Objective

Developing tourism and strengthening the sector by establishing the “Tourist Destination Jalal-Abad” and launching the “Tourism Business Club” to promote economic growth, youth and women entrepreneurship, tourism standards as well as increased popularity of Jalal-Abad region as a destination and its key locations such as Jalal-Abad city, Arslanboband Sary-Chelek.

Strengthening rural tourism development in

Jalal-Abad region for income generation

(Sept. 2019 – Dec. 2021)

Kyrgyz Community Based Tourism Association (KCBTA)

An umbrella association uniting 15 destinations (“CBT groups”) throughout Kyrgyzstan.

Co-applicant: Fair and Sustainable Development Solutions (FSDS)

Total budget: 248 482 EUR

Objective

Boosting profitable, competitive and green rural tourism in Jalal-Abad through:

1) improved and diversified tourism products of the existing local CBT associations in Sary-Chelek, Arstanbap, Jalal-Abad city and Kazarman;

2) establishment of new local CBT associations in Toktogul, Kara-Alma and Padysh-Ata.

Approach

Improving technical and institutional capacities of CBTs and their associated service providers to be competitive, profitable and sustainable business owners and service providers;

- Strengthening 4 existing CBTs to provide improved and diversified products;

- Establishing 3 new CBTs to provide tourism products;

- Income generation for local suppliers within tourism value chain;

- Promoting green tourism through CBT actions;

- Marketing of Jalal-Abad tourism.

Expected Results/ Key Indicators

7 CBTs, 7*25=175 CBT SMEs + 7*50=350 suppliers = 525 households 350 additional jobs, 125 000 KGS income generation per household in average

Establishing Sustainable Onion Value Chain

in Nooken Rayon

(August 2019- August 2022)

TES-Center - one of the leading advisory services in the field of agriculture with more than 20 years of experience and more than 500 successfully implemented projects.

Co-applicants: Microcredit Association "Agrocredit Plus" and PA "Aral Elim Barsynby?"

Total budget: 248 436 EUR

Objectives

-Increasing the income of target households;

-Establishing a self-financing and self-regulating system of production and marketing of onions;

-Forming farmer groups and cooperatives;

Target-group: 300 small and medium farm villages in Nooken rayon, 40% of which are low-income families.

Approach

-Forming farmer groups and cooperatives;

-Training local field consultants;

-Establishing "Revolving Funds";

-Providing quality inputs;

-Capacity building of all members of the chain;

-Expanding the range of services and improving the quality of services provided by MTS by purchasing modern agricultural machinery;

-Promoting product marketing.

Expected Results / Key Indicators

300 households (of which 120 are poor) increase income by more than 50%. Yield is increased by more than 40%. 23 new jobs are created.

Improvement of Rainfed Land Productivity

in Bazar-Korgon Rayon

(August 2019 – July 2022)

Public Association “Agrolead” - consulting organisation in the agricultural sector

Total budget: 249 574 EUR

Objective

Increase profitability of rainfed lands by introducing direct sowing, suitable varieties and good agricultural practices and promotion of autumn sowing for rainfed wheat and barley (which leads to an increase in household income)

Target area:

Rainfed areas of Bazar-Korgon rayon

Target group:

All farmers owning rainfed land in the target area (aims: 10% women, 20% young people up to 28 years of age, 40% vulnerable households)

Approach

1. Introducing technical solutions for improved productivity of rainfed land (direct sowing, improved varieties, appropriate input use) including field trials

2. Organising sustainable access to required machinery, seeds, other inputs and know-how through revolving funds, seeder services and trained village advisers

3. Developing capacity of rainfed farmer groups and uniting them into umbrella organisations (cooperative or association)

Creation of a Sustainable System of Wheat and

Barley Cultivation on Rainfed Lands of Suzak Rayon

(August 2019 – August 2022)

Objective

- Increasing income of target farmers;

- Preserving soil fertility;

- Integrated development of wheat and barley value chains;

Target group:

- Farm households in Suzak rayon, with priority on vulnerable groups of population.

Target region:

Suzak rayon.

Approach

-Establishing the cooperative;

-Equipping the cooperative with modern agricultural machinery;

-Establishing "Revolving Funds";

-Providing the cooperative with qualityinputs;

-Training local field advisors;

-Improving the rainfed land cultivation system;

- Supporting the product sales.

Expected results/ Key indicators

300 households, total area of rainfed land at least 900 ha. 24 new jobs are created. More than 20% of farmers are among vulnerable groups of population. Yield increased by 70%, income - by 50%.

Establishing Production and

Export of Organic Cotton

(October 2019- August 2022)

Agricultural Commodity and Service Cooperative “Bio Farmer” – the only cooperative in the Kyrgyz Republic, growing organic cotton.

Total Budget: 248 274 EUR

Objectives

-Increasing the income of the project participants;

-Preserving and increasing soil fertility;

-Strengthening the export potential of the cooperative;

-Creating favourable conditions for cooperative members;

-Creating favourable conditions for women and youth.

Target-group:

Farmers of Suzak, Bazar-Korgon and Nookenrayons.

Approach

-Attracting new farmers to the cooperative;

-Regular trainings for cooperative members;

-Regular fields monitoring;

-Establishing "Seed Fund";

-Establishing machine tractor station at the cooperative;

-Providing farmers with inputs;

-Organisation of organic cotton certification;

-Guaranteed marketing at Fairtrade Price.

Expected Results / Key Indicators

More than 450 new farmers, 180 of them are women and youth, 180 from low-income families are involved. The income of each farm increases by more than 21%. Nine new farmer groups are

established. 450 new jobs are created.

Intensive production and processing of maize

to increase the income of farmers in Ala-Buka

“Bio Service” Public Foundation provides consulting services with focus on the organic farming in Central Asia.Co-applicants: Jalal-Abad Regional Rural Advisory Service, Microcredit Agency “BeshAral”

Total budget: 249 450 EUR

Objectives

- Increasing farmers’ income

- Establishing sustainable value chain (VC);

- Promoting marketing.

Target Region:Ala-Buka Raion, 5 Ayil Aimaks

Target group:600 households (25% vulnerable households)

Approach

-Creating technically-equipped cooperative;

-Introducing modern corn growing technologies;

-Creating revolving funds;

-Organising network among VC members;

-Establishment of mini factories for production of mixed fodders and enrichment of glauconite;

-Consulting farmers;

-Regular monitoring;

-Disseminating the experience.

Expected Results/ Key Indicators600 farmers double their yields. Advanced technology is used on 300 ha. A cooperative is formed. 150 poor

households have access to revolving funds and opportunity to grow. 14 permanent jobs are created. Two production

units are established.
