Human Factors Branch Welcome and Introduction
The FAA is embarking on the complete modernization of the U.S. National Airspace System, known as NextGen. New technologies will significantly improve safety, capacity, and efficiency on runways and in the nation's skies.
Ensuring that the new system of technologies, procedures, hardware, and software is consistent with human capabilities is the role of human factors. Now is a crucial and exciting time to be part of human factors research and development in the FAA.
We welcome you to join us as we work to understand and optimize the human side of technology and operations.

TO THE WILLIAM J. HUGHES TECHNICAL CENTER
FROM NEW YORK CITY AND NORTH JERSEY: Take Garden State Parkway (toll) south to Exit 44. Make right turn and stay on county route 575 for 4.7 miles (cross US-30) to the fourth traffic signal. At county route 563 (Tilton Road) turn left and go about 2.5 miles to the traffic circle, proceed three-quarters plus around the circle, and follow signs to Passenger Terminal/William J. Hughes Technical Center.OR: Garden State Parkway (toll) to Exit 38, off right (Philadelphia via Atlantic City Expressway) proceed to exit 9W (toll) turn right on county route 646 (Delilah Road), proceed to traffic circle about .5 mile, continue three-quarters around the circle, and follow signs to Passenger Terminal/William J. Hughes Technical Center.
FROM WASHINGTON, D.C./ BALTIMORE, MARYLAND: Take I-95 North to I-295 and cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge (toll). After crossing bridge proceed east on US-40 (follow signs for Atlantic City). Continue for about 50 miles to intersection of US-322 (Black Horse Pike). A large shopping center and the Atlantic City Race Course will be on your left. Proceed about one mile on US-40/322, turn left on county route 646 (Delilah Road), and follow signs to FAA Technical Center and Atlantic City International Airport via Delilah Road. Continue for about 2.5 miles to traffic circle. Go three-quarters around the circle, and follow signs to Passenger Terminal/William J. Hughes Technical Center.
FROM PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA/CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY: Take the Walt Whitman bridge and/or route 42 (North-South Freeway) to the Atlantic City Expressway (toll). Depart expressway at Exit 9E, make left at end of exit ramp on county route 646, (Delilah Road) and proceed for .5 mile to traffic circle. Go three-quarters around the circle and follow signs to Passenger Terminal/William J. Hughes Technical Center.

FROM ATLANTIC CITY VIA EXPRESSWAY: Enter the Atlantic City Expressway via Arkansas and Atlantic or Arctic Avenues (near Convention Hall). Proceed through the toll plaza and exit at 9W (toll). Turn right off exit ramp on to county route 646 (Delilah road) proceed to traffic circle about .5 mile, continue three-quarters around the circle, and follow signs to William J. Hughes Technical Center.
Rail Station Schedule Egg Harbor is the closest station to the Technical Center on NJ Transit. NJ Transit connects with Amtrak trains at Philadelphia 30th Street.
Parking *Special parking and security will be set up for the DoD TAG.Once you are on Amelia Earhart Blvd there will be signs directing you to a gate on the right where you will park and obtain a pass (just before the Security Operations Center Building). There will be personnel available to check you in. Please have your ID. Once you are checked in someone will direct you to the shuttle van/bus. The shuttle van/bus will take you to the meeting location within the main building of the William J. Hughes Technical Center.
*Please let us know in advance if you are planning on flying your own aircraft in so that we can make arrangements at the hangar.
*Please do not bring firearms (such as service revolvers) with you.

It is illegal to talk on a hand-held cell phone or text while driving in NJ.
It is illegal to pump your own gas in NJ. You must wait for an attendant to help you.
There are many traffic circles in NJ, and local rules apply about who has the right of way. The circle at the Tech Center has yield signs for traffic entering the circle.
You often have to turn right to go left. NJ uses a lot of “jug handles” where you turn right and loop around rather than allowing left turns.
On roads that have four or more lanes, you must drive in the right hand lane and only use the left hand lane for passing.

Foreign nationals must fill out and submit FAA form 1600-78 (see the next two pages) and be approved prior to the visit. Please submit the form no later than April 12th, 2017.
