NUMINOUS COFFEE ROASTERS
DEFINING A FAVORITE
Numinous (adj.): Being in the presence of something greater than yourself. This term was coined by Rudolf Otto and brought to life by Numinous Coffee Roasters in Marble Falls. Their in-house roasts, classic teas, and scratch-made bakery items have earned the reputation of being one of the local favorites.
3½ cups flour
½ cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
Zest of 1 lemon
1 cup candied ginger, diced
2 sticks of butter, diced
2 cups heavy cream
½ cup milk
Numinous Ginger SconeYields 10 scones
Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
Add the zest, ginger, and butter to flour mixture. Mix until
coated in flour. Add the liquids and mix until combined
(probably best by hand). Flour your work area and roll the
dough out ~2/3" thick. Cut out round or whatever shaped
scones you like!
After shaping, scones can be wrapped and frozen, or baked
right away. Before baking, brush scones with cream and
sprinkle sugar on top for an extra treat!
Bake at 350° for 20-30 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy!

Dave and Quynh Rathkamp, owners of Save the World Brewing, saved lives before they started saving the world. Both former pediatricians, Dave and Quynh were inspired after visiting the Trappist Monks in Belgium where they saw monks brewing beers and giving their profits to charity. With Dave’s passion for beer and Quynh’s passion for philanthropy, they agreed to turn in their white coats, move to Marble Falls, and open up one of the first 100% philanthropic breweries in the nation. So you may ask, why just Belgian style beers? Dave’s answer is
because of the time, science, and level of care needed for just one brew. Just try their sours that have been brewing for close to 6 years! Dave’s favorite beer is the PRINCEPS PACIS (Prince of Peace), but that might be because he won gold at the Great American Beer Festival for it. Known as “Marble Falls' Backyard” come Friday nights, you’ll find all the locals here. Come for the great beer, and stay for the great conversation.
Follow the yellow hop road.

A terroir worth tasting.Ter·roir (noun) : The complete natural environment in which a particular wine
is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate.
The Texas Hill Country is known for its wine scene, and Marble Falls is at the heart of both.
Classic varietals, experimental ideas, and wide-open spaces—here's to finding your favorites.
10 QUESTIONS TO ASK AT A WINERY
1. What are the grape varieties used in this wine? This will tell you the wine’s composition,
giving you the basic essentials to better
understand the general properties and
origins of wines.
2. What types of grapes are grown at this vineyard? There are over 10,000 varieties of grapes
in the world, inspiring wineries to create
signature blends based on the region they
reside in.
3. How long are your wines aged? The timeline of wine aging varies based
on grape varietal, fermentation technique
and desired flavor.
4. How does barrel-aging change the flavors of your wines?Barrel aging gives wine a unique, oak-like
flavor. And steel barrel-aging offers
a different profile. After enough wine
tasting, you may be able to identify
a barrel-aged wine from a wine that
undergoes a different fermentation
process.
5. How are your wines fermented?Fermentation processes vary by winery,
wine type, and region. Differences in
fermentation techniques determine
sugar-alcohol content—and flavor.
6. How do you know when a wine is at its peak?Winemakers can identify a wine’s peak
years, indicating when one should drink it
to enjoy the best flavor.
7. What would you pair these wines with? Most wineries will have recommendations
about spices or recipes that pair well with
their wines.
8. What is your go-to wine for each season?Often, wine preference mirrors food
preference, meaning seasonal flavor
choices will translate to seasonal wine
recommendations.
9. Are any of your wines a blend?“Blended” refers to wine that is
composed of more than one grape
varietal, sometimes from the same
vineyard, sometimes from different
regions, to create new flavors.
10. At what temperature should this wine be served to ensure the best flavor? The temperature at which a wine
is served will greatly impact its flavor.
The ideal temperature varies based on
the type of wine.
Steps for tasting wineThere’s so much wine to savor in and around Marble Falls. So to taste like a sommelier, remember the four S method. Salud!
1. See
EVALUATE BY SIGHT
Assess the wine’s visual character.
Varieties in color, haziness, and thickness
are clues to a wine’s type and origin.
2. Swirl
AERATE THE FLAVOR
Release the aromatics of the wine’s flavor
by giving the glass a swirl, allowing air to
flow through it. Wine glasses are uniquely
crafted to allow space for this step to take
place.
3. Smell
IDENTIFY FLORAL AROMAS
Capturing the flavor’s scent helps to
determine whether a wine is young or old.
Newer wines will have pungent aromas,
while older wines will have subtle floral
undertones.
4. Sip
SAVOR THE TASTE
Tasting the wine should confirm your
interpretation of the flavor’s bouquet. Take
note of whether the wine releases floral,
herb, mineral, or barrel flavors. Then
neutralize your palate, and it’s on to the
next tasting.

Canoe. Rod. Bait. Bliss. If you’re a lake town, then you’re a fishing town. So grab some gear and let’s get
to casting. Lake Marble Falls is home to a hearty population of large mouth bass (we’re talking up to 10 pounds). And catfish, striped bass, and even carp are known
to swirl just beneath the surface. Fish in splendid solitude, or join in one of the local tournaments. Whether you’re in a kayak, on a SUP, or perched on the banks
of Johnson Park, it’s easy to put yourself right where they’re biting.

DOWN WHERE THE WHITE BASS RUN
The warm weather in early spring and late fall really brings out the bass.
The White Bass Run in March and April is when white bass leave the depths
of the lake to spawn in the shallow creeks. With a legal catch limit of 25 fish
per day, you won’t go home empty handed on your gone fishin’ day.
Fishing licenses are not required in state parks.

imagery with contemporary
expressionism, the collection is
sure to feed your soul.
Located on Main Street in Marble

DANIEL ADAMS
Daniel Adams was drawn to
Marble Falls for its acceptance
of artists and the potential for
community growth, and much of
his work is featured in the galleries
around town. He looks forward
to the impact of new downtown
development and how it can
positively impact both art and
culture in Marble Falls. Adams
views the arts community here as
very professional yet quite varied
in levels, ranging from amateur
interests to inspiring.
When not working, he enjoys
visiting other galleries and meeting
colleagues, community events
including “Sculpture on Main”, the
activities sponsored by the library,
and the resurgence of the Uptown
Theatre among other initiatives.
Beyond art, Adams appreciates the
natural beauty available because of
the parks and the water. He is also
an avid disc golfer.

The History of Marble FallsEstablished in 1887 on the hillside above the Colorado River, Marble Falls quickly became a bustling Hill Country hub. With a population of over 1,800 in just ten years, Marble Falls grew with the vision of industrial commerce powered by the river. The dams that created Lake Marble Falls were fully realized in 1951, and by the 1970s, word got out that Marble Falls was a great place for lakeside tourism and recreation. And today, well, here you are. Welcome!

was driven by transparency and
safety, publishing the Marble
Falls budget, and cleaning up the
town. Her home at 119 Avenue G
