CIDC – Activities Revathy (Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, B.S. Abdur Rahman University), Ms. Lovina Kinny (Assistant Editor, EPC World Media Group), Ms. Veena Kurup (Reporter, EPC World Media Group) etc. Attended by over 500 people, CIDC Vishwakarma Award is fast becoming an epitome for motivating individuals and organizations to raise their performance in their specific domain leading to significant contribution for the growth & development of the Indian Construction Industry. The objective of the awards are to recognize and honor the valuable contributions and work of Indian Construction Fraternity that has significantly enriched the construction domain and has helped bring about a change in our construction practices. 7th March is also the CIDC Annual Day and is celebrated every year with CIDC Vishwakarma Awards. This year a total of 33 CIDC Partners in Progress Trophies were also given away as a token of appreciation to honor organizations that have been CIDC’s partners in progress and who have displayed their utmost commitment and drive to create a vibrant work environment for the construction fraternity especially for achieving targets of “Mission Skilling India”. We applaud their spirit and support extended to CIDC for facilitating initiatives for growth and empowerment of our unsung heroes - the grass root construction workers. The main highlight of this award is the practice of awarding artisans who are the unsung heroes of Construction Industry, who work tirelessly to create the wonderful assets that benefit the entire nation. This year, totally 43 artisans and supervisors were awarded with commemorative trophy, Medal and Certificate in various trades. These artisans are working on diverse projects across the nation. The uniqueness of the CIDC Vishwakarma Awards is reflected in its recognition of contributions made by individuals such as grass root construction workers, artisans who often belong to marginalized sections and economically and socially weaker sections of the society. Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), the apex body set up by the Planning Commission & the Construction Industry recognizes the role of a national award for motivation and improved performance of Individual Workers, Artisans, Field Supervisors, Project Owners, Project Implementers and has conceived the CIDC Vishwakarma Awards as an award of Excellence. Training of students in distance learning mode: The Council is making efforts to initiate construction industry related distance learning courses for the national & international girl students to enhance their skills and employability in the construction infrastructure sector.
CCI Application Derivatives: CIDC Secretariat has started a major initiative to develop two Construction Cost Indices (CCI) Application Derivatives. First of these derivatives would help the evaluator in finding the impact of input cost variation on a real-time basis. Second would provide inputs for getting city specific construction cost variations on the same time datum. Construction Cost Variations due to recent input cost fluctuation is making execution of fixed price/cost projects a very difficult proposition and this may generate several disputes, claims and counter claims at one hand and stalled projects at other. CIDC has been approached by stakeholders for evolving solution for the same through the application of CCI on such cost variations on the basis of construction schedules. In addition, some investing stakeholders are looking at the CCI for comparative valuations at different cities on the same date line. Currently the CCI is evaluated with reference to a base-year and the CCI number is the relative rate of change. This variation could be different for each city and on any given date, relative cost variations would have a different value. For any investor, locating the most suitable investment city for a specific construction activity, would become very convenient if a city comparative index is available. CIDC has initiated development of this series in addition to regular CCI to assist the stakeholders. Base mechanisms for both the requirements have been developed and the pilot projects on real time basis have been initiated. The results of the projects would be the working methodologies for either of the requirements and would be helpful to the industry on the whole.
CIDC Partners in Progress Trophy: CIDC Partners in Progress Trophy was given to Assam University Silchar (AUS), Periyar Maniammai University (PMU), Mewar University (MU), Singhania University (SU) and Teerthanker Mahaveer University (TMU) as a token of appreciation on 17th CIDC Annual Day.
