institute un-

der the School of Civil Engineering. This laborato-

ry is accredited by NABL (National Accredita-

tion Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories),

Govt. of India for the period of two years from Octo-

ber 2018-2020. NABL accreditation is pursued for

nine different tests in the discipline of mechanical

World Summit on SET at University of Cambridge, UK

VIT organized the 1st World Summit on

Advances in Science, Engineering and Tech-

nology at University of Cambridge, UK dur-

ing January 4-6, 2018. The theme of the

summit is moving towards transdisciplinary

approach. 212 delegates from 26 countries at-

tended the conference to discuss about the

current issues of Science, Engineering and

Technology. Eminent Professors from the top

100 universities of the world delivered their

Award to VIT in recognition for

green revolution in Vellore to protect

and rejuvenate Palar River to

conserve natural resources in Vellore

district in the year 2018.

Diamond Rating from QS I-GAUGE

VIT received the Diamond Rating

(Highest rating) from QS I-GAUGE

which also provided Gold and Silver Rat-

ings based on Teaching and Research Per-

formance. Mr G V Selvam, Vice Presi-

dent, VIT, Vellore, received the

QS I-Gauge Diamond Certificate in 2018

from Honorable Pranab Mukherjee, the

former President of India, in the presence

of Prof Virander S Chauhan, Chairman of

NAAC, Mr Ben Sowter, Director, QS,

UK, Ashwin Fernandes, CEO of QS-Era

VIT students won prize in CanSat competition

Team Sammard of VIT bagged the 1st

prize in Asia and 18th overall out of 105

teams in CanSat'18 held in Stephenville,

Texas, USA. CanSat competition is

organized by American Astronautical

Society, U.S Naval Research Laboratory

and co-sponsored by NASA Goddard.

This competition was held at Tarleton

State University, Texas, USA in June

Winner at Motostudent 2018

Team REV Mechanics participated in

Motostudent 2018 held in Spain and

secured 1st Rank in India, 6th rank

among the Rookie Teams and 33 over-

all out of 54 teams from various parts

of the World.

VIT Professor develops Nano bio-composite for the removal of mer-

cury (II) ions from aqueous solution

Faculty members Devlina Das, Lina Rose

Varghese, Nilanjana Mitra of Bioremedia-

tion Laboratory - School of Biosciences

and Technology developed and

patented a nano bio-composite for the

removal of mercury (II) ions from

aqueous solution. The product adopts the

principle of chelation caused as a result of

interaction between a transition metal

(Ni(II)) and post transition metal

(Hg(II)).

VIT student’s paper published in Nature journal

A research article of one of our B.Tech students published in “Nature methods”

in July 2018. The journal has an impact factor of 26.919. The student,

Mr. Jaivarsan is a 3rd year student of B.Tech, Computer Science with

Specialization in Bioinformatics. The Title of the work in “Bioconda: sustaina-

ble and comprehensive software distribution for the life sciences.”

Students’ won the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge

Team Anant, VIT won the

Human Powered Vehicle

Challenge (HPVC) 2018 that held

at Delhi Technical

University (DTU), Delhi. Team

Anant won 1st overall in the Asia

Pacific Region, 1st in Design, 3rd

in Drag (male), 9th in Drag

(female) and 5th in Endurance.

6th rank globally for SAE Aero design

The Team Falcons of VIT, passionate engi-

neers created a flying Beauty for SAE Aero

Design East Competition- 2018 building an

advanced class aircraft with payload drop-

ping mechanism which would be helpful at

disaster-struck areas. They secured 6th posi-

tion in the world at the SAE 2018 Aero De-

sign east competition and 1st position in

Asia. It was held in US during 8th March,

VIT Alumni wins Rocketry Award

Ankita Kalra, VIT Alumna (B.E. Electronics and Instrumentation Engg.) with

her team launched rocket 'Amy'. 140 teams participated around the world which

is regarded as the world's largest intercollegiate rocketry competition. The team

was awarded by SAC.

vation Institute (NJII) Government Af-

fairs and Finance, has been named a
