St. Michaels offers a quiet charm, peaceful haven for a day, weekend or vacation. Stroll the historic streets where lovingly restored homes welcome you to take a step back in time. Historic sites, enchanting Inns, Bed & Breakfasts and Museums give you the feeling of what was once a thriving Colonial village and is now home to many who are a bit resistant to the hustle and bustle of modern life. Just a leisurely drive from Baltimore, Washington and Philadelphia, St. Michaels not only offers a quiet escape, but don’t be surprised if we keep you busy (if you want to be.) While shopping and dining are very popular pastimes, the beautiful Miles River and St. Michaels Harbor offers boaters and sailors and those who just like to be near the water, the perfect destination. For the serious sportsman, excellent fishing and guided hunting make St. Michaels a year-round getaway. Cycling enthusiasts find St. Michaels a must-stop on their itinerary. Many fine restaurants, lovely places to stay and interesting shops add to the ambience, making St. Michaels a visitor’s delight. We hope you’ll join us.

To help you locate your destination on the map, note the letter number reference at the end of each listing.
In the dark morning hours of August 10, 1813, the British planned an attack on the town. The residents of tiny St. Michaels, forewarned, hoisted lanterns to the masts of ships and in the tops of the trees, tricking the British by causing the cannons to overshoot the town. The “blackout” was effective and only one house, now known as “ The Cannonball House” was struck. A cannon ball penetrated the roof and rolled-down the staircase as Mrs. Merchant carried her infant daughter downstairs. The house still exists as a private residence. St. Michaels derived its name from the Episcopal Parish established here in 1877. The church attracted settlers who engaged in tobacco growing and ship building.

St. Michaels “Paints The Town”. A major destination for the art com-munity, artists are invited to capture the “essence of the Eastern Shore”. Midnight Madness
St. Michaels FRESHFARM Market. Saturdays, 8:30-11:30 a.m., from April 17- Oct. 9 at Church Cove (Muskrat Park).
