Using Catalogs Lighlroom 2 now makes it practical to keep all you r Images In a single catalog. Thal "S II welcome change from the first ,'crsion. which often forced photographers to spreud their photos across multiple Lightroom catalogs to avoid slowdowns.

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Light room. see "To import it Lightroom version ! cat alog" on the next page. If you're starting fresh with \'ersion 2, Lighl rootll aut o­matically creates a new catalog the first tnnc you Import any photos. as aJn:!ady explained in "To import irn(lgcs' on page J 6. As you ndd

photos. that catalog keeps track of where the original images arc slored.

The ~]jghts out ~ feature lets you dim o r hide every part of the ughtroolll interface CJ(cept

the photos. lhe stacking feature lel.s you gather a bunch o f similnr images and ~stack"

them. much as rou might bunch upslides

on a n o ld light table to concentrate o n the remaining photos. You can even automati­cally stack photos. which is particularly use­

ful for tidying up contiguous. same-subject photos such n.~ bursts of motor-driw. sho ts,

panorama seque nces. or br:lckcted HDR (I ligh Dynamic Range) exposures.

To dim or tu rn off the lights:

1. Sl.'lect the photos o n which you wanl to concentrate (Figure 4.1 ). In any mOOulc:

Organizing and Reviewing Images

To auto-stack photos by capture time:

1. Select the photos ),OU want to stack. It can be an enUre folder. a single pho to seSSiOn, o r t he results o f a photo search
