United Methodist Church Mission
To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
OUR MISSION
Our Mission is to reach out to others to help them meet their needs and
to welcome them into our family of faith as we gather for worship, fellowship, education and service.
Vista de la Montaña United Methodist Church
* Please stand as you are comfortable
(Please write your Celebrations and Concerns in the Prayer Book on the stand in the back of the
Sanctuary. These will be read and prayed for during the Sharing of Concerns and Celebrations.)
COUNTDOWN & PRELUDE “Healing”
WELCOME & GREETING Rev. Fred Baum
*OPENING HYMN “Rejoice, the Lord Is King” No. 715
*CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 19:1-4a
Leader: The heavens declare the glory of God;
People: the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Leader: Day after day they pour forth speech;
People: night after night they reveal knowledge.
Leader: They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from
them.
People: Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the
ends of the world.
*CONFESSION OF FAITH The Apostle’s Creed, Ecumenical Version
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day
he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God
the Father, and will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church, the communion of
saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life
everlasting. Amen. *“Universal”
EPISTLE LESSON Colossians 2:13-15
13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made
you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,14 having canceled the charge of our
legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away,
nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a
public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
TIME WITH CHILDREN & YOUTH Valerie Hammons
PREPARATION FOR PRAYER No. 175
“Jesus the Very Thought of Thee”
PASTORAL PRAYER Rev. Alan Campbell
SHARING OF CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS Rev. Fred Baum
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For
thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
HYMN “Open My Eyes, That I May See” No. 454
OFFERING “The Lord’s My Shepherd” (arr. Gordon Jacob) Mary Bellah “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—
his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood
from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” ~ Romans 1:20
*DOXOLOGY “Father, We Praise Thee” (3) No. 680
*PRAYER OF DEDICATION Rev. Fred Baum
GOSPEL LESSON Luke 23:32-43 32
Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33
When
they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the
criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. 34
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them,
for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting
lots. 35
The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He
saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” 36
The
soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37
and said, “If
you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.” 38
There was a written notice above him,
which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 39
One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah?
Save yourself and us!” 40
But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he
said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41
We are punished justly, for we are
getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42
Then he said,
“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43
Jesus answered
him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Leader: This is the word of God for the people of God.
People: Thanks be to God!

Revelation 20:11-12
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens
fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and
small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened,
which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as
recorded in the books.
