A system of beliefs that place importance on the rights of the individual, and self reliance, above the group

A system of beliefs placing importance on the needs of the group over the rights of the individual

LIBERALISM

A system of beliefs regarding politics that favors individual freedom, progress and reform.

Example: USA highly values liberty after the revolution from Britain

Political – Absence of interference by a sovereign

No one person is above the law, all must obey it

Example: Even Canada’s national leaders can be arrested when they break the rule of law

PRIVATE PROPERTY

All resources and assets are owned by individuals and the government has no control over it.

Example: When oil is found, it belongs to the owner of the land because it is their private property

COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

Each person has some responsibility for the good of all within their group, and the actions of all within their group

Example: When soldiers go overseas, they represent our country so they need to behave well due to the citizens back home having collective responsibility for their actions

Any activity, service etc. that satisfies a concern of the group, improves it in some way, or promotes it

Example: The legal system satisfies the collective interest concerns of everyone in Canada

Orderly sharing of something beneficial for everyone involved

Example: During WWII the allies cooperated in order to accomplish a goal.

INDIVIDUAL IDENTITY

The set of characteristics that an individual exhibits which defines who they are

Example: I have characteristics, such as always doing whatever favors are asked of me, that I am known for and make up my individual identity.

COLLECTIVE IDENTITY

The set of characteristics that are exhibited by a group that set them apart from others

Example: Languages and how groups communicate set them apart from others, and become their collective identity. Such as Canadians and “Eh?”
