Book Fair Thank you for supporng our recent book fair. We received $2,800.00 from Scholasc to purchase new library books, teaching and classroom resources. A big thank you to all our wonderful helpers these events can not happen without you. If you missed out on the book fair you can sll order through the book clubs on the Scholasc website www.scholasc.co.nz. Book Care Sadly we have recently been nocing a lot of damage to our precious library books and school readers. Please ensure the books are kept away from food, water, pets and younger siblings. A lot of the books, especially junior readers, have been drawn in and this is hard to remove. Please ensure that the readers and library books are returned to school each week. If you noce damage to the books report this so that we can aend to this straight away. Excellence We celebrate excellence for our akonga in school newsletters, acknowledging their special gifts and talents. Excellence is the key to success. It is giving your best to whatever you do, setting realistic goals with careful planning and practice and developing a growth mindset–not giving up, its okay to make mistakes and thats the way we learn. Congratulations to all our akonga for their recent successes. A big congratulaons to Morgan Taituma-Hamilton who has been selected by the Wanganui Ballet & Dance Associaon (WBDA) for the Scholar's Audion with the NZ School of Dance, Wellington to be held in November. Rugby Rep Team: Well done to Nehemiah SuA who was selected for the under 11 team. Soccer Rep Teams: Congratulaons to Noah Jones, Blake Smith and Alan Elston who were selected for the under 11 team. Well done to Jaiden Toy who is in the under 10 boys team and Kate Macpherson and Zoe Wilkins who made the under 10 girls team. Interschool Netball & Soccer Well done to our team who recently competed in the interschool netball tournament. Samantha Howard, Maggie Cross, Zoe Bullock, Olivia Gibbons, Chelsea Jones, Amy Benadie, Abbie Deane, Sophia Brown, Chloe Bardell. Our team played very well against some tough compeon finishing 6th overall. A big thank you to Rochelle Howard for coaching and supporng our team at this event. A great day was had by all. Congratulaons to our team who took part in the interschool soccer tournament last week. Alan Elston, Mitch Karatau, Zak Papworth, Blake Smith, Noah Jones, Lachie Burroughs, Logan Symes, Zara Jackson, Ryan Henare, Jaiden Toy, Nathan Bevins, Finnian Sinclair. Our team showed great enthusiasm and commitment. The semi final came down to a draw and eventually was decided by a penalty shoot out. Our team finished 3rd equal overall. A huge thank you to Aaron Toy for enthusiascally encouraging and assisng the team. Thank you also to the parents that provided transport and support. It has been a particularly eventful one with our PTA quiz night, pie fundraiser and various school events – book week, cross country and interschool sports. There have also been numerous class trips where we have called on our school community for transport and supervision of our learners. We appreciate you taking the time to assist us. We are also grateful for the commitment our parents and staff have made to coach and manage our winter sports teams. A big thank you to Glen Howells, our sports co-ordinator, who works diligently to ensure our akonga remain physically active and have numerous opportunities to participate in the sporting arena. We really appreciate our community putting their hands up and helping out. Without your support we would not be able to provide our akonga with the range of experiences presented. Ka rawe! These serve as a visual reminder to children of the routine required for washing hands to stop the spread of germs. Please reinforce this routine at home. Thank you. Chess Team Our school chess team, comprising of Zoe Bullock, Zara Jackson, Alan Elston, Ryan Henare, Noah Jones, Flynn Whiaker, Travis OHara, Cienna Newland, Jaiden Toy, Jayden Ivory, Luke Heerdegen, Blake Smith and Logan Symes all played at the regional compeon held at Wanganui Intermediate. As a result our top five players were rewarded with invitaons to aend the Naonals being held in Hamilton on 28 October. Those players are Logan Symes, Noah Jones, Ryan Henare, Jaiden Toy and Alan Elston. Congratulaons! Our Wonderful School Librarians. Thank you so much to our librarians who assisted Lynee Brown our Resource Manager in the running of programmes and acvies throughout book fair week. They decorated the library, helped run the book fair and facilitated lunchme acvies. They are learning valuable leadership skills. A great learning experience and introducon to this parcular kind of quesoning and problem solving, with collaboraon being the key feature for success. The Year 5 team comprising of William Herd, Peter Adams, Aryan Colaabavala and Zak Papworth and Year 6 team of Noah Jones, Eddie Dewhirst, Ivan Adams and Logan Symes achieved 3rd place.
