ODS TOOLBOX: development tool for operational display systems

Barco’s ODS TOOLBOX offers a powerful set of tools to develop operational display systems for highly dynamic applications. Display systems developed with ODS TOOLBOX allow to display an almost unlimited number of highly dynamic objects in near real-time. Moreover, ODS TOOLBOX is able to merge a variety of external information such as fl ight plan or track data, radar sources, map data, and weather data.

OPScenter: standardized components for operational systems from sensor to display

Pre-developed operational tools and software components are essential for rapid prototyping and implementation of operational display systems. With its OPScenter toolset, Barco offers several ready-to-use components for operational display systems, including sensor data processing, system coordination, system management, display, confl ict detection, data management and simulation.

In order to systematically modernize your operations, you can select only the functionality you require, hereby reducing costs and mitigating risks. Barco’s component-based offerings provide you with the fl exibility to upgrade your system incrementally by just selecting those components considered necessary. All OPScenter components are plug-compatible and include standardized interfaces to integrate with third party software in the existing operational environments.

The ODS TOOLBOX is ideally suited for evolutionary HMI development for secure control applications, including rapid prototyping. Furthermore, it provides prefabricated components for building entire display systems. The ODS TOOLBOX already helped to create small to sophisticated visualization systems with more than 3,000 installations worldwide.


ATM tools

OSYRIS: Arrival and Departure Management

Barco has designed its OSYRIS Arrival Manager to increase the airports’ capacities and to reduce controllers’ workload by optimizing the traffi c fl ow. OSYRIS helps to make optimum use of the available resources, to make fl ight operations for the airlines more effi cient, to improve fl ight profi les and avoid holding patterns, thus reducing ecological problems like pollution and noise. The system automatically determines arrival sequences based on aircraft preferred arrival times and given operational constraints. Advanced advice generation for controllers is provided through the OSYRIS Trajectory Predictor.

Barco’s Departure Manager is a new member of the OSYRIS product line. The OSYRIS Departure Manager is based on the algorithms of the Departure Manager prototype from the DLR (German Aerospace Center). This ATM tool supports air traffi c controllers to achieve an optimized departure sequence based on selectable planning and optimization strategies.

The OSYRIS product line provides a perfect tool set to ensure smooth and effi cient traffi c fl ow at major airports. In answer to the ever changing market needs, Barco’s OSYRIS line is constantly being upgraded and extended with new technology.


TELLAR: networked data recording

TELLAR is Barco’s turnkey stand-alone software solution for lossless recording, archiving and playback of full graphics display contents and operator actions.

The system saves and reproduces multiple operator display content for further analysis. This includes search and rescue, event analysis, operator training, fl ight safety analysis, sector monitoring and HMI evaluations. Images can be captured from any workstation and can also be played back on any workstation. TELLAR offers a stand-alone, open solution that can be used in any X11R6 application.

Operational display system information includes graphics display content as well as voice-based procedures. In response to a growing need for combined analysis of voice and display data, TELLAR also features integrated voice recording. This makes TELLAR the most complete solution for operational display system recording.

ARCAS: advanced fl ight schedule management for airports and airlines

Together with Frankfurt Airport, one of the busiest airports in Europe, Barco has developed ARCAS, a modular information system for fl ight schedule and slot management. ARCAS increases effi ciency and transparency in fl ight schedule processing, reporting, mismatching and distribution to signifi cantly improve service quality and airside capacity resource utilization. ARCAS allows to survey the existing slot situation at a glance, and therefore it supports the effi cient exploitation of airport slots.

CHECKUP!: a family of tools for system monitoring and health management

The ability to keep complex hardware and software systems up and running 24/7 is key within life-critical environments such as Air Traffi c Control. Barco has developed CHECKUP!, a family of ATM tools that provide different levels of health management.

SNMP agents allow for the overall supervision of the different components and provide broadcasting warnings, failure messages as well as suggestions for problem solving. Heartbeats allow for an easy check of the system’s operative status.

Barco’s System Monitoring, Control and Failover (SMCF) is an interactive tool for complete system monitoring. The tool combines the status of all system components in a simple overview. SMCF not only monitors the pushed information, but also actively pulls information out of the monitored components. Furthermore, it allows for interaction between those components in order to facilitate fi rst-line troubleshooting and corrective actions.

Barco’s comprehensive monitoring and analysis tools provide detailed loggings and status information of important components, such as the ISIS main displays. Offl ine analysis of data allows for scheduling of preventive maintenance as well as corrective actions.


ATC displays

Barco’s ISIS family of large-size main displays combines performance, low life cycle cost, user comfort and an open system environment into innovative visualization architecture. ISIS’s advanced LCD technology presents an ergonomic, lightweight solution for ATC controller working positions.

Its high brightness, combined with the most effective large viewing angle available, offers more detailed information, enhances user comfort and counteracts eye-fatigue. Moreover, ISIS displays have an extremely low life cycle cost: they do not need regular adjustments and replacing their backlight tray is less expensive and time-consuming than changing a traditional Cathode Ray Tube. The display’s low weight, low power, small volume, high brightness and mechanical fl exibility provide control center designers with a new degree of freedom to reduce plant costs and improve operator comfort and performance.

Today’s Air Traffi c Controllers are using more and more tools to display an ever increasing amount of information. In order to maximize the interactive surface available to a controller in a limited console space, Barco developed the ADP361, an Auxiliary Display Panel series. The ADP361 is perfectly suited to extend the high-resolution surface of today’s 2Kx2K main display panels, while maintaining a good optical match with the main display.

Barco’s series of high-bright Tower Control Displays has been especially designed for operation in bright ambient daylight and dimmed night conditions. The displays are equipped with Barco’s Ambient Light Compensation for optimum brightness settings in changing ambient light conditions. To increase lifetime and improve reliability, special attention is paid to thermal management.

Barco’s network-centric large-screen visualization platforms can bring together information from Air Traffi c Flow Management, Airports, Air Traffi c Control Centers, Aircraft and Airline Operating Centers in a strategic and dynamic layered planning and tactical control system using distributed information. Typically, Barco offers advanced large-screen visualization solutions consisting of high-quality displays, display controllers and wall management software. Multiple rear-screen projection modules can be combined into a display wall of any size. Latest generation graphic controllers allow for virtually unlimited integration of data and video sources into one comprehensive overview. Open wall management software guarantees seamless integration with today’s leading Traffi c Management solutions.

Network-centric visualization

Barco has developed a full range of visualization components that perfectly fi t into the company’s philosophy of network-centric visualization. In this approach, the graphics visualization function is separated as much as possible from the application function, hereby increasing the overall performance of the system and generating more freedom for future reconfi gurations and updates.

Barco’s VISONA display server is a proven graphics visualization component that allows application programs running on any computer anywhere in a network to display visual information on high-resolution displays. The VISONA server acts as a networked graphics device that translates X11 protocol into video for up to 4 display devices, while interfacing with local input devices. VISONA eliminates the need for graphics generation on the application computer, thus increasing overall performance and allowing more advanced system architectures.

Barco’s PVS6 series offers state-of-the-art PCI graphics adapters designed for applications requiring high-performance drawing with high-resolution video output. The PVS6 family provides two independent video outputs up to 2560 x 2048.

With the integrated ISONA display station, Barco takes network-centric visualization one step further. ISONA combines all proven benefi ts of Barco’s advanced ISIS main display and high-performance VISONA server in a single physical unit. The unique architecture of ISONA makes graphics generation on the application computer redundant. That is why ISONA is the perfect answer to the growing demand for tailor-made evolutionary ATC system upgrades.

During the start of your project, Barco experts help you with the design of the visualization system architecture.
