Youth Mission Trip Stock available now!
The Youth and Sponsors of Sierra Vista, are about to head out on
our first of 2 missions trips. The Jr. High trip is set for June 5th -
10th to the Canyon Lake Area to work with Quest Ranch. We’ll be
building wall panels, floor panels and trusses to help build homes
for people who have lost their houses in the recent Texas flooding. The Sr. High trip
will be July 2nd -July 8th; we’ll be going to the Dallas area to work with Christ For The
City International, working with all age levels of the disadvantaged and homeless,
from senior citizens to pre-k. These trips we be wonderful adventures and great new
experiences for our Youth. This year, we expect to have 35 or so youth and adults par-
ticipate in the Mission Trips.
We’re asking if you would like to make a donation of Mission Trip Stock to help pay
for these trips. The cost per person is about $400-$450, so we need to raise about
$15,000. We appreciate all you already do for us! If you are interested in donating,
there will be mission trip donation forms in the registration pads or you can just send in
a check marked mission trip!

Dear friends and family of Sierra Vista,
When Stan asked me to share with you the experience I have had so far as Director of our church's literacy
program called SummerS.A.L.T. (Summer Studying and Learning Together), I jumped at the chance to
share my many blessings. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be changed so profoundly.
Thankfully, God prepares the called because he has opened so many doors to make this program a success.
We have had volunteers from the church offer to be a part of the teaching and support staff and just the
right teachers applied for the jobs.
Members have come forward to fi-
nancially cover the cost of a teacher's
salary, t-shirts for the Alta Loma chil-
dren attending and the overall cost of
the reading camp. I've talked with Al-
ta Loma parents who are excited and
eager for their children to receive this
support in June.
When I have told friends outside of
the church about this reading pro-
gram, their response, (and this has
been told to me often), "What is it
about you Sierra Vista people? You
are always reaching out and doing
God's work in the most unique ways!"
So I close by challenging you to be
open when you are offered an oppor-
tunity to serve in "the most unique
ways." Whether it is the Children's
Bed Project, the mission trip to Hon-
duras, a children's reading camp, or
who knows what ideas God has in
store for you. I promise that you will
be the one most blessed.
2nd Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able
to bless you abundantly, so that in all
things at all times, having all that you
need, you will abound in every good
work.”
Abundantly blessed,
Melinda Springer

Janice McCart - Miracle in Ghana
Janice was Chief Operating Officer and Chief
Nursing Officer in a hospital in Virginia. When a
colleague told her of the non-existent healthcare in
a remote area of Ghana, Janice heard herself say
“let’s build a clinic.” Although she had no experi-
ence in raising massive amounts of money or at-
tempting such a project, through her efforts God
accomplished a miracle that has affected and saved
the lives of many people. Janice will tell her rivet-
ing story as she presents her wonderful slide
presentation.

Summer Sunday School
May 28 will begin the summer format for chil-
dren’s Sunday school. This summer, all kids who
have completed kindergarten through 5th grade
will meet in the Children’s Building (Preschool).
K through 2nd grade will meet in Room C-4, and
the older elementary kids will meet in Room C-3.
Summer Mission Work
for Older Elementary Kids
Once again, kids at Sierra Vista are teaming up
with other United Methodist children in San Ange-
lo to do service projects this summer at various
locations throughout the Concho Valley. “Mission:
Possible” is geared toward all kids who will be en-
tering the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in fall, 2017.
We will plan on two outings a month from
approximately 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Our
first two times together will be June 2nd
and 16th. Parents can drop-off and pick-up
in the front Sierra Vista parking lot. Kids
will meet at Sierra Vista, travel to the
“mission site” on the SVUMC bus, and
have a fun lunch afterwards.
We will also be getting t-shirts for the kids to wear
on our mission mini-trips. Email now if you need
to order shirt(s) for your child(ren).
Preschool Teacher Training Day
This summer, Sierra Vista UMC will be hosting a
training day for early education teachers who are
certified daycare workers by the State of Texas.
The training day will be on Saturday, July 23, from
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is a $20 registration
fee that includes all materials, as well as lunch.
Walk-ins will also be welcome at an increased reg-
istration rate.
Summer Interns
This summer, Sierra Vista’s kids will be blessed by
two college interns working in Children’s Minis-
tries:
My name is Tucker Young, and I am a 2017 gradu-
ate of Wall High School. In the fall of 2017, I will
be attending Texas Tech University to major in
Theatre. After graduation from college, I plan to
become a theatre teacher. I thoroughly enjoy work-
ing with kids in any way possible. Over the past
two years, I have worked in the Sierra Vista Nurse-
ry and with the KICK program on Wednesday’s. I
am very excited to see God working in my own
life, as well as the kids that I am with this next
summer.
My name is Danielle Crowder and I grew up in
Eldorado, Texas. We moved to San Angelo this
past November. I am currently attending South-
western University in Georgetown, Texas, as a psy-
chology major, and I am a member of the softball
team. I love working with kids, I love Jesus, and I
am so excited to see God work through the children
at Sierra Vista this summer!

family of 4 spend a night in the Ronald
McDonald House. Thank you for all your
support!

Secret Prayer Partners Needed
Secret Prayers partners are working their
magic! I have heard wonderful things from
the youth about their prayer partners! If
you haven’t sent a card to your yet, please
do that this week! Thanks again for saying
yes! Being a prayer partner is an easy way to make
a HUGE difference!
Grace & Grub
The last Grace & Grub for the year was May 11th.
A big thank you to all who helped bring goodies
throughout this school year. Feeding 150 to 200
hungry youth once a month is no small task. I ap-
preciate all you do, not only for the Sierra Vista
Youth, but for the youth of San Angelo. What a
great community outreach… and YOU are part of
that!
A Big Thank You to the Junior Class
This year we celebrated 14 Graduating Seniors.
The Junior class parents cooked a fabulous meal
and their youth along with the rest of them… deco-
rated the gym (crazily… but really cool!), served
them, then undecorated the gym and helped put
everything away! We are so blessed to have faithful
parents and their youth.
Summer UMYF
Beginning Sunday June 11th, UMYF will begin
meeting from 5-7 pm unless stated otherwise on
your weekly postcard. Each week we will have a
different activity, so the times will vary some
weeks… SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR CARD!
Summer Sunday School
Beginning June 5th, all youth 6th through 12th will
meet in Life Center Room 102.
Senior Scholarships
Sierra Vista will be giving 4 - $500 dollar scholar-
ships to graduating seniors this year. This money is
not in our budget, it comes from you! If you are
looking for a place to donate some money, we hope
you will consider donating to this fund. You can
make it in honor or memory of a loved one and it
will be a great way to support four deserving sen-
iors from this church.
