A Virtual keyboard is a feature of a

computer program or a program in and of itself

that acts as a virtual extension of a controller,

often with fewer buttons than a keyboard wouldhave. In the world of desktop PCS, the windows XP

program, on-screen keyboard acts as a virtual

keyboard that can be operated with an actual

keyboard or a computer mouse. In stylus operated

personal data assistants it is common for the userto input text by tapping a virtual keyboard built

into the operating system of the PDA.

The Virtual Keyboard is a multipart

piece of kit. The main unit is a 90g box

measuring 9cm long by 3.4cm wide and

2.4cm deep. This projects a keyboard onto aflat surface using a laser, and senses key

presses via an infrared link. Tap a key on

the projected keyboard, and the box knows

what key you have tapped. Keystrokes aresent to your handheld via a cable that plugs

into its serial connector.

to our pocket in a very convenient way.
