22nd Old Boys F.C.Club Development plan

Club Background and Introduction

The 22nd Old Boys FC were formed in 1952 as a five aside football team and progressed to an eleven aside team in 1954. The club was formed out of the 22nd Boys Brigade affiliated to Woodvale Presbyterian Church of which the 22nd has maintained this important relationship. Over the years the 22nd have grown, had their high and low points and at present are running 3 teams. Having spent a long time competing in the Boys Brigade Old Boys league the 22nd moved the 22ndA and 22ndB to the Belfast and District League leaving the 22ndC to continue to compete in BBOB league. The club draws members from all over the greater Belfast area and further afield. The club has at present in place a strong functioning committee, social committee, qualified football coaches and first aiders.

Club Vision

The 22nd Old Boys aim to continue to be a high quality junior football club who maximise the potential for young footballers to participate and excel in football. We are a community football club driving for success, sporting participation and performance across a wide age group and cultures within our community, ensuring an enjoyable experience for members both on and off the pitch.

Club Mission

To provide opportunities for young people to participate in football, develop their skills and attain their full sporting potential. Our aim is to attract as many men as possible to play football, socialise and learn in a safe and comfortable environment. We hope to train as many of our members as possible in coaching, first aid and any other relevant courses. To achieve success on the field of football, to celebrate it, promote fair play and equality.

Page 4: VISION Development Plan 2015... · Web viewSPORTS DEVELOPMENT PLAN This Sports Development Plan is for increasing participation in football and activity in the Upper Shankill /Woodvale

Club Values

Our vision is underpinned by the following values:

An open and inclusive club, welcoming all. Valuing the contribution of the club’s volunteers. Responsive to the needs of club members. Being open, responsive and accountable. Seeking best value for money. Promoting sustainable development. Respecting all members of the club.

To achieve our vision, we will:

Provide sporting opportunities from grass roots.

Provide quality sporting facilities. Ensure the club is well run. Regularly seek views and respond to suggestions. Celebrate our success. Adopt and follow any necessary policies and procedures. Promote a family atmosphere. Provide help and support not only in football but were ever possible.

Equality and Disability

Disability:

We at the 22nd Old Boys welcome people with disabilities. At the club we believe in not only developing the player but developing the person. We believe that just because a person has a disability it should not affect his ability to participate in football and sport in general. We currently work successfully with people suffering from depression, schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, many other mental and physical impairments. As a club the 22nd feel no-one should be excluded from football because of a disability. If we feel that the disability is beyond the clubs means, then we would refer them to the following organisations depending on the individual’s particular needs.

F.A.S.A 02890 803040 Life line 0808 8088000 Disability action 02890 297880 Minding your head www.mindingyourhead.info/ Disability Sports N.I www.dsni.co.uk I.F.A www.irishfa.com

If none of the above organisations were suitable we would do our best to try and research a relevant organisation that would be of help.

Equality:

At the 22nd Old Boys we take great pride in our friendship and rivalries we have developed across the community over the years. We regularly play preseason friendlies and competitive games with teams such as St Matthews, Belfast Celtic, Tullymore Swifts, Ligoniel WMC but to name a few. We have very good relationships with these teams and would socialise with them after the game either in their club or at ours (Woodvale Cricket Club). We also welcome members from any race or religion and over the years we have had players from many different backgrounds such as: Turkish, Roman Catholic, Chinese, South African, Portuguese and Polish backgrounds. This is something we actively encourage at the club and take great pride in.
