Thodupuzha, the entry point, is 65 km eastof Kochi. District capital Painavu, 40 kmaway, is the access point for the dams onthe Periyar River that are the highlights ofthis region. The Malankara Reservoir, spreadover 11 km, is a popular picnic spot. A steepclimb up the 2,685-foot-high Kurusha Parahill offers a breathtaking view of thereservoir and the plantations around.Thomankuttu is a series of cascadingwaterfalls. Rainbow Waterfalls, surroundedby lush forests, gush down from 4,921 ft, 25km from Thodupuzha. Said to be among thehighest peaks in Kerala, the KudayathoorMala rises 3,680 ft. The Chola-stylearchitecture of the ancient AnnamalaiTemple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, remainspretty much as it was.

1 Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Idukki District, Munnar, Kerala,685612, India
Located 18 km north of Marayoor, ChinnarWildlife Sanctuary is one of twelve WildlifeSanctuaries among the Protected areas ofKerala. This well-maintained sanctuary islocated at a distance of 60 kilometres fromMunnar in the rain shadow region of theWestern Ghats of Kerala. TowardsMarayoor, the park spreads over an area of90.44 sq. km. The sanctuary is covered withdense green foliage making it look muchbigger than it really is. Due to the significantdifferences in altitude and rainfall, it has awide range of habitat types like dry thornyforest, deciduous forests, sholas, ripariantypes and grasslands that are interspersedover hillocks, plains, rocks and cliffsproviding suitable habitats for varied formsof life. The rivers make this place ideal fordifferent varieties of birds along withendangered giant grizzled squirrel, leopards,tigers, peacocks, elephants, reptiles,
monkeys and exotic butterflies. If you wantto trek remember that a prior permission isrequired to enter the sanctuary for trekkingfrom the forest office in Munnar. Apart fromtrekking, you can also enjoy scenic beauty ofThooyanam Waterfalls and camping withthe sanctuary.
2 Idukki Dam
Between Kuravanmala andKurathimala Mountains,Idukki
Situated between the mountains of Kuravanand Kurathi, Idukki Dam is the highest inKerala. 550 feet tall and 650 metres wide, itis world's second and Asia's first arch dam.The gigantic hydro structure is thepowerhouse of electricity. It is shaped in theform of arch in order to grab the gift ofnature. You can also enjoy the boatingaround the dam area. Usually the dam openaround the festival of Onam. Therefore it isworth going around that time.
3 Dreamland Spices Park
