The Season Opening Spectacular, produced
as a stunning collaboration with the Ballet and
Philharmonic, presents Beethoven in a bold,
groundbreaking style to open the 2018–2019
Season of Vistas. Fully staged productions of
Verdi’s heart-wrenching drama Rigoletto and
Gilbert and Sullivan’s rollicking comedy The
Pirates of Penzance follow in November and
March. Next is our Star Recital with singer Ryan
Speedo Green, whose rise from tenements
to the Met stage is amazing and uplifting. A
semistaged Strauss’s Salome then brings the
opera season to a thunderous close in May.

Classical music is presented in a panorama
of options, all sure to delight both novice and
expert. Masterworks—the DPO’s flagship
series—brings dynamic soloists and major
classical compositions to the fore. Sensational
works for piano, violin, flute and bassoon are
performed by artists both long established
and on the ascent. Symphonies that have
shaken the world will also shake the Mead
Theatre stage. The Sundae Classics series
is a new evolution of Classical Connections.
There will be five performances that more
closely echo their Masterworks counterparts,
and Neal’s comments will be more concise
with fewer demonstrations. Included is one
concert in the Classical Connections style:
an in-depth look at the Beatles’ legendary
Sgt. Pepper’s album with guest rock group
Classical Mystery Tour. The Chamber series has
evolved into the Recital Series, including two
chamber concerts at the Dayton Art Institute,
the Opera vocalist recital and a Wildcard!
This season, the Family Series includes the
family favorite PhilharMonster, plus matinee
performances of both The Nutcracker and
The Pirates of Penzance. SuperPops continues
to excel as a series of unparalleled popular
music experiences, and Rockin’ Orchestra
brings a powerful orchestral dimension to
rock ’n’ roll classics.
