Visa application for Russia

Before applying for a Russian visa you need one of the following document:

- an official invitation letter from an Institute (5 working days for getting a visa)

OR

- a telex number (3-5 working days for getting a visa)

OR

- an invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Federal Migration Service of Russia (3-5 working days for getting a visa)

Once the visa application request is complete, please contact the shuttle service (Nina Underhill 75411). A CERN driver should come to pick up the application.

è A CERN driver is going to the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Geneva (or to the Application Centre VHS (Genève), depending about the nationality of the applicant1) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the morning. He brings the passport back in 5 working days. However, there could be exceptions depending on the urgency of the application and nationality of the applicant.

è For the visa applications submitted to the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Geneva, the Annex D document should be included.

The visa is free except for the following nationalities: UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Georgia. The applications of the citizens with these nationalities should be sent to the Application Centre VHS. The visa is to be paid at the same time of the visa request deposit (See Annex B). Annex A: Guidance for filling the Application form 1. In the paragraph Country (select the country where you will be applying for your visa) choose Switzerland; 2. Questions «Purpose of visit, Visa category and type, Number of entries»: - in the Section «Purpose of visit» choose Science-culture; - in the next section choose Scientific-technical relations; - «Visa category» choose Humanitarian;

3. «Number of entries» are specified in your invitation; 4. In the paragraphs «Date of entry/exit into/from Russia» please enter the dates according to your Invitation; 5. In the paragraph «Surname, first name» – please enter your name according to machine-readable passport row (below). Letters with umlauts: ö,ä,ü, please enter like: ое, ае, ue. Ranks, religious titles, maiden names enter in paragraph «Other names used in the past» 6. Paragraphs «Directive (telex) number» or «Invitation number» you specify ONLY if you have an Invitation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Federal Migration Service of Russia. If you have an invitation from an institute in Russia, please, leave these paragraphs empty; 7. Paragraph «Have you ever visited Russia?». Number of previous visits to Russia and the last date of entry/exit you can find out with your Visa and custom’s stamps in the passport (If they are not available, for example, because of replacement of your passport, you must specify an approximate number of visits and time of entry/exit); 8. In the paragraph «Place of work or study» put CERN, not your home institute, if it is the case; 9. In the paragraph «Your permanent telephone» enter your existing private phone number which can be used to reach you at any moment if necessary; 10. Paragraph «Do you currently have relatives in Russia?». Here you enter information of your relatives (not relatives of your spouse), who have citizenship or residence in Russian Federation; 11. In Paragraph «Select the location where you will be applying for your visa» choose Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Geneva OR Application Centre VHS (Geneva) for the following nationalities, UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Georgia 12. Your home address should be in Geneva/Geneva region/France voisine (neighbour); 13. Every question must be answered; if a question does not apply, please type N/A; 14. When you filled in everything press the button «Save», then send your document to print with button «Print А4» and at the end of your session press the button «EXIT»

Annex B: Specific instructions for UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Georgia citizens

- 2 printed versions of the application form with a photo and real signature each are required

- The application should be submitted to the Application Centre VHS (Geneva)

- There is a visa fee (see Annex C). The money (cash) should be given to the CERN

driver at the same time of the visa request deposit (an invoice will be available once the visa application is submitted). If the applicant would like to pay with a credit card, he/she should go personally at the Application Centre VHS.

- To be able to get the passport back, the CERN driver will need a power of attorney

Annex C: Visa fee for UK, USA, Canada, Australia and Georgia citizens The amount to be requested to the applicant should be the Consulate Fee PLUS the VHS-Service FEE (i.e.: 240 CHF + 38 CHF)
