6 GUELPH + Area Guide 2013
Visitors are drawn to Guelph’svibrant lifestyle, its cultural and historical festivities, recreational opportunities
and an abundance of natural spaces. Creative cultural tourism has emerged
from Guelph’s vital heritage, arts and cultural assets and is based on the
idea of off ering authentic experiences to our visitors. Nationally known
festivals such as the Guelph Jazz Festival and Hillside Festival are just a
few examples of the exciting events that Guelph is home to.
The University of Guelph is a renowned destination within itself, and is
home to thousands of students and faculty who call Guelph home year
round. Alumni Stadium now boasts a new synthetic fi eld and eight
lane, international caliber track and fi eld events facility. We are happy to
welcome CFL fans to Guelph in 2013/2014 when the Hamilton Ti-Cats
temporarily move home games to Gryphon’s Alumni Stadium!
Guelph’s Downtown has undergone a major transformation in the last
3 years. Visitors can now experience:
• An inter-modal transit terminal designed to improve connections
between Guelph’s local bus service and regional public transit systems
including Greyhound, GO Transit and VIA Rail.
• Market Square which provides an expansive setting for civic and
cultural events right outside City Hall, along with ice skating in the
winter and a splash pad in the summer!
• A Civic Museum clustered with a National Historic Site,
Church of Our Lady Immaculate

What is Taste Real? Taste Real off ers memorable and authentic local food tourism
experiences for everyone to savour.
From farm to table, Taste Real is passionate about the way food
is grown, prepared, presented and enjoyed.
Who is Taste Real? The Taste Real program is made up of over 120 local businesses
that work together and support each other. They are farmers,
growers, processors, chefs, and entrepreneurs; they are your
neighbours and your friends.
To fi nd these businesses, pick up a copy of the 2013 Taste
Real local food map at local libraries, tourism offi ces, farmers’
markets, and retail locations throughout Guelph and
Wellington County.
Look for the Taste Real sign at regional farms, businesses, and
on prepared food to ensure that you’re supporting the local
agricultural community. Ask to hear the story about the food
you’re buying or tasting! Taste Real partners are always happy
to share their stories.
