Stand out from the others by saying and thinking this...
According to Ramit Sethi, “the real magic is in doing your homework... 80% of the work happens before you ever sit down for a meeting (for an interview).”

TO DO:
Look through the books that you read
Go through your inbox
and come up with a list of authors, speakers, online marketers that you admire and follow.
Yung buhay lang ha!
Now, do the Jomar Hilario Stage One Courtship for the first 3 in your list. Your mindset should be: How Can I Help His Business? Define the target or ideal customers of your prospective client. Google his ideal customers and what they like about your prospective client
This is personal relationship stuff, don't be stuffy just be friendly. Get to know them as if your kids are about to marry soon. Yes, I'm not kidding. Ask them directly, where can I find people LIKE YOU? Do they make more of you? (or ask it creatively in your mind lang)

What to Google? What to look for in FB, Twitter or LinkedIn Accounts?
What do you look for about your prospective client and his customers?
People who are members of his group/club/association
People in parallel industries
People from his School (c'mon you know what a school is right?)
People who are in his supply chain (suppliers, partners )
People in his village
People who are his competitors
What are they selling today?
You now have a more concrete idea on the background and interests of your prospective client and his customers, think how you can improve your prospective client’s marketing and his business.

Start marketing his business. You can do posters, videos, articles connecting with his clients and promoting his business.
Take screenshots of what you did for the day and email these to him daily.
Do this for 3 weeks.
Once you have shown proof or evidences of what you can do for your prospective client, offer to become a...

Yes! That’s what I said during the VA Seminar. Now, what I said is to VOLUNTEER. Think Like An Entrepreneur - Work For Free Entrepreneurs look for mentors whom they can work for free and learn the skills. You are a VA and you have to think like an entrepreneur. You are volunteering your services to mentors.

Ramit Sethi, an online marketer, who teaches people how to land their dream jobs has this to say about volunteer or free work:
“I’m a big fan of free work. It’s helped me get jobs and
opportunities I ordinarily never would have gotten.
The two keys are: First, working for a person or
organization that will open doors for you. This might
mean they provide a testimonial, or refer you to others,
or even hire you.
Second, you have to be clear that you don’t usually
work for free.
Here’s the phrase to use: “Well, my normal rate is
$20/hour, but I’m very interested in your project. Why
don’t we do this? I’ll waive my normal fee for 2 weeks,
and if I do an extraordinary job, we can talk about
going to my normal rate.”

Being a volunteer is your way of getting your foot in the door that would have stayed shut if you insisted on doing it the traditional way. How about you, Jomar? Di ba you hire A-Player VAs? Ikaw Jomar, how do you get exceptional virtual assistants to join your team?

I normally do not interview interns nor applicants.
But I may be willing to spend time with someone who will show me things they’ve found in my business that they can improve on and show me exactly how to do it.
As the business owner, you will immediately get my attention.
You’ve suddenly separated yourself from 99% of other applicants.

CASE STUDY: How To Become A Virtual Assistant To Tim Ferriss and Other Best-Selling Authors You know Tim Ferriss, right? Jomar, hindi ba ikaw yun? Ano ba! Ako yung Tim Ferriss of the Philippines pero hindi ako yun!
Sya lang naman yung author ng book na madalas na pinamimigay ko. He used to hire Filipino VAs. Pero hindi iyon ang case study natin. Our subject for this case study is Charlie Hoehn. Who is Charlie Hoehn? Well, ito lang naman ang kanyang credentials: He used to be a Virtual Intern for Seth Godin Editor of blog posts of Tim Ferriss He worked with several best selling authors (write/edit and market their books)

His Story
Charlie Hoehn was the perfect college student. He got good grades, and according to him the kind of student that school counselors tried to mold the other students into. So he thought after college, companies will welcome him with open arms to work for them. For Charlie Hoehn, he got turned down even from the company he interned with for three months. The only two companies that wanted to hire him were mediocre for his tastes. One was asking him to be a chain smoker and the other one turned out to be a pyramid scheme. Charlie was looking for a job in the time of recession. So the competition in job hunting was tough. Those who were experienced were willing to work for salaries almost half of what they usually received. This made the chances of fresh college graduates to get the job very slim. But then eight months after his dampening situation, he was able to work with a Hollywood producer, four New York Times best-selling authors and other entrepreneurs. Billion dollar companies and venture capitalists were now offering him jobs even without him sending out applications. Jomar, what did Charlie do? He implemented Jomar Hilario’s courtship system! Siempre he does not know it as such!

He approached the competition from a different mindset. He emailed the authors and he offered to help. Here is a part of his email to Tim Ferriss
Find his complete email here: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2011/03/10/12-lessons-learned-while-marketing-the-4-hour-body/#more-4904 Did you think Tim Ferriss will bother to answer this email? Remember he receives hundreds of emails per day!

Of course, Tim was intrigued. Tim answered by clarifying some points on his email. He also wanted to know more about the “internship” offer. Ikaw, would you turn down an offer to help in improving your business?
The response sounded very professional and very business-like.

At the very start, Charlie made his terms clear as an intern and the number of hours he was willing to extend. In the last paragraph, Charlie gave Tim a graceful exit just in case he will not get the gig. Tim got him as his intern. End of story? Not yet!!!
Did Charlie do well in his first assignment? Of course, not! You have to read the article to see the major booboos that he committed. Was he kicked out of the internship? No. Because he took responsibility and got everything fixed.
